I am just wondering but is CCP ever going to open EvE up so that we the public could host our own server? I only ask because I believe there are many others out there like me that get burned out and leave EvE because of the number of players, Corps, Alliances that control much if not all 0.0 space. I would like to be able to host a server similar to Freelancer.
Please leave your feedback and let me know your thoughts.

This'd be the game's final death knell. 'Only way it'd ever, Ever happen is if EVE were basically dead in the water and beyond hope of ever being fixed or remade. The whole franchise would basically have to be something no company would ever want to be associated with, ever.

My friend, EVE is not hosted on a single machine. EVE is run on a super computer network. Your machine could host 2 nodes if it was top of the line, no more.

Hmm, I think it is possible to run the entire eve universe off a single machine if it had enough ram and cores. I know the test server is far smaller than the tq cluster of machines but due to the limited amount of cores to use as nodes it has issues with lag when several hundred players are all on. Of course this wouldn't be an issue for the op as he would be the only person on it at any given time. I guess its down to how many systems can be fit into a single node.

It would properly be possible to run a private EVE server in the same way people run private wow servers. The wow private servers was created by reverse engineering the game client and the client-server communication, to make software that emulate the retail servers.
Trying to recreate WOWEmu for EVE is properly not easy, but i believe it's possible, but what would be the point?

WOW=Noting compared to CCP's network, they have single servers for single worlds, lot bigger ball game when trying to get 50k of peeps interacting in 1 world
P.S if this could be done, dont u think some1 woulda tryed allready?

Yeah, I have this spare supercomputer sitting there in my basement doing *nothing* when I could host a EVE server on it. Might even push the bandwidth of my commercially sized internet backbone I normally use for my everyday browsing.
Do it CCP! --------

Our Terms of Service actually covers this:
14 & 15
You may not create, provide or use any server emulator or other site where EVE Online may be played. You may not post or distribute emulators, software tools or utilities related to EVE Online without the express written permission of CCP.
You may not attempt to play EVE Online on any server that is not controlled or authorized by CCP

Use the testserver if you want to be alone. And stop playing a MMO.

The server-side architecture of EVE is properly much more complex then wow, but that does not matter, the emulator is basiclly nothing more then the communications protocol, server-side logic and database. Private server only mimic the real server, they are not designed to support as many clients as the retail servers.

How do you know that it has not been tryed before?, if it was impossible why would CCP include paragraphs in the TOS on this matter?

Dexington this is actually standard in many Terms of Service for MMOs. I don't think there's an MMO out there that doesn't have a clause like this somewhere.

They know it has been tried before. Some years ago, there was even a sourceforge project based on a leaked copy, or something along those lines. I vaguely remember a few people "developing" in on their own and getting petitioned for it by half the galaxy. Other stuff happened as well, but it's long, long ago. Those clauses were not in the TOS at the time, they got added for good reason.

I think the real interesting aspect of EVE is the interaction between players. If you take away the ability to interact across the eve universe, you'll miss the very aspect of EVE that makes it great.

Well the OP wants to conquer 0.0 on his own, then start moon mining like crazy and sell the stuff to... Yeah, pretty pointless a mini EVE not connected to the big whole. If you desire that you don't get what EVE is about.
To the OP nobody stops you from joining one of those "players, Corps, Alliances that control much if not all 0.0". space

I think with some hexacore servers with 16/32gb memory running virtual servers it could be done, running the whole EVE world. But it still couldnt support many players... maybe up to 300 but thats about it.. ----------------------------------------------- EVE Gate:
