I never thought it would be done, but yeah. EVE, with robots.

I have to be honest, I'm not seeing any similarity with Eve at all other than it being set in the future. ____________________

Since last year they have evidently changed the UI and other aspects.

If you look past the robots and stuff, you see that they use EVE concepts, terms and general setup for almost every design element.

Thats cause they removed the pics that showed the UI which was a copy of EVE (Hangars, and the Neocom etc.) those were pretty much a direct copy of EVE.

Well so long as that UI doesn't end up in the finished product, it's not really a copy is it? They're just place-holder graphics to use until they create their own? ____________________

They removed those pics cause they have changed.

The UI is horrible, however, and need right-click context menus like no tomorrow. Currently, locking and firing upon an enemy requires like 4-5 clicks (bring up directional, click target, click primary target, activate module)

That is because you only stared at the web site, but did not read anything on it. Click on the info to it and you may see the similarities. Here, I'll help you:
- Persistent universe
Every player is a part of one server, one scene, one storyline.
- Time-based character development
No need for 'grinding'. You can be qualified despite you're not playing, since players get XP even if they are not logged in.
- Active raw material simulation
The position of liquid materials change during exploitation. Controlled algorythms manage the respawn of raw materials.
- Real-time, asynchronous combat
No turns, therefore no time restrictions of combat moves.
- Self-controlling economy
Exploitation, refinement and even manufacturing are all controlled by the players. The speed and efficiency of fabrication processes can be developed throughout the game.
I do not mean to advertise for them, however not wanting to see any similarities with EVE is just blind. --

also pretty much every module you can fit to your robot is the same as something from EVE
Lasers, Autocannons, Railguns, Missiles, Webs, Armour Reps, Armour Plates, Armour Hardeners, Cap Injectors, Cap Batteries, Cap Rechargers, NOS, Neuts, Sensor Boosters, Sensor Damps, ECM, Nanos, Damage Mods are all in the game and do exactly the same thing they do in EVE

I do not mean to advertise for them, however not wanting to see any similarities with EVE is just blind.
All that, and then there's the fact that their UI used to be an exact replica of EVE before they realized they'd get sued. It's basically a clone, but you're a robot instead of a ship.

It's pretty well established that you cant copyright a UI
The real mystery is why anyone would copy EVE's UI
Malcanis' Law: Whenever a mechanics change is proposed on behalf of "new players", that change is always to the overwhelming advantage of richer, older players. |

None of that is innovative, simply accounting formatting being moved from one medium to another. Imitation: Format + Innovation: Computer = Excel.
Dont argue with an engineer about innovation, you have no clout .

Doubleclick target in overview, starts lock and auto-primaries. Once locked, hit spacebar. Done. (Spacebar by default is alpha button) _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

I looked up a video on Youtube about how this game contains destructible environments. For some reason, all the stuff that was supposed to be destructible disappears before it actually "destructs".

so M$ should sue CCP for riping off excel
Stop being a drooling fanboy, thanks.
Also no, I didn't mean that they would get sued because of the UI, just that they ended up changing it (Among other things) in the process which was started by them realizing that an exact replica might lead to a law suit.
