What do people think about the idea of a light carrier?
Couple of ways it could go...It would be sub cap with no jump drive, about the size of a tier 3 battleship and either the armor and speed of a battleship or the armor and speed of a battlecruiser, not sure which would be best, tho im thinking bc.
It would have a big drone bay, no turret or missile bays but be able to launch 15 drones to a max range of about 200km (uber skills).
I realize that It would take drones along time to travel 200km which is good because it forces the player to think tactically about when he launches/returns his drones and how many he launches, as he will be defenseless if they are all far away.
I think it would also had a interesting tactical element to fleets to as the FC would have to decide how best to position and move them
should also cost about the same as a teir 1 bs perhaps?

They already have these. I'm certain you've seen them, in fact.
The Gallente make them, and they're called the Dominix and Navy Dominix.

the dominix can deploy 15 drones up to 200km? bloody hell

carries can only dreploy 10 drones under 200km why would a bs outperform a carrier in something like that?
carriers arent swarm drone launcher, they are heavy support ship and its main purpose is to support a fleet not to kill stuff... and also 5 dcu in a carrier is one of the worse failfit u can use high slots are for remote repair/transfer x3, smartbombs and neuts.

I didnt realize carriers could only launch 10 over 200k - i thought all their drones could warp about the system. I only said 15 cos I thought that was the theoretical maximum.
10 drones would do just as well, maybe with a bit of a heavy dmg bonus 10 to 20% per ship skill or something

1. you can only lock targets up to 250k. (no matter what ship class) so that means you can only control your fighters directly up to that range. 2. yes your fighter follow the target around in the system (which is good or bad (hello station sentries/smart bombs)), but then you dont really control them anymore.
and there is not much to merge. :)
we presented some numbers in the other thread that a dominix with drones does basically the same dps as 5 fighters.

Why would they force more drone boats into the game? Why do you want to make gunnery/missile skills even more useless? ___
