Anyone experiencing major issues with the mail client since the patch?
after the patch i clicked on the mail icon and got this message - "There is something wrong with the mail cache files. Try clearing the mail cache from the ESC menu and check that the hard drive is not full."
tried clearing the mail cache from escape menu, same message. So i cleared all the caches from the escape menu, still no resolution to the problem.
did a manual clear of all cache files, folders and settings, mail still not working.
i then did a clean install of the eve client, and repatched - same issue, same message, cant access any incoming mails (if im getting any, dont know at this stage).
right onto the weird part...
i went onto my windows client, on a different partition, and had EXACTLY the same issues and messages - mail not working.
thought maybe a router (protocols) issue/firewall issue - so disabled all firewalls and changed to a different router. Still the same problems!
anyone else experiencing this since the patch yesterday?

Yes. I'm experiencing this one an alt on one of my account that has never received mail. The main which has quite a bit of mail is fine.

cleared things here too and no dice. It was giving me the error at first and then working. Now I get the error and it won't work at all.

Having mail issues here as well. I attempted to clear the mail cache via the ESC key, but it gives me the same error that I need to clear the mail cache.

Likewise having this issue. It might have been there before but has definitely been a problem since Eve client crashed and corrupted all my preference files in the process. Cleaned all caches and removed all local files to no avail.

I've removed the entire game and files in the Library to do a complete and fresh install. After all that, I'm still getting the mail error. Anyone found a fix for this yet?

Have completely removed client and all settings then reinstalled 1.0.3 from scratch. Still got the same problem.

still having the issue as well after this /.3 patch. issues didn't begin until the /.2 patch. i should also note that the client seems much more unstable and when it crashes it tends to reset all personal prefs. (bookmark folders, drone groups, window placement and stacks, screen res, ect.) the crashes im getting seem to be varied in degree. sometimes just bookmark folders will disappear and other times the entire client is reset even showing me the eve intro video upon restarting the client.

Apparently if you switch to your 'Noficications' tab and then back to your 'Mail' tab again, it should clear the problem.

I got this problem now. Clear the cache does not help. Delete the wole damn cache and settings folders neither. May i ask a question? No, im to tired to ask any question from you guys in CCP. Im tired. really. Every patch just cause new problems. And i dont think so its gonna change ever. This is the EVE-Online as it is. This the CCP as it is. Im tired to say bad language as well. No i dont want.

For me I noticed that my mailbox was very full. I accessed it as normal on my main account. Deleted all the old mails and then went to empty the trash. When I emptied the trash the server suddenly lost connection and freaked out. When I reset the client I was getting these errors. I have tried the reset cache from the esc menu that the game recommends and it doesn't work. I have tried to reset all the cache files and it doesn't fix it. I have deleted and reinstalled the client and it still doesn't work.
This error is also affecting my alt character as well. I have not been able to check if the problem would affect my account on another computer as I am the only one that I know in the area who plays.
Please fix this, as it is not an acceptable situation to be permanently relying on evegate for mail on a permanent basis. Also, please tell your GMs to feel free to at least acknowledge the petition that has been sitting in game with them for the last three days. It would make me feel like someone at least cared if the paying customer wasn't getting the best performance out of their product.

have the exact same problem ... already crashed 2 times with full client reset it's a pain in the *** to reset everything from game setting to window positions .... please resolve this problem soon Congratulations ... you r now reading my signature !! |

Hey, I've got a similar issue.
It started when the game suddenly crashed a couple of hours after a new update (which, btw, ended up in the loss of a rather pricey ship that would otherwise have been preserved). After this, same EVEmail messages that you guys have been getting, although, one thing to report (which nobody else seems to have reported) is that if I receive a new mail while playing the game and I get the notification telling me I've received 1 new mail from Mal Reynolds, If I click on this notification (before it disappears) then I can read, respond and do all other things with this particular mail. However, this does not work in the case of receiving a notification about multiple emails (ie, you've received 8 new mails). Hope it helps |

OK, last night I got a disconnect when I was logged in about 30 seconds. Thirst thing I do is opening my mail, and had the same issue on my main client. Can't use ingame mail anymore now...
Is this CCP's way of pushing EVE gate? ;) |

I just encountered this error.
Perhaps coincidence, but the character just received a insurance notice after docking a pod.
The mail cache delete button fails, says to delete the mail cache. full cache delete caused it to crash. Manually deleting the cache also did not help but did get me a GB back.

This has happened to me multiple times now on multiple accounts. Almost daily my settings are completely reset. I think the settings files may be corrupted, so I keep replacing them with time machine backups. Unfortunately this prevents me from improving my settings, as I keep going back to old versions.

FWIW, if someone sends you a mail, and the little popup You Have New Mail appears in the top left of the screen, if you click on that popup, the mail they sent opens just fine (in its own window).

