Edited by: Edward Russ on 17/06/2010 08:14:18 ...'cause it looks pretty darn cool.
Seriously. This might be the coolest looking ship in the whole game, and I'd love to find an excuse to fly one.
Does anyone use one of these? If so, what do you do with it? Is it ever not a mistake?
Thanks in advance for your anecdotes and input.
edit If you need more information to guide your approach to this question, I'm a brand-new Amarr pilot. I have a lousy schedule, and I'm looking at solo pvp, ratting, or mission running (though I'd prefer to avoid Empire space).
The ship I had been planning to work towards until I saw the Aashimu was a Zealot. How do these ships stack up?

Edited by: 1Ekrid1 on 17/06/2010 11:06:51 its so good looking its imba in the fashion dept, too bad I dont wann xtrain minnie to get it. or maybe I should. if only that had been a sansha cruiser..
its a ship with 100% bonus to turret damage, which means more cap to play with, and its got tackling bonuses, compared to the zealot which doesn't. so its probably a pwn solo ship, and great for small gangs, but the zealot is still cheaper.. much cheaper. fly this when you can afford to buy carriers on a regular basis. you also need to fit it out to have the best chance to preserve it, and that means faction mid and low slot mods and T2 or faction guns. There's 1, repeat 1, frigate in the T1 lineup designed to be a suicide tackler. the rest are for COMBAT. so don't tell me to tackle when I'm in a combat T1 frig. OR tell CCP to fix their mess. |

I'm curious about the ship as well, and even went looking for it's kid brother the Cruor (couldn't find one for sale in an area that I'd feel comfortable flying in). I know what I'd do with the frigate -tackle. Of course I'd use the cruiser version for the same role.

Solo it would probably do mediocre as it is a failry heavy and slow ship with a large pricetag. If you want a solopwnmobile the cynabaal is a better bet as it has the speed to gtfo when things go **** up, as they often do when soloing is involved.
EDIT: also, it blasts out its cap in seconds if you don't watch out. |

Edited by: Jennifer Fenring on 17/06/2010 11:33:48 I'd just fly one for the looks. Furthermore, a 100% bonus to lasers already makes it very nice on the DPS side and makes it a lot easier to fit and cap friendly (6 for the price of 3, you need that since you don't have the usual Amarr cap bonus) and leaves you 2 utility slots for salvage/tractor beams, neut/vamp or smartbombs.
Downside are of course the small drone bay and price. For the price you could be flying a Curse which has a far better neut bonus and setup (since it fits missiles). The web bonus is nice and great against frigs but a web range bonus would really make it even better, I imagine fast frigs outside web range are really a pain although the neut should be able to take care of that. The Ashimmu has a very generous PG tough so fitting PG heavy weapons shouldn't be a problem. |

A few years ago while i was ratting in low sec, one of the npc dropped one Ashimmu BPC. I built the boat , its pretty good looking but I would not use it in pvp, too easy to loose it. So sometimes I just jump in and fly around in empire |

A bit before CCP nerfed Nano'phoons they nerfed the Ashimmu's mass (and possibly its agility too). At the time a friend of mine had one specifically fit to tackle them while still maintaining enough tank to stay alive while a defence fleet shot it. At the time it had no 100% damage bonus, so you fitted lasers and neuts and got measly damage or you flew a Pilgrim (with the advantage of a Cov Ops cloak) or Curse. With the web changes and the faction ship revamp it is now looking like a decent prospect again but it's still sluggish, getting the speed or agility out of it to make it ideal in a heavy tackler role leaves you heavily lacking in tank...
However, it is very sexy :-) --

Nothing really stands out about it. DPS is meh @ 346. Not too nimble. Has an okish tank, over 50k eft ehp but I wouldn't fly this thing when there are pilgrims and curses available.
If you fly solo it'll be hard to catch anything and everyone wants an expensive killmail. In a gank you will be primaried.

I fly mine pretty expensively, with nearly everything faction/cheap deadspace. To really make this cruiser shine as a solo it takes faction/deadspace mods. Although in doing this I get nearly an 80k armor buffer, with almost 20k armor. I've found its a pretty perfect counter for a vagabond. If it gets in range of your neuts it's dead in the water if you use 3 dark blood medium neuts, almost neuts it dry in one cycle; esp. if he's mwd. If you get your 90% web on him he wont get away. Pretty much the only thing that can outrun you if you get your web on it is a snaked dramiel =/.

Who in their right mind has the ISK to buy carriers on a "regular basis?" Am I missing something here, where are the ISKies?!?!

A Curse requires far more skills an although it's not bad, the Ashimmu looks better. Just for fun or L2/3 missions - why not use it if you can afford it?
@OP: no, it's not as cool as it looks but it's pretty good for a t1 cruiser. The damage is decent, it has a lot of shield and armor buffer and for FW missions where you're only allowed to use t1 cruisers I guess it's also a good choice.

If you want better damage, get an Omen Navy Issue, it's cheaper too. If you want awesome neuting power with nice drone dps, get a curse.
Using an expensive neut boat with bad dps for missions is just going to end badly. Theres just too many other ships that can do the job better. If its for the looks then go nuts I guess. . .

How did I know you were going to pop up in this thread? Like we told you last night and others on here have also said, buy a Curse or Pilgrim instead. Failing that just tell everybody you are flying it coz it's SEXY.

It's a spendy toy. But if for some reason I were dead set on flying one, I'd make sure to use FN webs and at least a LG Talisman set in my head.
And then I'd fly it around for awhile and get back in a Curse. Or a Pilgrim.

No your just wrong, the Ashimmu costs maybe 150m-ish it's not very much more expensive then a zealot. Also the Ash puts out an amazing tank with t2 gear, faction makes it even more beast but it shames the zealot + curse for tank with t2. Its taking two of the best Amarr ships and making them into a sexy beast.. but as for cost they're one of the cheeper faction cruisers. I think you are thinking of a baalglahorn which costs roughly 900m. Also faction guns fail.

Either you're ignorant or you're trolling, but either way I'm too tired to care. The ashimmu does quite well in PvE. Thre guns, a couple drones, three vampires, adequate speed, and decent fitting capacity (not just cpu/grid) gives you a great ship for L2s and probably an adequate to good ship for L3s at the worst.
For mission running fun it's a good ship, but not so good for serious running though. The curse beats it hands down simply by being able to run L4 missions which I wouldn't trust an ashimmu in. The curse will do more rDPS and significantly more eDPS while often if not always maintaining a superior tank, all for the low cost of slightly slower turning rates and top velocity and a slightly larger signature radius.
To recap, I disagree with the opinion that the ashimmu is "worse than useless" for PvE, but I do agree that the curse is superior to it.

Edited by: Jenny Cameron on 19/06/2010 11:48:46 I think the Ashimmu asks for a bit of creativity.
For instance, what about the HUGE powergrid and very good capacitor? It's more than any other cruiser has, yet it only fits 3 lasers?
Would it be viable to fit 2 Heavy Pulse lasers? Too bad the bonus only applies to medium lasers ..
