I find faction warfare to be alot of fun really.
Still there are some aspects of it that needs changes and an overall.
Main concern should be for ccp to create an incentive for taking and holding a system.

Where would FW be without rampant homo-erotic innuendos? I dread even to consider such a possibility.
Other then that I don't think there's a person involved in FW who doesn't know the mechanics are a pile of garbage. Maybe Daniel Jackson but thankfully he left. -Jin Nib Trading on behalf of Opera Noir since: 2009.03.02 03:53:00

Edited by: Lyn Farel on 21/06/2010 12:55:49 FW is a great source of fun, but everyone is aware it definitely needs some attention, starting with EWar and missiles balancing in plexes.
But besides that, I do think the mechanisms are really poor and non immersive. You have to wait, wait and wait in plexes to capture them, or tank the NPCs in the case of an enemy plex. Thats all, no reward, but before all, no fun. Nevertheless, it is in plexes that you can get the most awesome fights in FW.
Firstly, FW missions reward LP. That makes people run them instead of contesting territory, the true essence of FW and what it is done for. Plexes should reward in LPs, with missions being an auxiliary source of income when there are no plexes to run.
Secondly, why not adding some fun and immersion in the plex mechanisms themselves ? Why not removing this stupid timer and replace it with waves of enemy transports trying to invade and assault the facility, this while keeping the defence navy NPCs trying to defend the base and adding some enemy NPCs trying to escort the transports ? Thus the capsuleers would have to defend the plex against enemy transports when defending, and helping/covering their friendly transports when assaulting. Why not adding sometimes (not always ofc) a faction commander in a few plexes ? Why not making those plexes feel like real starbases, i mean, like a fortress you are assaulting, not just this meaningless little lonely structure ? Why not doing the same on a more enormous scale for bunker busting (when system is vulnerable) ?
Not sure if it is really difficult to do, and it would add so more to the FW feeling... |

Plexing/occupancy is pointless. It's pointless having a pointless mechanic in place.
PvE factor: Great inequality in how each faction's NPCs perform. Specifically, Amarr NPCs are the most worthless garbage ever.

Simple. Corps in the militia that controls a system have 3 fold increase in PI production. Corps in the non controlling militia have their production halved.

Aside from fixing timer bugs and NPC glitches, FW system occupancy needs an upgrade.
How about after a system is flipped, the side that lost the system has until the following downtime to remove and POS towers, planetary interaction gear and anything from any militia corp stations in the system. After DT, any POS hostile to the new occupying faction comes unanchored automatically (and new towers can't be anchored by hostile forces), PI stuff goes offline and the station changes hands from one faction to the other...with hostile militia being barred from docking there.

One of the main issues with fw, is the simple fact that there is no reason to contest sov at all, and ccp have yet to present an incentive for taking systems.
Then theres the Empire standing increase wich is only one time increases. wich initially are great, but then when you start doing a rr spider and take gcc, you wreck that standing compleatly with no way of getting it back trough FW gameplay.
Wich in the end ruins our ability to pull missins and make money trough FW.
These things here are the main changes i think there should be made to FW to improve it.
(could also instert, random events for fw.... event team is suposed to be back isnt it)

FW is nice for the large war dec. But in order to get that you have to deal with allot of negatives.
I agree with Dunn about the standings hits.
That post downtime is really the only good time to plex is obviously bad.
I think the fight for occupancy could be allot more fun if 1) there were no npcs and more importantly 2) militias were informed when where and by whom plexes were being taken.
But other than that, I think it's a very nice set up. -Cearain

i personally agree with dunn for the most part also.
i wish to see insentive for taking the systems we fight over. at the moment there is no contested systems because we just dont care, there is no reason to take the systems. if therwe was insentive behind it im also sure that more substatial or more important fights may kick off

The users have made CCP aware of exactly what the issues are with FW since day one.
After an initial bug-hunt for the low-sec lag (because it effected people other then FW). All development stopped and FW was left without any devs, game designers, or any attention at all.
FW was released for the sole purpose of marketing and hype.
For the amount of marketing CCP pumped into FW and the amount of horn blowing they did............................................
Surely it deserves a second sprint within the first 10 years of release.

