I think one of the most boring tasks in the game just got even more boring ... to enhance your player experience.
I started building standings with a new corp, and while running courier missions I realized that they were all very long. Thought it was the low standing and LvL2 missions. Ran some LvL4 courier missions and same thing - they went from 0-3 pre-Tyrannis, to 5-7 jumps after the patch.
I then looked carefully at the patch notes found here : "Basic Courier Missions have been changed so that cargo size and travel distance is consistent between factions and agent levels."
Is this a way of saying that courier missions were whacked badly by the nerf stick?
Any way you slice it, courier missions are terrible now with long distances, large time to complete, and very low pay, even accounting for standing, mission level, and agent quality.
I just don't understand why they had to make something really boring even more boring and a big waste of time. I'm sick of transporting beef, oxygen, pistols, and tobacco anyway. Maybe courier missions should be eliminated rather than nerfed.

You could run those easily with an alt and run combats with your main. Couriers are indeed boring...that's why agents make you move the stuff instead of them. I forgot to mention that you are in fact reading something that is called a signature. |

My alt (this toon) does not need the standing. My main does. Last time I checked, standings do not translate from main to alt, so my main is stuck doing a lot of these as part of gaining standings.
But my point is that they took something boring and made it even more boring by making it take much longer to complete. Furthermore, the length now increases the chance you will sent into low sec, for a terrible reward!!!
It doesn't make sense - just get rid of them rather than making them worse.

They were nerfed because it was heavily exploited by the RMT farmers / macro farmers. Yes, they all take much longer now than pre-Tyrannis - even the Amarr ones (which was stated to have one of the longest avg). So you can imagine the hassles.
Solution? Don't do courier missions unless you absolutely have to. Adapt. Do combat missions.
P.S Don't waste your time on L1/L2 missions for standings. It'll take forever. Do L3/L4 missions. |

No, it's a way of saying that now all factions offer the same length courier missions. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

If you're looking to build up standings, take a look at this.

If you happen to find a system bordering another constellation you'll find the number of jumps isn't always that bad ;)
I suppose this must be my sig. I'll do something cool with it eventually. |

Edited by: Jenny Cameron on 04/07/2010 20:09:35 Yes stuff has become a lot larger in Caldari and Amarr space courier missions.
Since a few days I also get courier missions across 7-8 instead of 4-5 systems. Quite annoying, actually.

You can run up standing in a very short time with couriers still.
Example:
System Asrious (?) -Marketing agents (Carthium, Amarr). 4 L1, 3 L2, 2 L3. -Talk to and accept every mission from them first. -Stick it all in your indy and away you go. 9 missions completed in just a little longer than one. -Do the three storylines you will be offered every hour or so and you will have nice faction standing in just a few days.
PS don't run L4s if all you want is standing.

Asrios, actually.
This is a good system in which to build fast standing for JCs as well. The storyline agent next door in Shemah is Carthium as well so you can drag a character from neutral to +8 corp standings in just a few days.
You will not always get all agents running at the same time as some will offer mining or the rare encounter but have a look at this screenie and you get a good idea as to how fast you can develop standing. Also in this particular system, you will never get low sec missions. That's a nice bonus.
There are systems like this one in each of the empires. You just need to look for 'em.
