*bows to CCP*
Thank you CCP for keeping TQ uptime threw the years better than World of Warcraft, Everquest 2, and City of Heroes/Villains. I have accounts with those games and many more that I pay my monthly fee for however Eve Online seems to have the better track record for server uptime. So to you CCP, again I give my thanks. Take your time and get it right.
And for those of you complaining just remember that a lot of games go down for "extended downtime" nearly EVERY week or have longer maintenance periods than Eve Online does most of the time. Your $15 a month gets you more actual playtime in game with Eve Online than you'll get in most other games. That's saying something

how in the sam hill can you throughly test the database with only 20 people. Come on guys with over 40k on line at any given time a through test would have to have at least 55 of that amonunt. No wonder you have QC problems.

Uhhh GMT and UTC are approx the same time - Read This
Education about timezones seems to be epic fail in many locations....
There is one problem that throws away some people. Although the UTC time is basically the same as GMT, in Iceland they dont use day light saving time. This is why sometimes the time does not matches with GMT in different stages of a year, which leads to the confusion i think

Hey if thats all they lost, we're all in good shape. I'm thinking we better check inventory, hangers, corp assets etc and make sure NOTHING else is missing. Oh...wallets too, unless I have MORE than I remember last LOLOL..yeah right, like that will ever happen. Once the new servers are up and running, we can start looking at power back up, and server crash times, and lots of fun ahead right ?

A few billion? Try about 20,000...probably less. On importance...am I the only one who thinks spending some of my limited time of self-awareness being mentally stimulated by a form of entertainment is important? I think not. :) I can change my slavery status within the society in which i exist simply by leaving that society. So can you.
Not all of us will be dead in 100 years. Advancements in science and medicine are already seeing to that. It's estimated that the average lifespan of a human born after 1995 is 120 years. I think these people are concerned about downtime and training queues and whatnot because it's something to do to alleviate the monotony and distance themselves from the cold hard facts of life you tried to describe. Kudos on the last bit...about reality being what we perceive. That part is profound, if not over-used.
By the way, what is a "complex memory transgression"? :)

Outstanding.....We pay for the right to gripe and moan......CCP has marketed it's Product (EVE) to be intertwined our lives......so when my daily vacation from RL in interrupted....I am a disappointed and require some compensation.....Now if you are someone who orders something and eagerly awaits it and does not get it cheers because I just happen to have the Brooklyn bridge for sale.....Please visit www.brooklynbridgesale.com and use the idiotinwaiting Code....lol

Ok really, were going to complain about a longer than expected DT and say CCP isnt doing its job, or isnt satisfying its customers. Name ONE other MMO out there that routinly releases FREE content upgrades, or that can run everything on a single shard. WOW has just as many downtimes, just as long or longer DTs, and has you pay for expansion packs. As a customer, even with the longer than expected DT, I salute you CCP, for making my 15 a month go farther than with any other MMO.

Edited by: Braetac Toric on 24/06/2010 16:19:15 The problem I had with it was the..
"Hey... it will be up by this time"
"No... now this time"
"Sorry, maybe this time it will work."
I understand unforeseen circumstances happy but do NOT give people a time to expect things to be up only to push it back 4 or 5 times.
After the first window they should have said...
"Hey, we have major problems here... the game will be back up an running when we get it all straightened out".

Perhaps CCP can import the lost posts from eve-search.com?
Edit: Ironically and awesomely, CCP's link on the front page to an information thread leads to this thread about lost posts
Originally by: Setertius neat feat, the frontpage "TQ downtime" link leads here, seems they are re-using thread ids already...
Yeah I am betting that the SAN issue was swapping data to the wrong disks and corrupted some databases. While CCP is fairly good especially with software they lack that last bit of polish that would make them truly great professionals at server and network administration. So I am also betting that they somehow lack the ability to do a quick full restore to right before the change. Unfortunately it seems "fly by the seat of your pants" for big changes is CCP's IT weakness.
IMHO the actual change should have only been a matter of load the most current data. If CCP was totally professional about such a major change, everything should have been loaded, configured, and tested on this new hardware setup with software and data from 1-3 days ago before attempting the change.
I realize CCP might have wanted to reuse some items from the old setup. But most computer hardware vendors will lend extra hardware or allow free swapping for a short time changeover period if you are not replacing everything. And if vendors wouldn't cough up missing hardware for the new setup for free...CCP could have rented or leased or paid a small fee for exchanging hardware tied up in the old configuration for new hardware.
CCP is just lucky that their product is so much better than competitors that CCP can count on a captive audience.

Stop with the wining, nagging, and the B*t*Hing! What will they work harder and fast to shut you up? NO! Its just a game people just a game its for entertainment. While you all have entertained me for the last hour while read all the post, I actually found some information on whats going on with CCP and TQ move! Read This post http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=769
After reading that I tip my hat at the CCP that's some pretty heavy sh*t man. Not every one on here is lame. So I apologize on behave of all those lame people we are sorry for the inconvenience to those people who work hard maintaining this wonderful game full of hours of entertainment for less than on trip to the movies.
P.S. @ all you lames who read this grow up and stop nagging at CCP your all at home ignoring your families and they just want to go home to there families and watch the game!

If our opinion mattered we wouldn't be posting here.
So I will grin and bear it because I have to.
I take no pleasure in my fellow gamers misery, I feel your pain as my X president would say.
We share a common addiction to the best MMO out there...So I wish them (CCP) Godspeed..with the emphasis on speed.

Howdy CCP,
Do you gents need a hand?
I propose that you create a forum in which you could ask technical questions and receive ideas and insight from your players. A fair number of us are SEs, DBAs, and technologists.
It just seems like you (CCP) are constantly operating at the edge of your abilities and could use all the (free) help you can get.

The System may become unavailable for a number of reasons, including without limitation during the performance of maintenance to the System, for the implementation of new software, for emergency situations and due to equipment or telecommunications failures.
You all agreed to this when you created your account. Didn't read it? Your own fault. Now stop complaining about DT, would you? ;)
EDIT: This also means you cannot claim any reimbursement for that downtime! If we get one, it's only because of CCP's goodwill, and I wouldn't give us one after reading all this whining...
This pretty much spells it out people.
That being said, CCP has in the past given a free day when a downtime has unexpectedly run long or a severe bug has surfaced after an upgrade/expansion. However, that was completely at their discretion and they were under no obligation to do so.
By the way, when they say it is always a good idea to set a long skill before an upgrade/expansion they mean it. People who get their panties in a bunch over a few hours of skill training lost tend to make me laugh anyway... although I shouldn't (obsesive/compulsive behavior isn't a joking matter). ===== If you go to Za'Ha'Dum I will gank you. |

Like I said on my corp forums: I'll take it, thank you very much! There will be plenty of time for retribution; I cannot wait to get its hands on these psychotic zealots whose primary form of worship apparently takes place at the altar of orbital bombardment.

Really think we will make another 20K years? I am not a pessimist, but I doubt that! The way we (humans) are on the way to destroy this earth, I don't think we even make 2 centuries. Look what we did to the gulf of Mexico, that alone will take more then a century to recover. Oil is still flowing massively, and all they are concerned about is the economy.
