Im past the new player multiplier stage and wondering if i shouldnt start a new toon, and focus on learning skills from the start. On my current toon, i spent alot of time dabbling three different races and weapon types (gallente, min, and amarr) and am BC ready in all three (along with respective shield types.) I currently have almost all the basic learning skills to lvl 4, but have not started the advanced learning skills. With the knowledge i have now of the skill system and the necessary skills i need to excel in a specific race of ships, im thinking that i should start over, train all my learning skills up, and then precede to train all other aspects of my respective race.
Is this a good idea or should i just stay with my current setup?

you should do it if it will make you feel better about your character but honestly in the long run I don't think it will make a huge difference either way. I lived with 3 base perception for a pretty long time and managed to survive.

Man, you must have hated spaceship command skills even more than I do.

I have read many different topics on the learning skills and one thing stands out that relates to this.
Use EVEMon to map out all the learning skills and see how long it takes to train them up. Then use it to map out the skill necessary to maximize one of the ships and see how long it takes. Then you can do a third plan that includes both and see how much time it actually saves you with learning the learning skills.
The amount of time saved using the learning skills will not equal the amount of time spent learning the learning skills. In fact, it will take you a long time to actually make up the difference spent on learning the learning skills.
That is not to say that they are a waste of time learning them. It just really won't save you as much time as you are led to believe it will in short term planning.
Now, the fact that you actually spent all that time learning up to BC in 3 different racial ships really pushes you to start over. That fact alone would be enough for me to start over. But in doing so I still wouldn't work too hard on training up all the learning skills. I would do Int/Mem/Learning to 3 within the first couple of days while training basic skills to get through the tutorial. Then do per/will up to 3 as you start to level out your early training. Then train them up to 4 over the next week doing maybe 1 each night. Then down the road, after you are doing say lvl3 missions and your training has really started to slow down as most of your specific skills are starting to take a day or so to train, start working on the Advanced learning skills as you did with the basic ones.
Taking any of them to level 5 is really debatable. The cost in time to train them to lvl 5 is going to take years to make up in saved training time.

Don't restart now, it's gonna take you a long time to make up for the time already spent.

i guess the way im lookin at it now, is i have so much SP spread out across several different aspects that i wont be using.
Now, in the long run, im sure that i will crosstrain at some point, but for now i would really like it if all my SP were focused on a single race of ships, armor type, etc.
Knowing what i know now, even with focusing on learning skills first, i could easily be in the same position i am now within a few weeks. Most of the skills i currently need to really advance are beginning to take several days if not weeks to train. This time could easily be cut down if were skilled in all learning aspects.
The thought is, continue to do lvl 2's and 3's on my current toon, skill the learning basics, then ships basics up to cruiser level on my alt, and then transfer all isk and begin almost where i left off on my alt.

Don't do it. Just start training those learning skills on your first character. It will take the same number of SP as it will on a new alt, and you'll have a pile of SP already banked when you're done. Also, if you can run level 2-3 missions while you're training those skills you atleast have something to do.
Like you said, you're going to cross train at some point anyways right?
Oh and something else you might want to consider is here. The Payoff: How high should you train the Learnng skills? Constantly debated is how worthwhile it is to train any of the 11 learning skills (especially the so-called Advanced learning skills) up to level 5. To summarize a few different threads of mine, the average ôpayoffö times for training the various learning skills are as follows:
- The Learning skill from level 4 to level 5: 243-406 Days (varies a lot player to player) - The five Basic learning skills from level 4 to level 5 (assuming Learning 5): 443 Days 11 Hours 41 Munutes & 12 seconds - The five Advanced learning skills from level 4 to level 5 (assuming Learning 5): 3 Years 235 Days 11 Hours 3 Minutes & 38 Seconds
These ôpayoffö times are defined as the total skill points invested divided by the average improvement in training speed.
So unless you're going to be playing for a long time, its not really worth taking any of those skills above level IV. Granted your times will varie depending on what your atributes are and what skills you're training, but you can expect several hundred days to see any payoff from training those skills above level IV.

As long as you haven't screwed up your remaps you might as well continue and start doing the learning skill tedium now.
