Edited by: Culmen on 05/06/2010 00:54:54 The moment I saw the words Square Enix I lost all hope for it being a good game. And I'm one of those who actually enjoyed JRPGs up until a couple of years ago. And enjoyed Ghost In The Shell + Stand Alone Complex 1/2.
Really look at what they did to Supreme Commander II. The rest of the trailer was a waste of time, this game is going to suck. Their r*ping good franchises like EA at their nadir. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Deus Ex is one of those games I still install and run through every now and then.
This trailer looks cool, but it just doesn't feel like Deus Ex to me. *shrug* I might pick it up when it comes out, if it still looks any good.

Truth. The RPG elements will likely amount to upgrading the damage on your weapon. Hacking and lockpicking will involve quicktime events and they'll add regenerating health.
This game is going to suck and I will pretend it doesn't exist from here on out.

The only thing Square Enix is doing is the movie sequences and publishing the game, development is done by Eidos Montreal.
Originally by: Culmen The trailer makes the game look like a knock off of Prototype, with mechanical limbs rather then biology.
Err, biology? It's been a long time, but as far as I recall, the augmentations in the first game focused on nanotechnology, not biology. While I do agree they seem to have went overboard with mechanical limbs, the trailer does also show other types of augmentations.

He was comparing it to Prototype, hence the Biology comment. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

That makes sense, I just need sleep. The fact that I never played Prototype didn't help either.

You missed a great game. Prototype was awesome. The intro sequence says it all. It had the feel of a conspiracy thriller, while you were running around New York eating people.
That's right YOU eat people to gain their appearances and memories. If anything the main character in the intro sequence is LESS powerful then the one in game, once you've got enough XP. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

That does look interesting, I'll try it out. Thanks.

Tbh, I miss that cyberpunk feel in the trailer.
And they should have kept the original score.

If it follows the trend in game design it will be:
looking good having passable, console friendly, controls and interface looking good offering halfway immersive gameplay looking good mostly bug free after about two months post-release looking good lacking width and depth in the story looking good far too short with little replay value but it will look good --------

That looks like a fantastic game. Lots of people are likely to hate it if it doesn't keep perfectly to the spirit of the original Deus Ex, but I will certainly be buying it. As for the mechanical augmentations, I think this is supposed to be a prequel to the other two games, so mechanical augs make sense; the protagonist here is the same as Anna and Gunther who were moaning about becoming obsolete at the start of the original game. ____________________

At the moment I don't know what to think. DX3 will have a **** load of third person in it. Thats bad for me because I don't like TP. Auto health regen is also in.
The community manager on the eidos forum has told us that we will be able to play the game all the way through in first person - so like I said, I don't know what to think right now.
If you happen to be a fan of the Thief games, the same studio making DX3 is also making Thief 4.

Speaking of, I'm secretly hoping there will be a section where you get to fight alongside/against young versions of those two. ____________________

Not keen on third person myself, but there are some games that really only work with TP.
I'll be getting this anyway, lets hope the game play is not too shallow.

I'm going to be honest, I have had Deus Ex on my steam list like for AGES and only once tried to play it, but barely lasted more than 5 minutes do it looking so awful , even VTM:Bloodlines, being as old looked better.
So I ask, is it really that good? It's one of those games where you have to bypass the scenery and "feel" the background to enjoy it?
Might redownload and try it again ---

Dude, once you play Deus Ex, you will always compare every other FPS/stealthy game to Deus Ex. I've never played a game whose story was so involved and so complex that it had me literally riveted. It's so good that I just recently re-installed it and began playing it all over again. When I'm done with it, I'll then re-install part 2 and play IT all over again.
It's that good. It's quite possibly the only game on the planet that's so good that you don't even care about the graphics.

To add to this, it is overflowing with cyberpunk and sci-fi references, and the whole game has such an awesome feeling to it.
Hell, the ending has Khalil Gibran quotes!
(Though for me, the high point of stealth gamepay will always be Thief 2)

If this one is going to be like the original Deus Ex, I'm most likely buying it on or shortly after release date.

People, people. Settle down. It would help if you all started holding up Deus Ex 2 as the standard to be surpassed, then we could enjoy some excited anticipation at least. Though if it's worse than dx2 all hope is lost.
What I want to know is why, at the end of the trailer, Adam punches through a wall just to break the neck of some guard who isn't in any way critical or in his way :( -omg-

I loved the first Deus Ex, even saved the chopper pilot...
Chopper pilot: omg why did you just kill that man? Me: Well I dunno, he looked kinda shifty!
...and he was shifty
The second Deus Ex, to me, didn't appeal so I've not touched it. I hope the third one is more towards the original

So you are saying that we should lower our expectations to what suits the industry, and accept that it is incapable of making great games, by and large?
