This happens to me once a month and it takes me hours to get everything the way I want it.
It's really a big pain in the ass and something I consider a major downside to playing this game. I couldn't imagine playing this game too much longer if this is something I'll have to continue to endure if I decide to stay in the game a year or longer.

Anyone know if repairing permissions with disk utility corrects the problem?

Just in case anyone at CCP thinks this issue has gone away, I can correct that impression. I used to run eve on PC's until the Mac Premium version came out. Now run on both iMac and MacBook Pro - with a PC as backup because the damn Macs keep quitting the game for no reason and after unpredictable lengths of time. Today, it quit after being online 15 minutes (scanning planets in w-h). A corp-mate also experiences the same issues using MacBook Pro, so we now don't undertake any critical tasks using the Macs.
At least now I get the option to submit the crash report - and, boy, am I submitting crash reports!
Earlier in the thread someone said that he'd heard this was a known issue. It would be really useful if someone from CCP woul confirm that this is being worked on. Or let us know that it's time to retire Mac's from playing eve. Chief Chicken |

Today, Eve on this Imac is freezing. I go and start shooting rats and then, suddenly I cannot affect the situation. I can not warp, I cannot turn modules of or on. The screen still shows the situation and the rats flying around, shooting. On one freeze, the whole screen would flash on and off and on and off and I could not quit out of it but had to pull the plug. Is this a virus??? Its a peculiar, affliction for any program to behave like this on the Mac?

I made a shortcut on my desktop to my eve settings folder, and I backup my settings folder on a daily base...

anyone of those with the probs using 2 clients at once?
and if, are you using the symlink trick to save disk space for the other installation?

Edited by: Kia Tor on 14/08/2010 15:25:34 My settings just got trashed in the Mac yesterday. Luckily I mostly play in Bootcamp, so I just copy/pasted the settings folder from the Bootcamp partition and it worked like a charm.
I suppose if I was smart, I would keep a copy somewhere on the Mac.

Happens multiple times each day. I use two clients at once, no symlink. It doesn't always wipe settings, but regularly, yes.
How to fix it? Well, for one, there is no fix at the moment. There is a way to deal with the settings reset, though. After adjusting settings to your norm make a copy of the file:
Library, Preferences, Eve Online Preferences, p_drive, Local Settings, Application Data, CCP, EVE, c_program_files_ccp_eve_singularity, settings.
That final folder, "settings", is the one where all of your in-game choices get saved to. Copy this folder and keep it somewhere accessible... documents somewhere perhaps. Each time you get "connection lost", copy it and paste it back into the routing listed above, replacing the settings folder of the client with a copy of your desired settings. This at least removes a minor portion of the annoyance of this major issue.
