This one is Regarding forums. We all know that eve-online forums has a lack of discipline and respect towards each other - well most...not all.
"what if" CCP decided to display either A. Their real names B. Their main, most used, character.
What would happens ? Will civility increase ? Will discipline and respect increase ? ----------- at first i was like and then i was like and then we got to the shower scene and i was like and then i was like |

No, the number of EVE Subscribers would cut in half due to a string of unsolved homicides. [url=http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/combat_record.php?type=player&name=RatKnight1][/u |

Also you won't have a house cause the scamers yill know where you live.

So it would display the fake names people put in their name fields? I suspect it won't make much difference compared to what's show now...

Edited by: Ti''anla on 22/07/2010 14:15:30 If only this wouldn't cripple the playerbase, I'd be all for this. I'm sure it could be done safely in some partial way, but even that'd make the typically reactionary players freak.
Ah but for the reduction in trolling prats and screaming morons..
Certainly, I wish Blizzard had gone ahead with their RealID plans; WoW's much less vulnerable to the problems might arise than most MMO's (let alone EVE), it has more money to risk on these things, and the internet would have some experimental data as to what happens when it's tried on which to base whether they wanted to try something similar.
Oh well..

How many have *honestly* used their own REAL name when signing up for EVE (or any other game for that matter)?

Um... I for one would still call people ***gots if they were acting like one.
This is my main and I rarely post with an alt, although my alts are easy to spot. --

Like I've said so many times before, forcing people to display their real names is the best thing that could EVER possibly happen to a game forum. I sincerely hope CCP goes forward with it.

Yeah it's not like you use a credit card to sign up for the game which requires you to enter your name to match the one on the card

A. You'd get a huge problem with privacy laws B. Most people do this, some are not allowed to not make an ass out of their corp/alliance in the process of brainfarting.
I have probably made a few comments that you would deem unrespectfull or a lack of discipline, tho in my eyes they wherent. See where I'm getting at ? We'd end up in another endless morals and ethics debate.
On a side note, you can have all my 'private' info, except for passwords and pin codes. I couldnt care less to be honest, and it wouldnt change a thing about what I say and how I formulate it.
There are forum rules, they are being enforced by CCP, you can report offensive posts, end of story really. ========================== Nothing is true, everything is permitted. ========================== |

Much as the people on the WoW forums found out, there would be a huge backlash from the player base in regardless to identity privacy.
Hundreds would mail the ESRB to protest the policy, CCP would back down as to not take the focus of ranting off there 18 month hiatus,Incarna, lag etc etc.
Then in a stroke of either malice, laziness or conspiracy the ESRB would CC everyone that mailed them stating they would endeavor to protect the gaming community's personal info, "unintentionally" exposing hundreds of private emails to the general public. Leading to another epic /facepalm.
TLDR: It already almost happened. ------------------------------------------------ Whatever is worth living for, is worth dying for.

You running for forum moderator or something ? You added this stupid comment to a lot of topics, and seem to forget that this game is played in different timezones then yours as well ... and besides, noone wants to know if YOU think it has been answered...
If the OP says so, or a moderator declares it closed for whatever reason is when it is no longer necessary ========================== Nothing is true, everything is permitted. ========================== |

I think a moderator can ban Ghoest now, nothing he says is of any importance.

Did I say it was against the rules ? I tried to let you know it's kinda annoying to see the same copy & paste statement inserted everywhere. But sure, go ahead if it makes you happy.
