Its a long standing tradition for the alliance tournament announcers to totally fail at their jobs then go emo and do an even worse job when everyone complains.
Simple solution that made watching the feed tolerable: Mute.

They put their name forward, and CCP flew them to Iceland. That's pretty much it as far as I am aware.
I don't agree with some of the commentators comments etc, and corpmates have told me if I don't like the way they commentate, I should put my name forward next year...but then, when I get put in front of a camera/microphone I am a bundle of nerves...perhaps some of the commentators are the same?

And yet these same people have no issues yukking it up like pros at fanfest or on vent and be perfectly comprehensible and knowledgable about whatever it is they are yakking about. They fail because they do it on purpose. Verone knows better but he still plays the rube every single time he gets in the spotlight. Just hit mute and enjoy the tournament.

If you dont know the answer, just say so.
Maybe CCP should require demo tapes when applying.

Sorry I forget that you are still a newb around here. It's called the 'good ole boys' club. Not that I care but its pretty obvious to the rest of the game even if it is tolerated due to its irrelevance to anything that matters.

Here's my experience anyways...
I don't have any trouble getting on Vent/Teamspeak and talking to people I know, but thinking about public speaking (like say, announcing the AT) scares the living daylights out of me for some reason. I thought about becoming a radio DJ when I was growing up, even went with a friend of mine that had a show on community radio. I had a movie review for Executive Decision all planned out, and when it came my turn to talk on the air I froze up, and stuttered and stammered my way through the piece horribly.
Not everyone's cut out to be an announcer, for me it comes down to nerves, but I never really knew til I gave it a try.

That's too bad. It would be better to hae people that can think on their feet and speak professionally. At least know the names of the ship types.

Well one would think that ccp could put together a selection process to find some competant non lulzy commentators for the tournament since it has the potential to draw in lots of outsiders into the game. But for some reason they just roll with the same ole elementary school shennanigans that make outsiders go 'wtf is with these morons? I don't even know about the game and it still sounds like some eighth graders playing at being an announcer'.

At least they are not annoying as the play-by-play mexican in Univision's broadcast of USA vs England

I have to agree with this, I understand that talking sense under pressure (both from being "on air" as trying to figure out what's happening) can be problematic and that the commentators do NOT see the nice, cleaned up vid stream we see, still; Brianna is distracting (in a negative way) from the tourney.

Edited by: Mr Kidd on 13/06/2010 09:31:00 My only complaint is the lack of preparation from the announcers. If they prepared more they would do better. Perhaps that's not their fault. *shrugs* But, they should get a list of ships on each team, how those ships are fitted and know the names of the pilots for each ship. Instead of referring to the ships they could refer to the pilot. So instead of saying "The Dominix over there....." they could say "Lord Baal of team 'Creed' in his Dominix....". This is after all a match between teams and players, not "those ships over there". And the guessing as to what's fitted is just unforgivable. "Is it a blaster, no it's a rail....oh wait, I think it's an autocannon...." wtf?
Can we get Duncan Fisher to announce? :)

Put it this way: even you are over-qualified.

Can building companies construct half-broken houses and say you have no reason to complain because you can't do better? Can IT specialists give you a program that does nothing properly or barely works at all and say you have no reason to complain because you can't do better?
It's complete bull****, people have the right to expect quality.

Wait you mean someone actively keeps them from opening a FREE PUBLIC WEBSITE during their commentating? I knew CCP were are rude bunch of bullies but that really goes too far
