Edited by: Samantha Coleman on 14/06/2010 17:12:05 The problem started shortly after the last Tyranis patch. I play the game as I normally do and all of a sudden my client crashes and I am staring at my desktop. I donÆt know if I can even call it a ôcrashö - it doesnÆt show any error messages û it simply spits me out to desktop. It happens very fast too û just a split second and the game client is gone û hitting the ôQuitö button in-game would take more time to bring me back to desktop. Because of the ôcleanö crash, I can just start the client again immediately and sometimes I am able to log back before my ship warps off grid.
Anyway, it appears to be random û I could be docked at a station or in space. The time interval seems random too û it could crash after 20 min, after 2 hours, or not crash at all. It doesnÆt happen very often û maybe 4 or 5 times for the past week ( and I play almost every day ) û but itÆs getting annoying.
I checked the event viewer and I did manage to find some sort of error messages there ( each message is generated at a time when a client crash occurred ). They look like this:
The application, D:\Games\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe, generated an application error The error occurred on 06/14/2010 @ 02:41:05.937 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 004B7E85 (python25!slp_cstack_save)
The application, D:\Games\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe, generated an application error The error occurred on 06/14/2010 @ 00:01:27.500 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 05CF0AC3 (_trinity!TriVector__ExposeToBlue)
The application, D:\Games\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe, generated an application error The error occurred on 06/12/2010 @ 20:46:31.953 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 06FC5F07 (ccpBrowserHost)
My client is freshly installed and so is my operating system û I bought a new hard-disk and had to reinstall everything about a week ago. Details about my system: CPU û DualCore Intel Pentium E2160, 2.7 GHz Graphic card û NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS DirectX version û 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c) OS û Windows XP Professional, SP3
I just wanted to ask if anyone has encountered this problem before and if you have a solution for it? I browsed around the forum for a while before I created this thread, but even though I found a couple of posters who described a problem similar to mine, there was no information on what causes it or how to fix it. I am really hoping to avoid the whole ôSubmit a Bug Reportö procedure, so any help will be appreciated!
P.S. And no, clearing the cache folder didnÆt fix the problem. However, when I installed the new client I did copy some files from my old ôSettingsö folder û the files which contain my client configuration, overview settings and my bookmarks.

Yes, this sometimes happened to me too. Sometimes with crash report sended to microsoft :), but not to CCP :(.
Onlyyest solution is to hopr that CCP will fix it in later patchech, and after dominion is it relative normal that crashes happen few days after new expansion. I have no problems after first day apocrypha. ------------------------------------------------

Edited by: Doraxis Blie on 15/06/2010 01:09:36 Same issue here, started about 10 days ago. Random times, random issues... have seen more reports involving python25.dll than others. Very maddening when I am in combat.....
edit: I have tried to reinstall the game, but everytime I download this huge game, I have corrupted files in it and install aborts. Really sucks downloading for 2 1/2 hours for nothing.... 3 times.

I am not sure that reinstalling will solve the problem. My client installation is like "brand new" less than 10 days old. |

Same here...really stinks when you jump into low sec and it crashes only to finally be able to log in and find out you've been podded.
Petitioned it, but I doubt I'll get anywhere.

Come on CCP... At least acknowledge your paying customers actually exist!!! Lie to me... say you are working on this... something. I know not all of you are consumed with that silly tournament. I have 4 accounts that I wont pay for if I can't play the game.

Don't wait up, they are not gonna do anything about it - not now anyway. I guess i should start the "Submit a Bug Report" process afterall . If i have any progress i will post here. |

I'll assume (in their defense) their are multiple things causing these issues. I say that because i have had multiple issues.
I've had the exe error, crash to desktop no error, restart, lockup and blue screen.
After I scrubbed my nvidea drivers and re-installed current versions from nvidea I got rid of the ctd and the exe error. still lockups, reboots and blue screens. I can't stay logged in more then a couple hours without it crapping out even afk in station.
The issue only happens with Eve. I've had multiple games up for days at a time, stress tested video, cpu, ram, futurmarked the system and memchecked for extended times nothing else causes these issues. So it's not a component stress or heat thing it's something the client is doing that causes the system to freak out. But obviously since it is random even while performing the same lack of actions it's probably a combination of things that have to line up to trigger the break. I say this since scrubbing my video, chipset and network drivers fixed part of my issue.
I can't do the "bug submit" issue since I have no option to save the log file after rebooting. If they were to modify their server log checker program to write a revolving log file to disk to actually get usable info from these types of crashes then we might be able to start submitting useful error reports.

