I think they are all collectively working together to come up with a foolproof plan that Cosmo will shoot down about 30 seconds after they post it.

Probably because it's been shut down here so tight at the moment that even legit offerings have a hard time slipping through is my guess.
There have been numerous attempts to get funding over the last months but most have been turned/trolled down depending on how you look at it and in those could well be scam attempts. However there are also more and more posts coming in that speak concerns over the 'MD crowd' being too harsh and trollish on new offerings.
Speaking for myself i know i am feeling less and less attracted to even make comments on those offerings that seem scamtastic from the start and generally feel i should only make comments on those i will or want to invest in.

Edited by: RAW23 on 03/06/2010 16:34:52 It's not just scams; there have been very few new offerings in general. Actually, thinking about it there have been quite a few scam offerings but without the legitimate ones to hide behind they have been shot down very quickly and efficiently (see Setrak's recent breakdowns). But there's not much sport in it when the prey leaps into the centre of your crosshairs and then saunters very slowly towards you with his hands in his pockets.

Since 2006 at least, summers are typically a quiet period in terms of offerings when compared to fall/winter.
I believe someone actually produced a graph of this at some point.

With offers paying 3% tops, who's going to be enticed risking his money?
MD got monopolized by a small group of "supermegaextrawealthy-and-trusty-and-2003-always-perfect-forever-solvent-and-Midas-touch" investees.
They will setup super low (investor) profit investments lasting many months or years sucking lots of MD capital.
The non scammer newcomers see these 3% and also propose stupidly low reward investment. Result: money stagnates, why risk it when the same interest can be safely achieved by flipping 10 orders a month? - Auditing & consulting

While true, that 3% is better than sitting in your wallet earning 0% if you don't have the time or resources to utilitize it.
Why would I risk 1 billion on 8% with some unknown when I can get 3% guaranteed? I would love to see more competitive rate offers both from new and established people needing capital as I'm starting to hit the point where I can't fully utilize my ISK.
Another thing to consider is that Bobby and Cosmo have many billions in private loans. How many of those people might have come to MD looking for funding? Damn MD elites have drained MD dry of offers

Lending money to unproven strangers should be rare; it should be the exceptional case warranted by the exceptional effort or talent demonstrated by the funds-seeker. I always find it funny how mad some people get when their "i can haz spacebux?" posts get shot down.

I get deja-vu every time I read this forum. This exact thread has occurred god knows how many times over the years.
My predictions:
People get desperate for any investment opportunity, start throwing money around without doing their homework
People get scammed.
Oh noes! For a few months, MD is on lockdown and everything is scrutinized to levels that would make a meth-addicted tinfoil hat wearing black helicopter fearing 9/11 conspiracy theorist proud. This lasts a while and then...

Yup. Also just time of year, as mentioned. Even the pastiest of basement-dwellers feels the pull of Spring-time, as fair weather instills the hope of new chances and opportunities. Then social deficiencies and sexual rejection drive them into the shadows once more, and they are enveloped by the sweet darkness of their 18 accounts and the human havoc they can wreak upon the weak and unsuspecting casual gamer.

I am personally not interested in scamming and have no history of scamming, but agree strongly that the atmosphere is very harsh and unreceptive to new offerings. In particular, lowsec/nullsec offerings are practically forbidden here when it seems like they would fill the otherwise empty niche of legitimate high risk / high return investments.

Wow, the issue isn't so much that there are necesarily scam offerings. But that they see one scam and consider it the end all be all of a character. Or that a character is unknown is a scammer. That hasn't posted in months a scammer. That was sold a scammer.
Setrak's breakdown was factually erroneous as I own only one of the linked characters.

No one has monopoly over investments , there is still a huge pile of cash waiting to be invested. This is the reason why those 3% offers even get filled because a lack of good high return offers. It is the fault of newcomers to think they can offer such a low return NOT from the investors or people who have gone through the process of starting with a high return and slowly going down when their reputation goes up.
I still have a reasonable sum in my pocket waiting for a good investment but good offers just are rare these days.Raw23 only came to MD half a year ago looking for investments and did get it even if he was a newcomer , his offers now fill with the blink of an eye.I have invested in him and a lot of others both on MD and ingame over the last half year that where newcomers. The difference is they brought their plans and placed them in a way that i felt they would be worth the risk.Something only grozen has done for me recently of the newcomers looking for a loan.
Same goes for the comment on low-sec and 0.0 offers.People that defend investing in this and say the bigger investors should not be so narrow minded and take the risk also are those that when asked why they don't invest say :'Yeah well i don't invest in bond/ipo.End of story there.

Have you invested in any offerings? Have you raised an offering? I ask because my own views did change once I'd experienced both - and carried out audits.
You're also generalising. Some offerings are subjected to unwarranted harshness. Many are simply subjected to valid questioning and criticism.
Quote: In particular, lowsec/nullsec offerings are practically forbidden here when it seems like they would fill the otherwise empty niche of legitimate high risk / high return investments.
You have a point about niche high returns. However, the track record of that type of offering is abysmal. Ironically, two offerings that did succeed were raised by Goons.
Only one WH offering has been offered. It succeeded in raising finance - and promptly turned out to be a scam.

True however kal something something only raised a verry small part of that on Md and most funds came from within the alliance. However they indeed where a succes. The other person you are refering to i assume is sophie.I do not know a lot about her offer , only read she had collateral backing it up for X amount though but don't take my word on that.
People tend to forget that investors decide the returns and risks and no one else. The 3% untouchable rep people VV speaks of only have succes because investors decide they are worth it not because they themselves feel they are worth it.If you feel the rules are not set out right then invest , the only way to change things.

I raised 1.3 billion isk on this board.
Granted, I had already raised 16.75 Billion from other Goons, but still, not a small sum considering moon mining is impossible to secure.
Sohpie has a manufacturing offering that had it's BPOs held by Chribba as collateral. If memory serves me it was 100% collateralized.

That's what i meant kalrand. As stated your offer WAS a succes so that point stands but the sum raised was rather small and the security sophie gave was making it allmost zero risk.Keep in mind that those seeking for 0.0 or low-sec investments if history serves me right allmost allways went for a higher loan then what you got from MD yourself and with no collateral.
Small edit to show the point:IF an unknown came in here or to me asking for 10 billion fund for a 0.0 operation and gave me 110% collateral offering a 4% return i'd invest in that person rather then someone who has run a few small bonds looking for empire funding of 5 billion at a rate of 8%.
I have stated before to you personally on the SCC chann a long time ago that i would have invested in your offers at the time IF you would not have been a part of goonswarm. As i stated in another topic usually it is not only the offer or the person making that offer or even if it is 0.0/low-sec/empire that makes the difference to invest or not to , it is a combination.

Most people looking for a 0.0 loan are trying to scam and didn't spend the time lurking around to even realize why it sounds dumb.
0.0 sounds like you should be able to get away with saying "well, its op-sec, so I can't tell you." and "this is a high risk, high return loan".
Personally, I wouldn't invest at 6% or 4% collateralized, since I tend to get a much higher rate of return, and I'm also chronically in debt to people.
PI saved me billions on my next venture (I made all the labs/arrays I needed for a fraction of what it should cost). I almost had to put out a new bond.