I have had the same issues, but only on my mac client. This is really only a PITA when I'm on the go, but it happens with both accounts that I have run on this comp. It'd be nice to know of a fix coming ASAP CCP! =(

Ok. Listen CCP. Its not just about the game. If you guys coming to my restaurant, and i have no salt since more than a week, and for example you guys payed front how would you feel yourself? Its also question of service, business, its about money. My money, our money. I dont f care its complicated or not to find where is the saltcellar. I would fix this problem, because somebody paid for a service. Are you serious? Do something, because its getting to be a brass.

I'd like to further confirm this bug; I have very recently started playing EVE, and my freshly installed client has the un-fixable mail-cache error. I have only ever used the Mac OS X client.
Blowing away settings is of no help. This affects all my characters.

if you, CCP would have not change the "skill training stop" system on the inactive account, then i would stop the payment right now. I think you should look into the mirror and think about your attitude vs supply and services. This relation getting worst and worst.

Starting experiencing this as well today on all 4 accounts.
Wiped out the EVE Preferences Folders completely, restarted EVE, Mail is corrupted.
Used Time Machine to restore EVEmail to a state prior to Tyrannis 1.0.3, corrupted.
On a whim, I fired up SiSi, same mail problems there as well.

So its looks like a server side issue. Today is patch day. It would be the least from the CCP to fix this trouble. Lets make a bet they can do it or no. I bet 10,000,000 ISK for NO but only 1000 for YES.

I think today's patch is only server side, doing the plex stuff. I wouldn't bet on any other fixes, maybe some more lag stuff which probably won't work as well (not that I really care, I hardly come to 0.0 anyways, would be suicide on a Mac)

I can confirm that using this method will fix the in game mail on the Mac client. I copied the EVEMail directory from my Crossover Games install into the Preferences folder for the Mac client, launched the Mac client, and my mail has returned.

Crossover Games is just a more polished wrapper for wine. I know there are posts here for installing the Winders client through winebottler, which you can download here:

What I am saying is, how can I copy something if I don't have an alternate install? I am not really waiting to download the windows client and installing it with some other wrapper stuff just to copy one folder.
That said, I think it is bullcrap that we'd have to find a solution like this ourselves (or, they have to find it themselves, seeing I didn't help at all :P), while CCP chooses to ignore us. No updates at all makes me sad panda :(

I've been holding off posting in here, as I thought this would have been fixed by now. This is slightly ******ed, and unfair to us. Asides from the crashing I have to put up with, I now have to put up with having to go the long way round to see my mail. As has been said above, we've just been left to fix this ourselves. No intervention from CCP to even bother to fix it, from what I've seen/heard.
But hey, what gives us the right to have a working client?

It's gettin really ridiculous now, no updates, no CCP workaround, no fix, nothing. We're second class citizens for wanting to use the OS of our choice? If they are not willing to maintain the Mac version, why not just cancel it? This is going the same route as the bugs that should've been fixed in Tyranis, but weren't. 'We have fixes but you're not getting them! HAH!'

I'd be willing to bet that these are not crossplatform problems ( thats why there hasn't been a fix yet ). The reason we haven't heard anything yet is probably because CCP is sitting there twiddling their thumbs waiting to hear from Transgaming. Don't hold your breath!

Hi. I am running into the same problem on my spanking new Powerbook. After I tried the trial offer I thought I would play eve as it seemed the best MMORPG for my lifestyle. I really have an unpredictable schedule as I am the primary care giver for my mother. The thought of training while offline appealed to me. So I got the box version and everything. But I have to say that this is pretty much a deal braker for me. Shame really.
I worked in the software field for about six years but got a Mac as I really don't want to have to be my own system ops (as I am for my MS crapola machines), and my degree is in statistics so I don't think I am that much of an idiot. I have neither the time nor inclination to invest in WINE, rappers, or whatever. The company I worked for did a half assed job for Mac ports of their products so I guess this just brings up bad memories.
I am sure I am just echoing previous posts, I suppose I am venting now, but IMHO if a development company isn't going to support MAC fully, why bother? CCP should just say they couldn't care less, for monetary reasons or some other valid excuse. I am sure most of us know how to install Windows on bootcamp. We could have done the install on there if we were not deluded by CCP. And the mail client is the least of the problems. EVE is one of the few programs that manages to lock up my system completely on a good crash.

I hope someone from CCP reads this:
I have the mail problem described. I've been reading mail with eveGate. Okay, it works, mostly. But some messages won't display in eveGate ù I get a message that they're corrupted somehow, and the only thing I can do with them is delete them.
I'm not gonna jump on the "CCP sucks" bandwagon, but regular updates as to progress (or even lack of progress) will at least let us know you're trying.

Mine just started doing this today (Mac OS 10.6). Here's hoping CCP can come up with a fix that doesn't require downloading the whole Windows client and running it in Wine before too long. |

EveMail folder is located here:
~/Library/Preferences/EVE Online Preferences/p_drive/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE/c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility/cache/EveMail
Inside there's just two empty files per characters with bugged mailfolders instead of four. If you create a character it seems to default to "bugged mail":

It seems to be possible to copy a working set of _any_ character (4 files) into place of the bugged characters files to get mail started again? Make sure you're using the right numbers for your character.
If you got no char with a working mail files set:
As CCP is failing to provide a dummy file set - try asking a friend?

