Dude I'm ****ed
This console exclusivity is bull****. The only reason I have a ps3 is to watch blurays because console gaming is watered down, sub-par, lower resolution, lower quality gaming. I understand that most ppl can't afford high performance comp hardware but punishing the select few who can is bull****. I also understand that it's business and console gaming is a gold mine and pc market is smaller but some ppl will not lower themselves to sub-par gaming.
So name the games that you are/were ****ed about not getting released or properly ported to pc.
My List: Dust 514 (come'on CCP ) Fable 2 and 3 Red Dead Redemption GTA4 (****ty and delayed port) God of War series Gears of War 2 and 3
Post your list

I have been able to get a PS1 emulator to work on the PC but i have had no real success with PS2 emulators, including the most popular one: Pcsx2. AFAIK its very hard to emulate graphics processors to software. I did have a PS2 just to play Gran Turismo 4 but I sold it when I was desperate for cash. I am waiting for GT5 full on PS3 which has been repeatedly delayed and currently due to be released Q4 this year.

The only games where a controller is better are racing and flying games, everything else the keyboard and mouse gives you better moblility, faster spins, and better aim. Anyone ever tried to play an rts with a controller , not fun.

If money is tight, I can appreciate that if you don't own a console and can't afford to buy one.
However, I really don't understand what the big deal is. 95% of games work better on consoles. Every PC game runs differently on every PC. They're ******ed. And it's a giant slippery slope where you end up paying for upgrades all the time just to play something new and all in all leads to a very inconsistant experience. The only thing PC gaming has over consoles in MY books - better user created content support (IE - fallout 3 for example and being able to create your own add-on modules for it).
I'll play on a console over a PC any day of the week, as long as it's not a ****ty console port that doesn't play properly. (On that note, when you do get a PC port of something and it's crappy, I guess I understand how that feels).
PS - I don't think console players would appreciate playing against PC people in Dust 514. I certainly wouldn't. Keep your aimbots and 99999999999 dpi mice away from my relaxing watered down MMO FPS experience.
Oh, and I almost forgot. I just made you read my signature. |

Hater excuse number...
1. I can't install games on my pc. I get all these errors and I'm not smart enough to perform work arounds and fixes that take 2 min.
2. I'm poor and can't afford the upgrades so everyone has to suffer.
3. I blame my lack of skills on aimbots and cheaters thats why I die so much.
4. Keyboard and mouse would own every contoller user in multiplayer so we won't let them play.

Or i'm oozing with money, and above ****ing around for 5 hours with my supreme brain power just because the 18 companies involved in making one game run on one piece of machinery can't figure out how to work together properly.
And would rather CCP spend time developing dust better than working on stuff for PC users who are an infinite development + tech support death trap.
And 4 is a valid excuse - even if I was playing devil's advocate.

The best selling computer of all time so far, for a particular model, is the Commodore C64 - 30 million units sold. I went to a C64 after a ZX Spectrum. It was great having pixel collision detection and sound.
My fave computer ever is still the Commodore Amiga.

Halo kids and a long list of dumb games = dumb
Consoles to play the good game - Overpriced? Maybe at launch. Getting a console now for a couple hundred bucks that works ALL the time without any problems = total steal for me.
Also, if you play a lot of single player games... i'm getting lots of "bang for my buck" by having an unlimited rental arrangement with the local video store. For a meager amount of cash per month, I can rent, play and beat things non-stop. I prefer owning though and have a large collection.. I just started employing this tactic to save money on linear games that really don't need to be owned.

We're talking gaming here, so the first PC that could do that was the IBM 5150 PC released in 1981 so

Thats more an indication that you dont know how to buy PC parts, tbf.
Rule a: never buy PC parts the day they come out, wait half a year, see price drop like a stone Rule b: never buy from overadvertised, overpriced sellers

Edited by: Vogue on 29/05/2010 22:33:02 When the first generation PS3 came out it cost Sony US$840.35 for the 60GB model to manufacture. Selling for $599. So Sony made a loss of $250 for each console sold.
With the 2nd generation model (That a lot of people including me think it looks like a naff 70's/80's console) has production costs reduced 70%, costing just $240 per unit to make.
Generally console makers run a loss when a shiny new version comes out. They claw the money back through games licensing and revisions to the consoles that have cheaper production costs.

