Have you got what it takes to be the king of the market? Find out now, join this exiting trade challenge and win 3 billion isk!
Base rules:
1) Participants must post on this thread the name of a NEW/UNTRAINED trade alt, the name of their normal MD character, and the FULL API of the untrained trade alt character. If you only have one account you still have to give the full API. You can enter more than one new trade character if you wish, itÆs free of charge.
2) You will start with 10,000 isk. When the race starts, every item on the regular market can be traded. Contracts are not allowed. Player donations, mission rewards and mining etc are not allowed.
This signup thread will be open for at least a week, then the race will start!
NOW LOOKING FOR: Jury members that are not participating in the hunt for prizes, but can use EMMA or similar. Your role is not to monitor, but only to judge on cheating, if and when someone is accused.
NOW LOOKING FOR: Prize donations! Cista will pay 2 bn isk to first prize. YOU can donate isk as well, I would like to have: a) 1 bn isk additional for 1st prize b) 1 bn isk for 2nd prize c) 500 mil isk for 3rd prize You can donate amounts as small as 100 mil, also if you are a participant, you can donate a small fee if you wish.
*Ghost* competitors: If you are tempted by the competition, but do not wish to share the api code for any of your accounts, you can sign up a ghost trader. I will do that myself! You can participate on the tracking board, but you will not be winning the cash prizes.

Detailed rules
Launch: The competition will go ahead only if there are at least 20 trade alts signed up. If there are less, each signed up person (not each alt) will be paid 50 mil in compensation. To curb manipulation attempts, only persons that have previously contributed to MD can participate.
Each trade alt will start with 10,000 isk. After the initial amount of 10,000 isk is reached, there will be no more donations to the character.
The only income the character may have beyond 10,000 isk is from sales of items that the character himself has bought on the regular market. Contracts are not allowed. Player donations, mission rewards and mining etc are not allowed. Training your character, and purchase and use of skillbooks and ships and equipment for hauling is allowed, and such ships may also be resold after use. BORROWING ships is not allowed and will be a bannable offense!
End of competition: A tracking thread will remain open, and Cista2 will keep it updated. Participants are encouraged to post their progress and the progress of their rivals on the thread. The first player to announce 1 bn isk in wallet wins.
A jury of 3 will decide about disqualification during the competition. After the 1 bn is reached, and if there are accusations of foul play, there is a vote among all the competitors and the jury (each person has 1 vote) to accept the winner. Second and third prices (if any) will be paid when these competitors reach 1 bn, so the competition continues for those.

How about an industrial alt, who has 1.9m SP, but no trade skills?
Hmmmmm. I note that she can fly a badger, which I presume disqualifies her.

I guess one can always make a trial account, and then race for 2 weeks before deciding what to do.
If people are planning to do something like that just before the race starts, post here and I will put your name tentatively on the list of participants. If we get enough participants the competition should start one week from now.

Maybe you could send buddy invites to competitors - so one can get 3 weeks of free time. This period may be enough, as I am sure someone will make that billion within 3 weeks :)
Not sure if this sort of thing is against the EULA. Maybe I can send myself a buddy invite?

Still debating whether to partake in this (I'm interested but I have other ventures taking up a lot of my eve-time right now) but I wanted to suggest that people send themselves buddy invites and then activated the buddy account with a plex. That way you get 30 days on your main and 51 days total on the trial. Should be more than enough time and it's completely free, you even bypass the 5$ activation fee (assuming you already pay for your main account with plexes each month. I've tested this as recently as last week.

This sounds amazingly doable. Count me in. I'll set up my account/trial just before the start.
There is no hope of winning, as (a) I hardly ever update my orders and (b) am deeply involved elsewhere. Still, I'll play for the laughs. Maybe I can earn 300m in 51 days and continue to extend my trial/account via PLEX.

Great! You can just keep the isk until the competition is well up and running - I hope you are alright with it going to first prize together with my own donation. ----------------------- "Signatures" trader chatroom / Hydra Investment Fund |

I probably got this completely wrong... but...
What stops the entered character for setting an extremely low-offer buy order, for high class goods, with an alt to 'sell' these items to the order.
For examples sake, in a deserted system, Buy order of 100 ISK on 30x Ishtars - main 'sells' 30 Ishtars - profit?

The man has a good point. I suppose you could immediately give back any donations, but what if you accidently spend some of it before you notice you got it?
Or, one could donate a large sum from an undeclared alt, "accidently" spend some of it, give back the remainder, and claim it was an opponent who was trying to disqualify you.

I haven't put down an exact date, since I wanted to see how many people were interested. But you guys of course need a date, so I will put the start date as the 20th now, so 10 days from now.
You can start training the moment the competition kicks off.

I think it is unlikely, when you are in competition mode and managing your new alt every day, that you would not notice a sizeable donation. And since everyone can see it, it would be risky business to try that trick. If you were trading with it before "accidentally" discovering it, your rivals will probably disqualify you. In other words, how would you treat such a case yourself?
Also, if someone gives your alt a sum of money, the rule will be that you give that isk to me (Cista2) and it will be added to the prize pool. So that money will be lost to whoever donated it.
Edit: if you made profit from the outside donation (before discovering it) you must cough up the profit as well. It's just a matter of handing over enough isk so that the rivals think you were not trying to cheat, then you should be ok. ----------------------- "Signatures" trader chatroom / Hydra Investment Fund |

Edited by: Samroski on 10/07/2010 07:15:16 Thinking about this, I believe subtle manipulations may be possible and very difficult to detect. I have >900 orders up via my alts and I could use one or two of these to subtly benefit my contesting alt. Even if I declare all my alts, I could ask friends for (the subtle) help.
Also to note: most potential contestants are those that have made many billions already and possibly want to play for amusement. (Though it would be nice to have newer players interested in trade, for whom the experience is likely to be beneficial)
Thus: it is best to play it fair. Have fun.

I think the most potential contestants are the ones that already made billions (or know how the market works) and are willing to invest their time, those competing just for fun wont invest nearly enough time to beat a person dedicated to winning it.
Whilst this seems like fun, its sadly enough too time consuming for me, not to mention its WAY to hot over here to sit inside all day managing orders like mad trying to get ahead of the competition xD

I'll start a fresh alt to keep the numbers up but suspect I'll be way off the pace given that I don't have access to Eve for at least 12 hours a day. and I do need to sleep during some of the rest of it.

I would enjoy participating in this, however i have no history with MD or the market essentially. If i'm allowed, this could be a great experience for me.
As a side-note.....Perhaps it would've been better to not announce a prize, without a reason to cheat, people would be far more likely to play fairly.

Hey Cista. Did we participants receive 50m each on cancellation? I may have received it and not noticed.
Was looking forward to making that first million again. It took me ages the first time around. I may invest this 50m as an investment and track where it goes.
