So quick question, are the planets still worth training for to mine/start a little industry etc
Been playing a few weeks and think i may have overheard someone saying its not worth it?

Yes, it's still worth it and it's something to do on those days when you just don't feel like undocking. ___________________________________ "In the land of predators, the lion does not fear the jackal." -Dexter |

It's still in the very beginning. It was yesterday when the "competing" NPC sell orders were removed. Some people may, however, have lots of stockpiles they've bought from the NPCs at a cheap price. However, despite some individuals (even if it's a large group of individuals) have stockpiles that last them years, I'd expect that the total volume going around makes some goods very valuable in a month or two. If you want to play safe, all goods that are required by POS (player-owned starbases or "towers") and tech 2 production are a sure bet.
The prices will, however, take quite some time before they stabilize, so in the beginning have to be careful - you might reap huge profits or just get ripped off, depending on what you sell and where.

I have stuff worth 75M sitting on 4 of my planets right now. That's the harvest of 1 1/2 days. Does that answer your question?

I was auto-piloting 15 jumps to Jita from the wormhole exit somewhere in Domain, in my Orca with AFK freighters passing me (yes, the Orca is that slow), and playing with my planets located in w-space. It made the journey go quicker.

I guess my biggest concern is how much attention I'm going to need to be paying and how often I'm going to have to be visiting the planets I set up on. I've got some bases I've used for gaining standing out and away from the hub ... which is not that big a deal if I only have to go out there to pick up product now and then - but if I have to visit those systems fairly often just to manage the installation ... I'm not so sure I want to be doing that.
I understand you can program your assembly line and put product into silo's but not so sure how much product those silos will hold - since while I'm training the skills - I've never actually constructed an installation yet, just read some of the guides.
So, how often do you have to empty those silos if you don't want to halt production - and - is there any kind of corporate access to the facilities or is it just the guy who built it? If I could have an alt pick up the product that would make things a lot easier.
The other thing I haven't seen much on - is how vulnerable these bases are to attack. I've read that there is no planetary bombardment allowed but I also understand that Dust 514 will be based around people on consoles playing mercenaries who do attack these facilities. Is that only going to be in Low Sec? Or if war decc'd can someone hire Dust Mercenaries to come attack your planetary facilities?

A starport can hold several days worth of stuff, if you're processing raw materials at the same pace they're extracted. You can also build multiple starports, and remotely shift between them with expedited transfers when one gets full.
You can potentially set everything going and, aside from prodding the extractors and moving stuff between starports every so often, not return for several weeks. _

They can not be attacked. Dust ain't released yet and there is no release date either. Given the investments you have to make with PI any form of speculation about Dust is just ****ing.

Cool. That should work.