Always a hot potato, but there's pros and cons for both, I have a high spec gaming PC and a PS3 and I love them both for different reasons, I might get better resolutions on my PC but that doesn't make them less enjoyable on the PS3, I have GTA IV for both formats, obviously I had the PS3 version long before the PC version but did the lower resolution spoil my enjoyment of it, well no it didn't actually, plus some games I just enjoy more on consoles, Fifa, Tiger Woods etc, especially when I have friends round you just cant beat a console, also being able to stream movies thru my PS3 is nice and the blu ray player is a bonus.
I can't see a downside to owning both if you have the money, also I've got a 60" hi def tv, you just cant beat that for a console even tho I can hook my pc up to the tv I never really bother using my pc on the tv just doesn't feel right.

The trouble with PC gaming is that the number of PC gamers is going down while the cost of developing a game is going up. To create a PC exclusive worthy of a high spec'ed gaming PC is going to cost big $$$, and appeal to a relatively small market. The chances of it breaking even, let alone making a profit, are pretty slim. And developers need to generate healthy profits to keep their shareholders happy, in order to keep their share price high and reduce the chances of them being bought by EA, who will make all their employees redundant. So besides MMOs, which work on a different business model, we will mostly content ourselves with console ports (of varying quality) and only the very occasional exclusive.

I just don't understand why there's always hostility towards console gamers. Sure, there's a higher number of children who just buy whatever they see because it's ACCESSIBLE to them. That's not a bad thing, the industry needs money to carry on.
That doesn't mean there aren't more refined gaming experiences besides what one would see in the midst of the "halo generation".
I'm not limited by money, intelligence or lack of taste. In my home, one may find Windows PCs, Apple computers, Wii, PS3, 360... among other things. If PC gaming was "better", why do I prefer consoles? Why do I own them?
On another angle, there may be some overlap on what games are available to consoles and gamers, but a lot of the best experiences are exclusive to one or another. Telling consoleers they're in the wrong for enjoying what comes with a console is like telling them their eating at the wrong restaurant. Let people eat where they damn well please. Besides, even if one was better, have you not ever had a craving for really nasty stuff you know is bad for you but tastes delicious? :)
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The idea of platforms is an outdated way of thinking. It takes us right back to the 80s. It's ancient, and it's time to move on. Why can't 3 people who all own the same game play together? Why do PS3, 360 and PC people all have to stick to their own crowds? It's really f***ing stupid. Though in cases where technical limitations prevent even balance in anything competitive, it'd obviously have to be approached differently.
If companies aren't profiting from system making anyway, why the hell haven't we gone to a model where everyone's on the same platform? I think consoles and PCs are opposite halves of the same whole. A standardized gaming platform where everyone has access to the same junk, same power, same graphics, etc where companies dumped and promoted and made money off games publishing would be nice. Perhaps a new approach to PCs, with an actual OS intended for gaming and sellable to a console crowd to be used the way a console or PC would be used and offer the same experience.
I don't care how many times PC-love'n, console hate'n forum trolls want to blame the user for all problems that exist in PC gaming. It's an inconsistant experience, riddled with constant problems and in the case of user error...most of that should have been idiot proof anyway. Strip all the crap away, send winblows to hell in a handbasket and build something from scratch that everyone can agree on.
Why wouldn't it work? Assuming said dream machine was perfect and flawless in every way with it's special OS and low physical footprint and awesomeness, who stands to profit? Then what would stop company 2 from wanting to try and one up them? Isn't this healthy for it all?
Maybe it's an open source thing, maybe it doesn't make money for anyone. Standardization and competition have been both rivals and friends in most industries.
Rant done. TLDR version: PCs = more features, more annoying to deal with, more costly. Less stable and less secure (using any OS that supports popular games that is). Consoles = plug it in and play. Less money. More limited.
Wish there was a better alternative to both choices.

Maybe a fun fact, but useless. They don't compare to your modular GPU/CPU/Northbridge/Southbridge etc layout. Anyway iirc the xbox has two gpu's (and a triple core cpu running at 3.4Ghz, and it's been around since 2005!).