Edited by: Samantha Coleman on 21/06/2010 09:07:00 Naturally, now that i actually try to reproduce the crash, it won't happen! I run logserver every time i play, i get my client to generate crashdump, but crash just won't occur. CCP, your client is so ****ed up, you can't even get it to crash when you want it to!
I haven't played that much lately, maybe that's why the crash doesn't occur. I will keep trying and i will post any useful info here.
But hey, even though i can't reproduce the old crash i got a new videocard issue! I have an nVidia GeForce 7900 GS, when i update with the latest drivers (257.21) and i run EVE my screen turns into a pile of jibberish (lines running diagonally across the screen) every 5 minutes - you can't see actual pictures from the game. If I revert back to my old drivers (178.24), that fixes the issue, but i get this strange flickering and white flashes on my screen at random moments - very irritating. So as you can see - not a dull moment with EVE Lot's of fun every day! |

Agreed, the pat answer to everything is "turn off sound." Now I have to sit at the darn game for hours until I get the crash again. I sent you the error ccp and my setup. Be a little less lazy and do some work! And by the way, Nvidia lists your game as a 2 out of 5 in terms of compatibility. Why would you make a game with such crappy comparibility issues. I'll prolly cancel my accounts until this is fixed. And that is four accounts. But what the heck do you guys care, My client worked just fine until the patch and now it is shet.
Can't someone help me!

Sound is not the issue, I run 1-6 clients at a time and 99% of the time all clients have the sound disabled, I get random clients crash while all the rest are fine. Personally I think there is a memory issue, it leaks or somethinbg under certain situations. I wish they would fix it. |

I finally managed to reproduce the crash that I described in my first post. It happened while I was jumping through a gate. I am beginning to think that the in-game web-browser is one of the things that causes it. I had it running, although minimized, when this crash occurred and I can remember that I had it open during some of the previous crashes as well.
Anyway, I gathered all the info that I had û logserver log, crashdump file û and I submitted a bug report with a detailed description of the problem. Guess I just have to wait now.
I will post here if I get any updates from CCP about the bug report.

Edited by: Samantha Coleman on 04/07/2010 12:57:47 An update on my situation. I submitted a bug report about this issue. CCP replied very fast - the very same day. The advice they gave me was the standard "update your drivers".
I guess that was in order, as my drivers were indeed a couple of years old. There is a reason for that though - i use old drivers because they WORK. I had some nasty problems updating my video card driver, as the nVidia 7900 doesn't get along with new drivers - whenever you try to play a game or change your resolution you get a screen glitch and you can't see ****. Anyway, after a few hours i managed to fix that (btw if anyone has a similar problem with the nVidia 7900, just let me know - i have a solution for you) and i updated my video and audio drivers to the latest versions available.
I played without problems for about a week, then yesterday the crash happened again. I was undocking from a station and boom - crash to desktop. No error messages shown, but when i checked the event viewer i discovered this:
Source: DrWatson Event ID: 4097
The application, D:\Games\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe, generated an application error The error occurred on 07/03/2010 @ 23:56:58.531 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 025EB547 (d3dx9_41!D3DXCreateEffect)
I submitted another bug report with the new information that i have gathered. Let's see what they say this time.
The rest of you, who are having the same problem - try updating your audio and video drivers. Maybe it will work for you.