This solution worked like a charm for me. It's a shame that the players have to determine the fix for things like this. At the very least a Dev could acknowledge this as being a fix and sticky it. Or something at least! But to give no feedback and leave the players in the dark is crap.

At least I managed to find a working set of files from ~/Library/Preferences/EVE Online Preferences/p_drive/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE/c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility/cache_backup0/EveMail - seems to be automatically generated backup directory of some sort. So worth checking, if you are running into this bug.

Doesn't work for me.
And as to asking a friend, why should I bother? I already reinstalled my client, which made it work for like 2 days, who's to say copying some other guys files in there will keep it working indefinitely?
Indeed, this is a dirty workaround, not a fix.

1: EVE gate is not the solution, it's a work around 2: You can't access notifications from EVE gate, which doesn't always work in-game as well 3: Nobody is digging into the client, they are playing with cache files 4: CCP knows about the problem for a while now and has given us how many updates on a solution schedule? exactly..

I have this issue also on 2 of my 3 characters. What is the fix? tired clearing cache no help.... (I believe my mail cache was corrupted when deleting emails but clicking in the mail pane, selecting all with command-A, and hitting delete.)

I've also just been hit by this problem after having been offline during vacation. I thought it could have something to do with the sheer size of my stack of unread mail... but see the issue is much more grave. CCP: Please put some pressure on your mac-subcontractors. This is a pretty critical issue for a communication intensive game such as EVE. EVE-Gate is a Work Around wich reduces the impact from nber-critical to painful, but in-game mail and notifications MUST be fixed.

I just had this happen to me. I was clearing out trashed e-mails when the problem hit - same symptoms exactly as everyone else has reported. I agree with all of the "angry" folks that this needs to be fixed by CCP on their end as soon as possible - I'm not a "computer guy", so I don't want to have to f*** around figuring out and loading Wine onto my machine to play a Windows client of this game, when CCP is advertising and selling game subscriptions to Mac users via an ostensibly functional Mac client. I agree with the person who termed this "an ugly workaround", not a solution. Up until now I've really been enjoying this game, and I hope to be able to continue to do so soon, but in order to do that this problem has to be fixed; the corp that I'm a member of (E-UNI) is huge, and the in game mail and notification system is a vital part of corp organization and functionality - without it you just can't effectively participate as a corp member, and that essentially destroys the game experience.
I think it's a reasonable expectation that CCP would be professional and responsible enough to provide the Mac community of players with at least weekly updates regarding their progress in solving this issue until it's fixed - at the very least to let us know if they're working on it. Personally, if I haven't seen or heard of any progress reports within the next week or 10 days, I'll be regretfully closing my account and writing off the whole EVE Online thing as just another bad experience with a company whose ambition for sales and revenue has outstripped their sense of duty and responsibility to to their customers. Eve Online is a great game, maybe the best MMO I've ever played, but in good conscience I will not be able to continue to funnel money to a company that does not provide adequate support to the service that they sell.

Weird. I have two (mac) laptops with Eve on. My 15" has no issues with mail on either of my accounts, the 17" has the issues that has been very extensively listed here already. Same location / modem, everything external, and the same version (of course) of Eve, and all downloaded from at the same time.
The only difference apart from dissecting machine stats is that the 15" is pre Leopard (but with Leopard on to enable Eve to run), the other machine came with Leopard installed. Coming from the same modem really stuffs the gateway settings issue possibility!
Can't unequivocally say that this issue appeared SINCE any patch either ... and both machines have the patches applied. |

I have a brand new MacBook Pro 17" with OS X 10.6.4 installed, a fresh install of EVE with the latest client, and ran into this issue. Luckily I have EVE installed via WINE on my regular machines and could copy my EVEMail folder over.

They have been on vacation for quite a while, which is likely why we have the issue.
I am not saying don't complain, but I am excited there is a Mac client in the 1st place. Wine + Eve doesn't seem fun to me.
let's all be a little more patient, they have repeatedly posted saying "We hear you" which is awesome.

does lag abit when i tab out though, but i asumming this is becuase eve is eating my i7 by itself

Just had same thing happen to me. It says connection to server lost. I relaunch eve, get the intro movie and ALL setting are gone. Now thats ALOT of work! And extremely bad if it where to happen during fleet battle etc. I also get this message: "There is something wrong with the mail cache files. Try clearing the mail cache from the ESC menu and check that the hard drive is not full".
On top of that, when I actually try to clear mail cache I get the same message("There is something wrong with the mail cache files. Try clearing the mail cache from the ESC menu and check that the hard drive is not full".)
Woot? And hard drive is not full ofc...
Been playing on mac for a long time. This is the first time it has happened. SO my Question is: WHY does this happen? FIX plz!?
