Through the years of EVE and the events in New Eden, there have been massive new activities for the players. With the new planetary management system, players can colonize planets and gather the resources. But what about a countermeasure. Other than the Dust 514 console game that allows mercs to take over other players planets. What about a planet destroyer. Some massive Titan like weapon of incredible power that would destroy entire planets. A superweapon that would take months of skill training and the wealth of empires to build. And when a planet is destroyed, within a week in EVE it would respawn with new resources.

That's far beyond the power level of anything else in this game, and it certainly doesn't fit flavor-wise. How would you explain the reappearance of an entire planet?
More likely, they would give us opportunities to attack other people's command centers directly. I'm not sure even that would happen though, since that would kind of negate the usefulness of Dust 514.

Why waste money and other resources on a weapon with such a limited use. It's far easier to just park a couple of dozen dreads in orbit and blast the place back to the stone age. The kinetic energy of a a dread round weighting a couple of tons traveling at a couple of thousand meters per second is roughly the equivalent of 1 kiloton old earth TNT. So a single dread that uses ammunition without a payload could level every civilian installation in a matter of minutes. Now image what a few dozen dreads using high yield ammunition could do to a planet with a prolonged bombardment. And if you really don't wont the planet there is always the option to turn it into a nuclear wasteland with a few thousand nuclear missels.

Respawning planets?
I bet you would like respawing ships too, and powerups in space... you fly into a quad damage, or an invinsibility field.
Thankfully there is no one like you in CCP. Or we would just have another midless game that gives up any semblance of realism (I know there are flaws in the physics etc) in exchange that players can fly around in death stars.

Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Teach him to blow up planets, and he'll blow up planets.

I guess it would be a massive effort and overpowered. It was just a thought of mine i wanted to get out there.

I fail to see the connection your post has to the topic of this forum, rather than Features & Ideas, or perhaps General Discussion.

Gates and stations should be destroyable as well. The respawn idea is bad, though. People will learn to live without these things once they are gone!

Well, here's a question that's a little more location-relevant.. I think.
I wonder if there are Atmospheric Deprivation Weapons in EVE, ala the ones launched at Kharak in Homeworld. That is, ADW's being an orbital bombardment payload designed to ignite a planet's atmosphere.

Edited by: Mithfindel on 14/06/2010 08:03:15 Something like this? http://www.eveonline.com/news.asp?a=single&nid=1072&tid=5:
Quote: A second on-site report from the Servant Sisters of EVE a few hours later includes a preliminary estimate of 88.7% extinction of surface life forms. "Detailed measurements are almost impossible to carry out for the moment," said Dailla Semar, SoE spokeperson at their Sanctuary in Pure Blind, "but it seems to be clear that the explosion, whatever the source, was of planetary magnitude. We are facing almost full polar cap meltdown, and the planet is enshrouded in a planet-wide electrical storm making visual contact with the surface impossible at this time."
That is generally believed to be an atmospheric activation of a Judgement device (Amarr doomsday, old AoE version). As a note, transforming a temperate planet into a barren one (or in this case, a storm planet) is a whole lot easier that blowing a planet up.
