I think micro-transactions would be hilarious in EvE and a wonderful new source of tears.
Imagine this scenario.
Some player, sees that CCP has released some colorful new ship that you can buy for 25 dollars. Ship looks different from most designs and like most people player wants stand out from the crowed. (not really a good idea in EvE by the way). Said player has a little money to spare buys ship, buys ship yells in local... and is basically a big juicy target.
At the same time all the PvPers and Gankers, all the tear collectors see the same ship was released by CCP. And see all the possibilities for amusement. Of course they like the ship too, mostly because it will look nice on their kill board.
Said player who bought the ships starts to fly it around high sec. Doing his thing, suddenly a gang of gankers sees player... and I am sure you can imagine the rest.
By the way there are micro-transactions already in the game. You can transfer chars to different accounts. And you can swap character Portraits. Both of which are would fall under the category of micro-transactions.
Some of you guys should stand by your convictions and quit EvE.

Real life in game advertising (I want to see Quafe on in game billboards, not CocaCola).
Any sort of major publisher merger from CCP (for example CCP merging with EA or some other major publisher on a permanent basis. Contract based publications like with Atari for a limited release boxed game are fine).
Opt in PVP anywhere in Eve (aka "flagging")
Any sanctions against in game scamming, spying, backstabbing or stealing.
Excessive protection for players from scamming, spying, backstabbing or stealing (for the record, a director vote for disbanding a corp/alliance is not something I see as 'excessive')
And last but not least, if CCP ever changes their concept of Eve being a "cold, dark, harsh" game-world, I will be gone in a heartbeat.
The above...certainly.
Something that might cut deeply into my game time would be..
Elder Scrolls Oblivion (online) On a single "Eve style" server. With "Eve style" PvP mechanics. And an "Eve style" market. Including "Eve style" industry/ "crafting". And last but not least "EVE STYLE SKILL SYSTEM"

I take breaks from time to time but haven't ever quit for any length of time. To make me completely quit EVE? CCP turns off the server for good I guess.
As I see it everything CCP has done are changes not 'nerfs' or 'buffs' . . Here, sanity... niiiice sanity, come to daddy... okay, that's a good sanity... *THWONK!* GOT the bastard. Everyone has a right to be stupid, just some people abuse the privilege. |

Edited by: TSX01 on 09/07/2010 07:43:39 I already quit, let 2 of my active account run out, transfered all the important character onto 1 account, switch from paying rl money to buying plex to keep that 1 account active and just log in for training.
What made me quit is the lags, spend hours for cta fleet only ended up poded jump into system 1,2,3,4,5 times is just too much for me. While ccp is fixing the lag just like the way BP is fixing the oil spoil.
I am just not willing to give a company my money in return they are not improving it, or not improving to what the community wants. I will be back when walk in station comes out, whenever it comes out, but I am not holding my breath before 2012. In the main while, my 12bil isk in the wallet will keep the account active for years with plex.
edit. oh yeah, I will actually really "quit" when the day ccp stops allowing me to use plex/gtc for game time.

What would absolutely make me quit?
1. Micro transactions/rmt 2. Paid updates/expansions 3. Increased sub - I think EVE is already a big enough strain on my finances
What would I dearly like to see?
1. Removal of the block on concurrently training characters on the same account - we pay for the slots and its unfair to force people to be locked in to one toon imho 2. A very carefully balanced and well thought through system of allowing people to boost their skill training times by greater active participation in the game. ie. Reward grind a *little* more to encourage more people, new players especially, to spend more time in game not afk training whereby they can disppear for weeks and come back JUST as skilled as the guy who plays 2-3 hrs a day. 3. Learning skills removed entirely along with a prune of absolutely gratutitous rank 5 skills. Learning to learn to learn to play the game is one of the biggest gripes a lot of new players have. The mantra that 'eve begins at 10m sp' is quite true all said. 4. A mining buff. A t3 mining barge or a slight reduction in the skill levels required to access Ore hardware (60 days is insane for new players) given the complete disparity between running lv 4's in a 25m drake and mining for hrs on end for 5m isk or less. 5. The serious mulling of increasing the number of jump capable ships to break the gate blob disinsentive to acccess 0.0. 6. Wis of course. A lot of people I know 'dont see the point'. They tend to be the OCD/loners with no friends. The rest of us normal people would love to see a 3d audio visual representation of the economy and the chat channels. The chnce to own shops, bars etc. and spend time 'out' the pod instead of ship spinning in stations is a big big droolfest. 7. Dynamic security status systems. Basically I would make all low sec mutable to encourage greater diversity of trade routes etc. Also more people in low sec and null sec by making it slightly (only slightly) less blob tastic.
Lots more but I got to say .. finally .. Since I started EVE in 2009 I have seen an explosion of content. Sov, Rigs, PI, Jump Clones etc. What other game has this level of detail added every year? I am genuinely blown away by the consistent and, although not always glitch free, improvements EVE has seen in my short tenure. Consequently it can only keep getting better - which is truly something unique in the world of money grubbing MMO blandness that everyone else endures.