Edited by: Samantha Coleman on 14/07/2010 11:42:49 Edited by: Samantha Coleman on 14/07/2010 11:41:38 Well, I submitted my second bug report on this problem about 10 days ago û on the 4th of July. Again, I included all the information that CCP requests for a valid bug report û logserver file, crashdump, dxdiag. I got the same reply as last time û ôupdate your driversö (even though I specifically mentioned in the description, that all my drivers have been updated as instructed in my previous bug report). So I tell them again, that my drivers are up to date, and I havenÆt heard anything from CCP since then û that was over a week ago.
In the meantime, my client keeps crashing to desktop at random intervals. I still havenÆt lost a ship because of that, but I wonder how long my luck will hold. The last time my client crashed was when I was about to jump into a gate-camp. If the crash had happened 15 sec later I would have been dead. This time I couldnÆt find any error messages at all û not even in the Event Viewer.
I edited my bug report again today, asking CCP to look further into the problem. Tbh, these random crashes, together with the complete disaster that 0.0 warfare has turned into (50 men gang jumping through empty systems and you get like 30-40 sec gate-lag, I wonÆt even mention what fleet fights are like), make me question why I continue to play this game in itsÆ broken state. I have been talking to some friends and corp mates, and many of them experience exactly the same problem as I do û random crash to desktop without an error message or any indication that something is wrong. Would have been really nice if CCP can just admit that their client is ****ed up atm û at least we would know that the problem is not on our side.
@GruFF83 û donÆt bother submitting anything. I donÆt even know if the bughunters actually check the logserver log and the crashdump. In my case it felt like they just looked at the dxdiag file and immediately decided that my old drivers are the problem. I am sure that if they had actually reviewed all the information that I sent them, they would have come up with something more original than ôupdate your driversö! Hey, they could have even found the reason for the crash!

Still no reply from CCP to the bug report that i submitted almost 2 weeks ago. My client keeps crashing and i think it's getting worse. The crashes are more frequent now, and not even the Event Viewer registers them anymore. There is just nothing to indicate what's wrong with the client and that there has been a crash.
Something in the latest devblog caught my eye: Please, also keep in mind that our developers are constantly fixing bugs - small ones, big ones, important ones and obvious ones. But also bugs youæve never experienced, never seen and never heard of. The EVE code base is as big as the universe itself and weære constantly engaged in cleanup and backend work that the players will never notice unless something goes horribly wrong.
Bull****! What else can i say under the given circumstances?! Something is horribly wrong with your client and I am noticing it every day now! You wanna find out what it is?! |

I have the latest version of DirectX 9 installed - no problems with it are showing on the diagnostic. I tried playing around with the graphics menu, but it didn't help. Also, I don't understand why i should lower my graphics and disable effects and stuff in order to play this game (and yeah, i know that removing effects is essential for 0.0 fleet combat and I think it's just sad ).
Yesterday I reinstalled my EVE client - that didn't help either, I still get crashes. I play a number of other games too, EVE is the only one giving me trouble. Still no response from the bug hunting team... it's interesting that we actually pay money to play this game |

Not a bad idea and i might try it, but you know what CCP's response was when i filed my first bug report about this problem? That's right - "Update drivers". I was using old drivers back then, which worked quite well really - game was still crashing, but not as bad as it is now. I updated my drivers, problem got worse. I filed a second bug report, i specifically mentioned that i have updated drivers to the latest version, and i get the same response - "Update drivers". That was actually worse than no response whatsoever.
Did i mention that my respect for CCP is steadily approaching 0? |

Well, I wasn't able to prevent my client from crashing and I received no help from the CCP for over a month and a half, I decided to try and run the game on a different OS - Windows 7. So far everything is going smoothly and i have experienced no problems on the new OS. I closed my second bug report, as obviously nobody was paying attention to it anyway.
This whole experience really ****ed me off and the little respect I had left for CCP went down the drain.
For anyone who tries seeking solutions to their issues with EVE on this forum - here are a couple of things which i learned the hard way:
1. Don't count on getting any help from CCP's staff. The fact that you are a paying customer means pretty much nothing here. If you get lucky, another player who has had the same problem as you, might stumble on your thread and be able to help you - that's your best bet.
2. Filing a bug report will get you nowhere. Gathering all those things that they ask of you - logserver log, crashdump, etc - is just a waste of time. I followed the instructions precisely, gathered all the information that was needed and i filed not one, but two bug reports on a single problem that i was having. The only thing i got from those two reports was frustration! I am willing to bet, that the bug hunters didn't even look at half of the information that i sent them. |

I get this. Running 3 client, some or all can randomly crash several times a day for no reason while other clients remain fine. I've tried fresh clients even a fresh Windows install several time and it still happens. I bug reported months back but got the usual we response "we cant repeat, submit more reports".