Edited by: Flashh Gorden on 22/06/2010 05:23:41 People call the plexes and occupancy mechanics meaningless but in all ohnestly its no where as meaningless as forming a fleet and flying from Tama too OMS and back again every day.
Or if your a Gallentee spending your entire time camping the Nourv gate in Tama thats meaningless.
Atleast taking or defending a system /constelation/region has some kind of purpose and goal. Yes the effects of this or the rewards are not great but its a hell of alot less meaningless than flying around in fleets that do nothing but fly up and down the same pipe day in day out or camp the same old gates.

I enjoy FW... it's better than 0.0. Each to their own and all that.
In terms of improving it... All CCP need to do is introduce a consequence for the opposing militia for losing occupancy.
I do like the PI penalty/buff idea. I'd also like to see Faction Navy NPC's on system gates too (with no tag drops). I also think there should be some sort of station consequence (docking fee for opposing militia, increased repair costs on top of anything else etc).
Then address the plexing bugs

Edited by: Cearain on 22/06/2010 14:25:51 Edited by: Cearain on 22/06/2010 14:25:21 There are a few more or less minor things we have communicated to ccp about fw. These would include fixing bugs having plexs spawn throughout the day balance npcs. CCP really hasnÆt addressed these. CCP has responded to many issues (not all) including lag and giving fw a nice boost in apocrypha 1.5. But beyond these tweaks there are very few assembly hall ideas that have been met with wide support by the players.
If you disagree link the threads. And don't give me the "fix fw" proposals that basically say "yay! make fw better! yay!" Because those threads will just end up everyone supporting it, but with different (and often contradictory) ideas as to what would in fact ôfix fw.ö
I posted a thread in assembly hall simply proposing that occupancy would mean something. It recieved only two supports other than mine. Hardly enough to make csm do anything. http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1246298&page=1#6
And right now I don't even like the idea myself. I don't want the occupancy to mean allot because many of the ideas have negative consequences. However, boosting the lp gained from plexing seems ok and sensible to me.
Primarily I want fighting for occupancy to be fun in itself. That is what the actual fw game is and it should be fun not a grind. IÆm not interested in occupancy remaining the pve drudgery it is now, but with a larger reward for slogging through it.
If we want changes to faction war then we, like everyone else in eve, have to put a proposal in the correct forum (Assembly hall) and get support for it from the players. I currently have a proposal in Assembly hall that I think would make fw the greatest thing in all of eve. (see my sig) But if players donÆt support it then how and why should we expect the csm to take up the issue? I like my idea allot but if the rest of the players donÆt, csm *shouldnÆt* take the idea to ccp.
CCP has offered us a mechanism to have changes made to the game. If we donÆt use that mechanism in anything close to a sensible way (I donÆt consider a ôfix faction warö proposal sensible) how can we blame ccp?

FW-mechanics itself are quite fine, some bugs should be fixed but no major issues.
One thing that should be changed is the player material who joins to FW, that needs a lot of improvement.

Since you do allot of fw I am interested in your opinion. You said this in another thread:

Yes, there is pvp. But FW itself is dead, no one fights for occupancy.
So I take it that you acknowledge that only a small part of fw pvp takes place on account of occupancy. However, you think itÆs a problem with the players that they don't find the current mechanics for fw occupancy fun?
I'm just trying to understand your view here.

His view is the same as always. Current FW mechanics for the most part favor his corp's Time Zone and play style. So no need for any changes.

Replace the tags of FW plex NPCs with an LP bounty system - kill the NPCs and a player in the appropriate militia gets LPs equivalent to the the tags value, the value of which is shared between all the militia players in the plex. Gives people something to do while they sit on the button without having to waste time looting from dozens of frigate wrecks. Gives a reason to bring something larger than a speed-tanking frigate. Obviously the number of NPCs in each plex should be limited.
Ban all Tech 2 and Pirate faction ships of any size from all FW plexes. FW should be accessible to newbs, not just rich players in Dramiels.
Make running missions affect system occupancy somehow. Make mission location be determined by the capture state of systems, bringing people together into contested systems to increase the liklihood of fights.
Apply the same ship restrictions to mission plexes as apply to FW plexes. Basically if people want to run level 4 FW missions they should have to do it in a battleship or a well-tanked BC, not a stealth bomber.
Balance the additional risk of doing this by making mission and FW plexes accessible only to players that are a member of a FW militia.
NPCs in missions would also give LP bounty to discourage people from simply blitzing the mission objective.
