if u have more characters u can switch setups, no one said u need to field the same pilots...
and it,s clear that PL wants to keep them, cause they can easily afford them and change them ;), so they have a bit of an advantage, saw nearly every match and PL was not really inovative this tournament, solid setups but nothing unbeatable, just 2 setups isnt much u need to prepare against...
PS Seldarine: fielding the same no tank setup, is poor, cause u only won the first cause they had a T3 and couldnt get close, with a normal logi, they would have won...

Replace the tourney with a couple coin tosses, it would be much less stressful (wat) on pilots and fair to people who don't want to take a risk and spend some isk.

Well PL do have a point it is an "Alliance Tournament", not 10 man tournament or corporation tournament.
So most of the established alliances should be able to procure resources easily enough if their alliance is behind them in the tournament.
A lot of the rules suggested seems to be aimed at making the tournament more of a 10 man thing and less of an alliance effort.

I strongly suggest you stop looking at the fine print of the rules as the source of PLs success and start looking at your actual ability to fight with small gangs against even sides.
The video replays show that PL was never going to lose any of their matches, with or without hardwirings, ammo or any other excuse you want to come up with. You're not doing yourselves any favours if you keep ignoring the rather blatant difference between PL and 95% of the other teams thats staring you in the face.

I don't think hardwirings and 20% ammo is really a problem. We spent maybe 4b on our tournament team + implants. And we finished in second place. The HYDRA RELOADED flagship didn't even exist, we just chose an officer bhaalgorn because we thought Thats what would cause rush based teams the most concern.
I think there would be maybe 3~ fights, and I use that pretty generously, that could have been changed if the teams were fielding 5% rather than 3% implants. Also, some of the cheapest implants make the biggest impact (Slot 10 Leadership implants etc.), which would also change the game very drastically. ---

You got him there.
I will admit there was one implant we used that made a pretty big difference: Information Warfare Mindlink... TECH TWO. They're pretty pricey, but they own rooks that are using off-racial jammers.

So you admit that PL bought their tournament victory with expensive Tech 2(!) modules? *** I AM A RUS HON SUPERSTAR |

Edited by: Spatiopathe on 29/06/2010 06:16:36 Implants are part of game and character. its an alliance tournament, so its natural that alliance prepare themselve with many billion on ship/fitting/implant, with pilot skill train month ago, and training.
And there's no podkill on tournament (except by accident smartbomb etc..) pirate implant dont give extra damage, all of them are defensive, and dont think that many pilot buy them. (1-2b/pilot)....but hey there some set for reduce signature, boost hp, augment the sensor strengh, speed , etc... that's could change a match, specially with a command ship pilot with mindlink in their setup, for reinforce this effect.
but many of these effect dont change the dps on a target of ennemy fleet who will take full damage when he's web/scramble/neutra/paint
for hardwiring who are cheaper and weaker than set. you can boost 15% dps or augment few thing.
The most interessant thing that we cant see is to know what are the favorite setup for implant, pirate and hardiwiring, and what are the gangmodule use by BC/CS with what mindlink. Well, i'm asking myself -Anyone use the pirate sets for sensorstrengh for counter ecm setup? -Does many team with shield use the pirate set for boost 56%hp shield boost like tengu and sleipnir ? -Does armor team use the hp armor bonus pirate implant? -Does the logi pilot have strange implant fit ?
in all case, implant improve tactics and its good, but the matter is that nobody know, we can see ship , fires, drone in a match, but we dont see fitting, we dont see implants..
I really think that if there's only one rule to make:
"CCP must reveal the implant setup for each match after the tournament, and include a small description near video."
That will help many people to appreciate more the fights.

Pirates implants ARE forbidden already...
But hardwirings are not. Why is that ?? Price is the issue ? A full "PL" hardwiring set is probably worth twice a hi-grade Slave (2B). And allowing faction (not deadspace, only faction) items would still be "cheap" compared to hardwirings (and it has less effects in most cases).
So... Yeah, hardwirings [and hi-end faction ammo] seem at least as overpowered and "in favor of rich alliances" as faction items or pirate implants, which are forbidden for a reason...
Fitting hardwirings (3% max ?) and mindlinks are rather cheap, and give some tactical possibilities. They should be the only allowed implants imo.
