Looking at the skill level bonuses for Strategic Cruiser, it seems fairly useless for a PVE Tengu, should I only train this to minimum?
Also is it worth getting the subsystems to V? If so I'll prolly get all to IV and then get each one to V.
Thanks.

Anyone? Basically:
Should I bother getting Stategic Cruiser above level I if I am gonna use it mostly for PVE? Don't see me overheating much.
Subsystems skills to V?

There is basically no need for overheating in PVE, but sometimes it helps, if something unexpected happens. So yes, lvl1-3 should be enough.
As for the subsystems, yes it's worthy to get them all to level 5. The difference between lvl4 and lvl5 can be huge.

I'd even say the offensive one MUST be taken to V, in all cases.
The others... lvl5 in pvp, but in pve, lvl4 is enough.

Cheers, Offensive will be the first one to V then.

each subsystem does something.
more cpu, more pg, more damage, more tank etc etc. and they are lvl 1 skills o get them to lvl 5.
I have a HAM legion setup that wont work unless you have lvl 5 subsystem skills or +5% implants etc. rather lvl 5 skills than a bunch of expensive imps. Go ahead and clap. Mediocrity deserves applause. Why don't we go find Pandemic Legion and clap around them! |

The subsystem skills are rank 1. There is no reason why you should not have them at 5. It takes 5,6 days total?

Rank 1 level 5 skills take 3.5 days when you have a decent higher primary stat and 4.25 days with lesser primary for the other sub. I just looked at them now and realized that the offensive sub is perc/will while the other 3 are intel/will. I thought they were all intel/mem

I use a Tengu out in 0.0 for plexing and what not. Like everyone said its a Rank 1 skill. Get all the subsystem skills to 4 first, then take Offensive to 5. Engineering and Defensive are really the only other ones for PvE that are useful getting to 5.
Just remember this: If your Tengu is going to go pop...you know for sure it is, eject from it. If your ship goes pop with you inside 1 of your subsystem skills will lose 1 level. Its random which one but both times for me it was level 5 skills. Just some food for thought.

Hah, that's great to know, I'll definately do this.

Remember, should your ship happen to blow up for whatever reason, you're going to lose one rank of your highest trained skill randomly.
If your highest skill is offensive 5 with the other 4 skills at level 4 you're guaranteed to lose the lvl 5 skill.
Training all 5 subsystems to lvl 5 adds in a layer of "insurance" if you like. Losing lvl 5 propulsion is not as catastrophic to ship performance, as say engineering, defensive, or offensive subsystems. For my fitting/setup electronics and propulsion have no significant impact on my ships performance, so I have a 2 in 5 shot of getting something that wont even slow me down.
Just throwing that out there for you to consider.

Plain wrong.
You lose 1 lvl of a subsystem skill, not necessarily the highest trained. Tested on Sisi many times with my character, confirmed on TQ by many friends of mine.

This guy is right - I lost SP from a lower trained skill when my tengu asploded (even though I ejected).

Would you happen to have a CCP source backing this up?

I don't have any CCP source for this, but I can confirm that it happened to me. I was going to lose my Tengu so I ejected and didn't lose any ranks of my T3 skills when it blew up. (Maybe you hit self-destruct instead of eject?)

For pve, getting electronics to 5 is a good idea since the dissolution sequencer increases your targeting range (important if you're running an HML tengu) and increases your sensor strength (helps prevent NPC jamming, and is important for an unprobeable tengu if you ever have to venture into low-sec.) You can probably leave Defensive and and Propulsion at 4 but they're still nice to have at 5. Engineering is probably the only one I'd skimp on.

I definitely ejected. When I raised a petition, the GM said that ejecting isn't supposed to negate the skill loss, hence my hope that someone can provide a CCP source supporting what you're saying.

Edited by: rootimus maximus on 17/07/2010 07:55:58 Ah hah! I found a source. http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=629
In particular: "Ejecting or self-destructing does prevent the penalty, giving players an incentive to abandon ship from time to time."
Hopefully that will help anyone else if they need to petition it.