/facepalm
ask yourself:
why is the income from mining so low? because minerals are cheap why are minerals so cheap today? because supply is very high why is supply so high? because of bots and people who mine regardless of mineral prices what would the introduction of a low SP/high yield mining ship do to supply? bots just got a lot cheaper, mineral supply skyrockets what's the likely effect on mineral prices? mineral prices crash.
how are miners going to profit from the introduction of said ship? maybe they will finally realize that trying to compete with bots is not such a smart idea in the first place.

Thats a disingenous reply mate. Most mins in game come from reprocessed mission loot. Why is everyone running missions? Because its 5 times more profitable than mining.

I have quit and returned a few times... Generally it's the community that drives me off.
You really really need the community to play EVE. Most of the things you do ingame take a lot more time than they do in other games; WoW rewards you for 10 minutes of effort, whereas in EVE you better be prepared to invest at least an hour to do something right (although admittedly, the reward is greater as well). The thing that makes investing so much time into EVE worthwhile is the fact that your actions can have a real meaning. That you are doing this to further the goals of your corporation, to win a war, and so on.
However, if I do not feel like helping my fellow players? Because of all the name-calling, the metagaming, the crudest of crude humor, the self-styled elitism, the ceaseless trolling for no other reason than because you can, the craptalking about your own alliance mates behind their backs, and the general lack of helpfulness to anyone who you haven't known for years already?
That really kills it all for me, and has repeatedly. Because honestly, there is no group in EVE that does not do this. None. I have seen more than enough after all these years. The words "we only recruit mature people" really only stands for "we want corpmates who can laugh about racist jokes without their parents coming to complain". EVE by its very design as an anonymous sandbox brings out the absolute worst in people, and I have little desire of lowering myself to that level.
Usually I quit for around half a year and then come back when enough new features have piled up to make the game worth discovering again.

1. no other mmo lets you "level" multiple characters concurrently on the same account. You can start as many as you like sure but, for example, in wow you can't log in twice and level two chars at the same time.
2.Firstly, this isn't wow. Secondly, the guy that's been playing for 2 hours a day while his skills tick up will be more skilled than the newbie that afked the skills. There's a difference between sp and player skill.
3. I can't even be arsed with this any more.
4.A T3 mining ship or buff to the speed you can get into a T2 mining barge will just lower the price of ore further. What you need is an approach that reduces material aquisition from non mining sources.
5.What? Capitals have jump drives and some special T2's that's the way it is and should be, support ships should get to randomly jump.
6.walking in stations is hoakum, it's a gimicky addon that they need to write for another game and we're their testbed. This isn't "the simms"
7.Dynamic security status is a double edged sword. Firstly it'd need a total rewright of some core code and given how they couldn't make sov upgrades effect asteroid belts I doubt they could impliment it. Secondly, I like the idea that empire pulsates and changes with rat\mission activity but then mission runners would scream if their lvl 4 agent up sticks and moved to a 0.4 because everyone had managed to raise his 0.6 to a 1.0.
Ultimatly though, read more, talk less
