This new experience your having, you know, communicating and get involved with the players on the forums, is good and a refreshing change from the years of silence. Be nice to see more of those blue and red icons on more posts however, see we dont bite, dont be shy, we welcome you into our family.

You can bet we will be keeping it up and we will bring you information on what is going on just whenever we can. I realize a lot of people are concerned that there are a lot of blue bars but not very much information. Like CCP Zulu states in his blog, we are changing a lot of cool stuff here in CCP and that is down to making sure we listen to you guys and aim towards providing you the best possible EVE experience.
The Community team, along with other developers and GM's, will be here on the forums reading your questions and trying to get answers to those we can. It is important to note that we cannot answer every question or spoil big announcements by posting too early.
So how are you all doing this fine Friday? CCP Navigator - Lead Community Representative |

my concerns arnt about teh blue bars, its about the lack of actual information, your not even talking to the csm about your blogs. so what are these changes? thats what we want to know, not watch this space. details are what is needed. if i had a euro for everytime one of you guys posted soon or it will be awesom, id be rich but we still would have a broken game CCP-áare full of words and no action. Fantastically Fabulous, since it *is* a Friday.
Also, I will echo the sentiment that it is great to see devs posting a lot, and giving what (little) info they can.

Talk is cheap as promises, by their nature, do not actually deliver anything of value, they only create expectation of valuable delivery. Actual work has to be done to provide worth. But interactive communication is the path to a better community as well as a better EVE. There cannot be much meaningful communications between on us an issue we do not give you information on.
It is rather hard for us to juggle those two sides of disclosure at the moment. Say too much too early and we cannot deliver everything we promise, at least not at the time promised, if we run into unforeseen issues. Say too little and we look like we're hiding something or that we're trying to bury issues and discussions as well as it robs us of valuable time to react to community input. I'm not sure if there's a proper way of going about this but that's cool: I'm a programmer, my job is the database.
As for my code-monkey opinion: I hope we're not going to start promising anything until we know what we're delivering or at least that we take it slow and don't promise the world to start with and then start cutting corners. I am confident that I am both not the only one of that opinion nor is that the only opinion. I'm also confident that there are people of vehemently disagree with me but that's bound to happen whenever I post on these forums.
In closing I'd like to wish my coworkers that actually have to solve this conundrum the best of luck. But I'm going to continue posting here in any topic I can contribute to as a person and/or a CCP programmer. ~ CCP Prism X EVE Database Developer "Prism X is my first world problem." ~ CCP FLX If anything in this post was informative or could be considered as 'good news' to you - chances are you've misread it. |

thanks for a straight view point. can i get my euro for each past promise now? pls
its the end of september, expansion is what 3 montsh away. and not knowing what you can for sure produce in that time is a worry, but its a side worry really. my biggest worry is the state of the game currently. pos's, corp interface/roles, sov, scaps, etc etc etc. to many of my eve friends have left, i worry more will leave or worst still the ones that have left wont come back.

And what is the problem with failing to deliver something you have talked about? You're going to get hell from some (read, a lot of people) but its not something your playerbase is unfamiliar with.
I'd rather have you failing to deliver promised content like "Dominion II" then have you deliver something which was not discussed with your playerbase like the $80 monocle, new turret icons, removal of ship-spinning, and other ideas that would have been shot down in a ball-o-fire if talked about. Now CCP has to spend resources rectifying most of that.
Want an example? The new overview icons. You proposed them, we saw them, they sucked, you scraped them.
I understand that some things might still be at the planning stage and you haven't showed these things to tech people like Prism X to know if they are doable or not. But as soon as you get the "Yeah, we can do it" you should talk about it BEFORE commiting resources to actually getting it done.
It IS as simple as that. |

Excellent feedback.
Its really a debate between "Under Promise and Over Deliver" or "Over Promise and Under Deliver". As PrismX said, they both have their drawbacks, and with how the EVE community is (well, the forum community is mostly whining and complaining, interspersed with some intelligent sane thoughts), you're kinda screwed both ways from CCP's perspective.

Show me an MMO free of bugs, I will show you an obsolete game without any players. It is nigh impossible to program a game as complex and dynamic as an MMO without bugs. Heck, most console or single-player PC games ship with bugs, and they go over those games like crazy (due to limited ability to patch bugs). By the time an MMO expansion can be released bug-free, it would be obsolete and most players will have left the game due to lack of new content. |

i understand that soem bugs will slip through Q&A and be fixed post patch, but some of these bugs they have had 5-7 years to fix. and guess what they havnt.
i dont think the current state of the game is about bugs(well for me it sure as hell isnt) its about half finished expansions, pi, incursions, dom. that was put out in a rush with most of the good bits cut. for me its also about all the bad mechanics that havnt been touched in years, pos's corp managment, roles etc etc etc.
i can live with bugs(done so for nearly 7 years) i cant live with half finsihed features and broekn mechanics CCP-áare full of words and no action. We watch what they do and its nothing but false statements and lies.

Be nice to see more of those blue and red icons on more posts however, see we dont bite, dont be shy, we welcome you into our family. Keep it up... This... because sharing information, ideas and feedback back and forth is constructive way to improve EvE experience even that wouldn't be the actual goal. It will bring active people closer to the pot where things are cooked and make them feel that stuff is taken care of. People who know what is happening have more patience than someone who doesn't even know how long he has to wait.
Example: Drone bug Current status: Long overdue, 5-10 threads of complaints, plenty of bug reports. Current updates: 1 post from CCP Grayscale
Problems: - Players do not know is there someone fixing this atm. - Players do not know the status of the possible fix or have any estimation about when they could expect one. - Players do not know should they keep posting more complaints to get this issue under some action. - Players do not know does someone need more information to understand what the problem is. - Players do not know from where to ask above questions to get answer as forums haven't really provided it. - Players get pissed after writing about same thing 3+ times and not getting any real updates.
Now... if the dev who is fixing this would actually post to some (maybe new) subforum about "drone bug", he could ask questions about it directly from players and give updates directly to players. If we roll few months back and think about the keyboard shortcut fiasco, that could have been fixed in no time if the information had just gone thru. Forum was filled with posts how to do it right but for some reason even today it still isn't perfect. Usually we talk about small issues, which would be easy to fix if the actual guy who does the work would have all the information he needs.
Anyways just some thoughts again... I may be wrong and if you disagree, it usually means that you're somewhat wiser than me - wouldn't be the 1st time and definately not the last :) Forum fix for firefox and chrome Get working images and colored text Classic forum style 2.25final |

So... when do we get ANY information with substance?
In my family we have a tradition. We get to open just one present on Christmas Eve. It whets the appetite and stirs the excitement of things to come in the morning. It holds the little ones over and gives them something to dream about and look forward to, so they don't jump on mom and dad's bed at 4am.
CCP Zulu, can you give us just one little present today?
I look forward to the words of substance I hope are coming, yet I reserve my excitement until we see your actions.
The truth is CCP, I'm getting tired. The game is falling asleep, and taking the players with it. -á"Sanity is the playground of the unimaginitive."-á-- Anonymous "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over-áagain expecting different results."-á-- A. Einstein |

That metaphor was deep and, actually cute. But you do realize that, if they give out one thing, the partisans of everything NOT mentioned at that moment will go ape poop, right? Fact is, at this point it is impossible to do mostly right and still get a consensus from the community.
I wish we got some meat now, I'm eager... but I'll wait and hope... |
