So what do you guys think about the following?
A massive fleet warps in and from the opposite site another does the same. Everyone is getting to ready to fire at anyone who is red and all there is to be said is the go comman. Suddenly as the command as give an enemy titan spanning 15 km warps in the middle. Everyone that fired at the enemy ships accidentally hit the titan as the ships behind it maneuvour into position so that they can fire not at their own ally. Dazled by the enemy move they start to scramble to get into sight of the enemy ships....
Now speaking of this i cant believe that the story i made above is impossible. I even made a petition to check whethere or not such a feature existed , but to no avail.
PROPOSITION:
Implement a new game mechanice : COLLISION
WHAT WILL IT DO?
Whether its pretty self explanatory and for the hardcore players just think of the friendly fire and the edge that brings into the game . Oh i forgot to say that it should work with asteroids
-- The damage that hits the target thats between the two ships should receive lets say half of the real dmg instead of the full because there was no lock on it :)
Come on guys I am certain that we all want to see this ingame. Wouldnt be epic? |

This would require LoS mechanics, which would insanely slow down fleet flights and missions. I do no want TiDi in my mission system with only 40 people. |

already have this with AOE weapons and Ships and missiles
Some day I will have the internet and be able to play again. |

might be a simpler mechanic to allow a ship to have a high slot item that when targeting such an object a portion of the damage received by the ship is transferred to the targeted ship
The targeted ship is the one the ship being shot at is using as partial cover.
Larger the ship being used as cover the more damage being transferred to the ship.
So a hic could use a tackled Titan for cover
The damage transfer would also be effected by the size of the guns being shot. Smaller Guns will hit the correct target where as Titan Gun will most likely hit the cover Some day I will have the internet and be able to play again. |

AoE only cares about range, not line of sight.
Missiles also don't care about line of sight.
A line of sight calculation would require the server to calculate where every item on grid is in relation to the ship and its target, every time the guns fire. This is not done with anything right now. Thankfully. |

But entirely possible with an upgrade/rework of the physics engine.... which if you ask me is starting to show its age and an overhaul should be something for CCP to consider in next year's set of expansions. |

L.o.S. was discussed with a dev in a previous fanfest, and if memory serves me correctly, it would require a complete rework of the physics engine, and is not likely to happen.. |

The idea is good in paper... and it would certain add to realism... but this is EVE... and such a mechanic would be abused to hell and back. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

Unfortunately the technology hasn't been developed yet which would let the servers actually do LoS calculations in a decent size fight. This would kill all the hamsters instantly. Think of the hamsters people! |

sounds to me like CCP needs to start using high end GPUs to do the physics calcs instead of CPUs |
