Good thing we don't own any "virtual stuff", CCP does. We pay for the privilege to play with it.

Get your fracts right.
The police investigates the hoaxed websites, as stealing identities is a crime. Not the stealing of virtual furniture.

if not for the RL carryover to phishing (highly illegal and can get you in SERIOUS trouble.. easy to catch too, compared to other stuff, you actually leave a trail) this would not be investigated at all, as most EULA state you rent everything from the company and the only thing you actually own is the time you put into the game.

Well yes it's nothing to do with ingame items, that's just the articles spin. As said it's to do with account theft/stealing identities which is highly illegal.
I wish the standard of reporting was better though, so many articles twist the news so badly people get the wrong impression entirely.

A Korean steals your account.
You care. Your game provider cares. The law cares.
Korea does not.
Aaaaaaand we're done here.

Except you pay real cash for the items in Habbo Hotel, in EVE you don't.

*Looks at his bank statement*
Yep, that's REALLY $15 leaving my account every month and going to CCP. If I didn't pay that, I wouldn't have access to any of the items available in game.
And PLEX doesn't count. Someone, somewhere, paid the money to acquire the PLEX to sell in the first place. Even if you play for "free" using ISK bought PLEX, money still changed hands at one point.

RTFM, actually, RTFEULA. As in, Read The ****ing End User License Agreement. You pay for access to the Server. That is all that is granted to you. Your account, your characters, your stuff, your virtual ass, all belong to CCP.

Don't believe I ever claimed ownership, only paid for access. With real money. Like Habbo. Unless they "give" you the stuff you purchase in game, you are only leasing, not owning.
