I'm checking bonuses for my Catalyst destroyer and according to the information on the ship there is a -25% Rate of fire bonus for all turrets. I installed a Light Electron Blaster I which has a 2 second rate of fire and was expecting the -25% percent bonus based on that. Instead I got a penalty that came to 2.02 seconds.
so It should look like this;
every second is divided into 100 Centi-seconds. ( everything below a second is base 10 math )
2 Seconds times 100 Centi-Seconds times .25 equals 1.50 seconds.
If the -25% is not a bonus but suppose to be a penalty then the math the game uses is STILL wrong it should be 2.50 seconds. And if it's suppose to be a penalty it should be listed in the Info for the ship as a penalty not as a " Role Bonus "
If there is anyone out there who knows EXACTLY why this is so I'd like to know. No guesses please, I'd like to here from a devoloper on this.

Are you taking your own skills into account? Rapid fire adds 4% to the rate of fire per level and gunnery adds 2% to the rate of fire per level. Also, I believe EvE concatenates some figures.
If it is a mistake, don't complain that your ship fires too fast lest CCP decides to fix it. -Xindi Kraid: Delivering acerbic wit and scathing comments with just a dash of 'stab you in the eye' |

This.
When EVE says "+25%" it's always a bonus. A ROF bonus causes the cycle to become *shorter* but it is still denoted with a positive figure, because it gives you an advantage.
When EVE says "-25%" it's always a penalty. A ROF penalty causes the cycle to become *longer* but it is still denoted with a negative figure, because it gives you a disadvantage.
Clear now?

CCP never has been good at math.
wait... fighter bombers taking up 1000x more space then light scout drones in the drone bay when they are all the same size.

First of all, rate of fire is the other way around. If a weapon takes 2 seconds per shot, it's ROF is not 2. You can either say that the ROF is 2s/shot, or you can say the ROF is 0,5. Let's go on:
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Catalyst
Penalty: -25% rate of fire for all turrets Bonus: 50% bonus to optimal range for small hybrid turrets
That means that the ROF of your Light Electron Blaster I is reduced. That means the time for each shot increases. So if nothing at all in the entire world would change anything else about the weapon's rate of fire, it would now go from 2s/shot to 2,5s/shot. But that would only be the case if you are not piloting the ship. Your character has skills and those have an effect on your weapon's rate of fire as well.

Since you always have at least some points in gunnery, you will always have further modifiers on your weapon's ROF.
