Edited by: marewin on 22/07/2010 14:25:16 Hi,
I play EVE Online with my MBP(10.6.4) . In game i have the lowest graphic settings and the game runs smooth without problems. For the third time in a couple of weeks i've encountered flickering screen and big pixels over the screen after some times playing (can be all from after 1hr playing to after 3-4 hrs playing). If i shut down the program, the same symptom exists at the desktop and the dock. TechTool Delux says that VRAM- FAIL. I restart the computer and its all fine again, techtool says VRAM passed.
Though this problem comes again (randomly?) when playing, could go days without it to encounter, I have not managed to push the computer to fail like this in any other program. This computer should handle eve without problems.
I have also tried the Hardware test (long one) took 2 hrs and showed no wrong with my computer. Support blames the game itself- is the game the problem?
Tips, ideas- have you encountered the same problem? All help appreciated.

It looks like your laptop is overheating. Place your laptop away from the sun, ensure proper air flow, use smcFanControl to increase the speed of your fans. --

Edited by: marewin on 31/07/2010 13:54:08 I installed smc, it works fine and does definately keep my laptop cooler. Ive also made space under the computer so air could stream through. Temp is ~40ŚC when desktop sitting, and between 60-65ŚC while gaming. Had eve open for 2 hours now, scanning plexes. I can feel with my hand that the laptop is cooler, still it happened again.
I dont think its the game who's messing, but support wont help if i can't force this behaviour to be cause by something else than eve online gaming. To be added also is that VRAM test now says pass even though the screens all pixelish

If EVE does it then any intensive graphics application will do it. But it might not do it whilst sat at the Genius bar (fortunatley right at the end of my appointment my fan did its trick and the MBP started jiggled around the table). However that shouldn't prevent them from taking the machine in for a bench test.

I've been in contact with the Apple store who sold me the computer. Im not the first with this problem and they suspect it's a hardware issue. They will take care of my computer and hopefully it will fix the deal.
Thanks for all replies
