Ok, so I'm really new to this, I'm trying to do some mining for some extra isk. I've been reading some mining tutorials. I just need to know how to do some basic mining, nothing fancy. Tell me if I have these steps right:
1. Buy a mining frigate 2. Mine asteroids with said frigate. 3. Jettison ore into a can 4. Jump back and grab a industrial hauler. 5. Pick up Ore in jet can with the hauler. 7. Jump back to station. 8. Sell ore.
Am I missing anything? I'm just trying to get this straight, as all the help pages are kind of clustered with other info, that I'm sure is important, but unneeded right now. Should I equip my frig with a weapon or 2 mining lasers?
Thanks guys!

Tell people in local you're jetcan mining and I'm sure you can get someone to kill any rats that show up |

Yeah you pretty much have the process down.
Use a drone for killing rats in 0.8 or lower, other wise there are none.
Look out for players looking to steal the ore. The Drake is a Lie |

1. Buy a mining frigate and fit it for max cargo, make sure you have a drone in the drone bay (if possible). 2. Find a rock. Mine til cargo is full 3. dump ore at statoin 4. repeat.
You may run into issues with belt rats, but if you stick with 1.0 systems there shouldn't be any. Jet-can mining is not worth it due to the number of people can-flipping/ore-stealing. Shooting at them only lets them shoot at you without Concord showing up.
Alternatively, you can create a bookmark as you are warping to the belt when you are about 2000km out. Fill your ore hold with rock, fly to that bookmark, drop a can, then warp to and from that. Unless someone scans down your ship while you are at the can, they are very unlikely to find it. It lets you make short warps to and from the belt. Then, when the can is full, grab your hauler and go tot he bookmark and pick stuff up.
Just don't jet-can in a belt. It's one step forward, two steps back. Profit favors the prepared |

As others have said I would really not recommend jet can mining while you are still fresh and learning the game mechanics it is too easy for someone to steal/canflip you this way. |

Character is 14-+ months old.
Any genuine new player interested in mining will have run the industry and business tutorials and will already have received a couple of free mining frigates and a BPC for several more. |

Dont jetcan mine, when you have racial industrial III or IV and can fit expanded cargoholds train Anchoring to I and drop ore to Giant Secure Containers you'll haul in an industrial. |

How do you get that the toon is 14.5 months old when it was only created on 2012/05/14 05:22?
But yes anyone in RvB is not going to mine |

Ok, this is the way I do it, and find it the most efficient, and keeps u awake while u mine. Of course, assuming once u have enough skills and the proper ship.......
If you use a can, IT WILL be flipped sooner or later, so avoid that if you can.
I have 4 dedicated belts I mine. I set up 10 GSCs (Giant Secure Container) per belt. As I mine up the belt, I deposit my ore into the GSCs, when all 40 GSCs are full, I go back to base, grab my hauler, pick up my ore. And return to base and eventually sell a bunch of it.
In case you dont know, GSCs, as opposed to cans, are anchored, password protected, and practically indestructible. Only downside they have is they only hold 3900k. Thats why I use 10 per belt, so I get 39000k in ore per belt.
anywaz, thats the way I do it. It does keep you more active and alert at the belts, cuz u have to move every few minutes or so and change your roid targets as you move up/down the belt. Flugzeugf++hrer |

If your going to do this stock pile your ore. Do NOT refine it. Your refining yield is going to be garbage for a while untill you get refining, advance refining and individual ore skills trained.
When you sell your ore sell it in huge batches. If you join a mining corp, get a member with 99% refining yield to refine it for you.
intitially your not going to be making alot but as your pilotable mining ships get better, with your skills so will your yield and profit. Its very profitable to join a mining corp as you can get orca or even roqual bonuses if you lucky enough to be in a null sec industrial corp.
If mining turns out to be your shtick your in for good news:

If you are going to can mine, I suggest using an anchorable GSC with a password.
It takes very little skill to use them. Anchoring level 1 IIRC... which takes like 30 minutes to train.
Put some in your hauler, go dump them in the asteroid belt in a 0.7 or lower. Anchor them and set a password. You wont get can flipped and your cans will stay there until you unanchor them (I used a set of anchored cans for a month before) SEE YOU IN 319 STATION!!! WOOO HOOOO!!!!! |

Just a small correction....GSCs will go poooof if you dont access them after 30 days. So as long as you visit them at least once a month, they will always be there as long as they are anchored. The 30 day count-down will just re-set. By checking the anchored GSC's INFO, it'll tell you how many days it has left. Flugzeugf++hrer |

Thank you everyone. Also, stating that I'm a can flipper is just ridiculous. Yes, I'm primarily combat based, but that doesn't mean I don't want to try out other aspects of EVE. Also, I'm a man. Damn my toon does kinda look like a lady huh... |

One thing to remember if you do jetcan mine. Jetcans will vanish ~2h after creation. So make sure that every 1.5-2h you either empty the can into the station via a hauler or empty it into a new jetcan (less of an in issue in a Hulk filling 3 cans/hour, but a mining frigate would take many hours to fill one can, it would suck to lose 2h of mining because a can vanished). |

1) I jet-can mine...
2) Don't Jet Can in Carebear Space.
3) Mine with a friend. Preferable one with a T3 PVP fit Cruiser that is cloaked off your bow.
4) Prefer that friend be your alt running the T3 Cruiser on a second screen.
5) have an alt in a Rorq sitting in POS running full boosts so you get more or just spend less time mining.
Mine in big person space. Its safer.
Thats how you mine.
