Visual Customization I am tired of being just other ship in the sea, and I know your are too. With the ability to change the way your ship looks then everyone can stand out.
Some Simple Idea
- The ability to change ship color.
- The ability to add decals to your ship.
- Chrome plated 125mm auto cannons(or fittings of our choosing)
- The ability to upload your own decals(very important)
Any idiot with enought time can pimp out his/her ship with hello kitty decals, Don't you want to be that idiot!

This will never happen. Think of all the extra work that the server kittens will have to do to serve up 1000 vomit inducing ships around Jita, and I'm sure you'll get the picture.
It would also spoil the feel of the game when you get podded for the fifth time by that Tempest with Justin Bieber's stupid face on the sails. That may drive some people to do a real life murder. Confucius he say, "Bugger this, I'm off for a beer" |

look in the commonly proposed idea's sticky for player made ship skin. This idea gets posted at least one a week. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

everyone would have to upload and download that customization data for every ship on the screen. resulting in more lag issues.

I dont disagree, and I dont think CCP will allow it to happen. You think the server lags bad now, itle get worse trying to load the textures, visuals of EACH ship piloted. Their server isnt ready for that. The color would work, mabye. Downloaded visuals for ship customisation, no. (Personally Id paint my Hulk hot pink and name it The Sparkly Wagon during Hulkageddon just for giggles

Personally I can't see player made skins ever happening. The way EVE works just doesn't seem dynamic enough to support it.
However and it IS a big however. I'd like to be able to customise my ships using ingame assets that already exist.
If I live in Blood Raider space, why can't I make my Apocalypse look like a Blood Raider one? Or EoM? A Geddon I can see the reason behind a "no", it'd look like a Bhaalgorn. But the Apoc/Coercer/Punisher and such I can't see a good reason why it can't just load the BR/EoM textures instead of the normal ones.

Customizing colors wouldn't add lag, it'd add one byte per color to the data transmitted.

W00T jackson, to tell the truth I kind of had "Eve for speed" in mind when I thought of this.
I also thought about the lag issue it may cause but I have full confidence that CCP are competent enough to find a fix. CCP is very good at what they do and you should have confidence in them too. A quick fix for the lag issue would be to make it a clientside option to turn such things on/off in critical times(like fleet battles)
The subject of CCP really taking action on this idea is a mute thought because we are basically just talking here as the forum category saids. If CCP checks these forums for ideas or not is more factual then a topic for conversation, so talking about it does nothing for any of us.
I have to agree that being podded by a ship costumized with hello kitty decals would be maddening but something still makes me laugh about it because in the end your typing this into corp chat "I JUST GOT OWNED BY HELLO KITTY"

Having the decals sounds great, I understand why some say its not a good idea but what if you had a place on the ship for those decals, like a placeholder for your corps logo or a personal image. The ships color sounds good also, not completely a solid color but changing the hue a bit would sound good. Also coloring or metal plating your guns would look pretty sweet in fights. I give this thread a one-up.

Edited by: Chronocalamity2 on 13/07/2010 09:06:01 A place holder is a good idea that I have yet to think about. It would make designing a bit more easier too.
As for Corp/Ally logos Those have already been discussed in another topic but I fully support that idea all the same.
Even a basic customization system would be a start at this point.
Btw I found the awesome Hello Kitty ship

This has been suggested 10000000000 times before and 890 of those times i've said the same thing:
The only way ship cutomization will ever happen is by prefabricated custom designs by CCP being made available as mission L5 rewards.
The lag induced from 45,000 people all having their own decals would be phenominal. And I do not want to encounter someone's gay pride dominix. Some people say that even prefabbed designed by CCP would create lag, but given the context of the design of the T3 (preselected modules that change the look of the ship) this argument doesn't hold water.
Being able to upload custom decals/design would ruin the atmosphere/setting of the game.
So. It's unlikely ever to happen at all, but if it does, it will be through the implementation of prefabricated designs made by CCP to ensure that we NEVER see a hello kitty starship zooming about carebearland.
