Would I do it: Yes. Multiple times. My opinion on it: A great way to pad my wallet and have some lulz. When is it okay to steal: Um. You have to balance between "payout now" and "potential payout in the future." But if you're saying "when is it morally okay to steal", well, the answer to that one is simple. Always. When isn't it: Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... Can I get back to you on this one? I can't think of an example.
Stories of corp theft, am I a thief: Yes. Multiple times. Did it happen to me: Does causing it count? In other, related news, Mitnal was never here. |

1. yes. 2. it's fine as long as you can seperate the game from real life 3. when it's a game mechanic, done in character, and has no bearing on real world relationships (good or bad). 4. It isn't okay when there are real world implications, when you cannot separate the real from the fantasy, when done for any reason not game related, if you have any questions about the morality of it (sign that even if you think you can separate, you can't fully).
Like with anything in the game, it's only okay if you aren't bringing real life into it (I don't mean playing with RL friends together). The moment you start taking things too seriously you've gone too far. If, for instance, you create an alt and join a corp, get roles, then rob it blind because you don't like a member of the corp that you know in real life you've crossed a line. support the parrot

Nope wouldn't do it. It's part of the game. Decision is always going to lay with the thief.
I was in a corp that got ripped off by a long time director. He was a decent enough guy, no one knows why he did it. At the time I was miffed, but now it's just added a new element to my game play. I keep track of the thief, see when he logs on or not, run the odd location trace on him and if i'm particularily bored, swing an alt to his area to see if it's worth getting on the bat phone to get the gang together to pay him a visit.
He now seems to be doing well for himself in Reikoku.
I suppose this must be my sig. I'll do something cool with it eventually. |

Never okay, unless the majority of your income comes from scams IMO. It's about professionalism. Why would anyone pay my ransom if they can't trust me? I've done some very evil things back in the day, but I was honest about all of them.

If you would have asked this question 12 months ago then I would have said hell yeah, go for it, you'll make a fortune.. While this is true, its also very hollow..
You can make a tone of isk with corp thefts no doubt about that. You are essentially taking what a small army of people have done for yourself. If you enjoy the crying this will generate then its even better for you and you ALWAYS get a tone of tears and death threats (sometimes even very explicit out of game ones that you can send to GMs for the added bonus of an EULA violation and possible ban). Its amazingly good fun if you are in to being sneaky and underhanded.
It also has an ugly side that isn't too ofter talked about however. You will eventually want to join a serious corp with all of the isk you have taken from others to enjoy your spoils and they will want API keys. They will also be very skilled in finding out what you have done and who your alts are. Most of the time this will bar you from joining anyone with half a brain (you know, the good alliances that you actually want to be in) and will get you in to a situation where you have a tone of isk but you cant do that thing you actually signed up to play for..
As long as you know the risks then it is up to you.

This is mitigated by doing infiltration using only dedicated alts/accounts. Corp theft, particularly in wormholes, is the best ISK/hour in the game. With the advent of ISK-purchased gametime, you can keep several accounts going off the proceeds from corp thefts, biomassing characters as they get too badly burned by victims. You have nothing to fear from limited API checks, since none of your 'real' characters are on those accounts and all your ill-gotten wealth is transferred away.
I have three infiltration alts going right now. They pay for themselves easily, plus keeping my main in the extravagant lifestyle to which he has become accustomed. ---- Blog: My Loot, Your Tears |

I agree completely. Wormhole corp robbery is the best robbery. I can't recall the last time I actually *paid* for a T3 ship - the last few at least were stolen. Best of all, since wormhole corps are pretty ramshackle, they're far easier to infil than 0.0 alliances.
As for my story, I'm a thief in a corp full of thieves. I used to be a pretty famous thief five years ago, but now I'm just another thief - remembered by few, dubbed irrelevant by the rest. Luckily, while my massive internet fame has long ago faded into obscurity, my skills and my corporation's skills have not - thanks to stealing, I, and some of my corpmates have enough ISK to play Eve Online for free, until the end of time (or server shutdown, w/ever comes first.) I can buy six officer-fitted Titans with my wallet contents.
One of us just jacked a guy for 85 billion ISK about a week ago, so we're still going strong.

Its not the limited API checks that you have to fear.. Its the day you decide to give it all in and play the game for something else. One thing I have learnt is that your past catches up with you, possibly not today and possibly not tomorrow, but one day when you want to get away from it you will get bitten in the ass because of it.
What you don't care about today may be something that you care deeply about in the future and burning your bridges is a bad way to go about planing for later on. You might be content now with your highsec wardec corp or your small group of friends that just sit around and shoot the breeze, but one day you might want more and you cant get it because of what you have done.
I have no issue with corp theft, but you have to know these things before going in to it.

The only reason anyone need ever know that I'm not the trustworthy sort is that I run a fairly popular blog about the things I do with alts. If you don't tell anyone that you made your fortune ripping off corporations with another character, then nobody will ever know.
As for my personal prospects? I have half a dozen standing offers from CEOs of Merc corps, hisec corps, wormhole corps, lowsec e-honor pirate corps, and nullsec spaceholders. It's not your former activities in the game, it's the quality of your play and how easy to get along with you are.

If you truly believe that you will get let in to a serious corp, even if they have offered you a spot, without a full API and a full background check then you are a fool.

These are people who know who I am and what I do. I'd have nothing to fear from a full API check, because what would it show, other than that I've received money from activities I blog about?
That's my point. It isn't what you've got on paper, it's how you fall into an organization. It's not like nobody has ever suddenly turned on their alliance and taken everything after being squeaky clean, right? This is game. With no real-world consequences, all trust carries with it risk. So pick someone you've flown with and had a good time with before, and take your chances. ---- Blog: My Loot, Your Tears |

What people say and what people do are usually completely different things. Apply to one that knows you are a corp theif and see if they actually let you in, or trust you enough to give you intel about ops. People will hold back because no body wants to be screwed.

No one has ripped me off Paul (you can tell because no one has come running to the forums laughing about it). I just want to make sure the OP and everyone else reading this is fully aware of the risks involved in doing it. You don't seem to actually understand the risks you are taking and you don't want to listen when people are giving you hard earned advice. Your inability to take advice is not my problem, its yours, but you coming here and telling everyone it is risk free is just pathetic.

Nope, wouldn't do it.
Had a bunch of my ships stolen from corp POS's in nullsec a while back which left me in the lurch out there. Wasn't fun, and ship theft is likely the lowest form of corp theft you can find. Crappy thing to do to the folks you play with, IMO.

I prefer to play this game as though it is actually a game.
Do you play poker in an honest fashion? Announce to everyone at the table: "I'm going to bluff you all now, prepare yourselves"
Do you even play chess in an honest fashion? Announce to your opponent: "I'm going to feint with my knight over on the left and then move my bishop on the right to trap your queen, so you'd better watch out!"
BTW, as to 'relevant'...Paul's exploits and blog were the most relevant for many players to actually want to play Eve, get enjoyment out of playing and also get entertainment from reading his posts.
How relevant is some random huge corp or alliance to the majority of Eve players? Nobody outside of your corp/alliance really cares about your missioning, mining, getting territory in nullsec or any other activity you might do.
