It is an RTS,but blizzard have always been known for kickass intros for years now....They actually have their own dept for it and have put over 100 million developing Starcraft 2 since 2007.
Can you imagine if an RPG version was made though?....Dust 514 would have a tough time against this for sure.

Great trailer for a game I'll never buy. Please ensure your signature is within the allowed size of 400 x 120 pixels with a maximum file size of 24,000 bytes. Navigator |

Despite the insults they(Blizzard Entertainment) get from people on MMO forums that are not WoW related.
Blizzard across all three of their brands has what are likely a good number of the top artists in the industry.

Dust is more like a combo of FPS and RPG,since it's not just the question of killing other soldiers in the opposing team, but also either defending or attacking/destroying installations that belong to pod pilots who are up in orbit too,so there's role playing elements too....The soldier is part of a bigger picture and his/her performance affects how events unfold too.

I dont think it could possibly be more cheesy even if they hired a cheese salesman as their script writer, its like cliche line after cliche line.

True, some of the dialog is cheesy, but Starcraft has a hell of a storyline to begin with....Even today, there's still plenty of hard core starcraft players playing the original game, and that was released about 13~14 years ago.

Starcraft should have had a movie based on it and not Starship Troopers. Starcraft has a far superior plot and universe to set a movie into.
that said i loved Starship Troopers for a good ole switch off the brain plotless violence, alien bugs and shoulder fired nukes.

I picture DUST having a lot in common with MAG on the PS3

You can either have a very successful game or movie, not both

With the amount of first person shooters on the market as it is,and likely even more of them by the time Dust is actually available,i have a feeling it'll get lost in the woods to be honest,as we already have battlefield bad company 2 on consoles, and destructible environments rock, there's Crysis 2 coming up in september~october, and sometime in 2011,id software's rage game, using their latest graphics engine, which the game has been in development since 2004.
So dust 514,using the not that cutting edge UT3 engine(it was a few years ago),might only interest those that also play,or have played in the past, eve online and know it's storyline, because when isolating it for it's FPS experience exclusively,i think it'll be hard to make it standout from the rest of the FPS games out there,or even match the latest crop from developers who have more experience in making FPS games(id software and dice and infinity ward on the top of that list).

Mecha suits missing though, and they were in the starship troopers comic book..
Sending foot soldiers against bugs is suicide,as the movie clearly showed...

Pretty much this. I started laughing about halfway and couldnt watch it till the end unfortunately. Maybe it looks good but TBH it was way too overcliched (if its even a word) and GFX wise... there are better pieces out there already (plus personally didnt like it that much either).

Edited by: Cyprus Black on 23/07/2010 05:42:35 Nice visuals, but does anyone really give a damn about the starcraft story? Regardless I'm not buying the game. Neither are my friends.
No lan play, campaigns must be purchased separately, and RealID? To hell with that. Those flaws are too big to overlook. ___________________________________ "In the land of predators, the lion does not fear the jackal." -Dexter |

Well, considering Warhammer 40k is where Starcraft was mostly inspired from in the first place... By the way, the game itself, at least the singleplayer ? Minor letdown. I'm talking DoW, in case you might have thought something else. Ditto for the expansion, at least it was somewhat more entertaining to "go darkside" there. Story was in both cases awfully short and clichTd, and the "twists" weren't really that much of a twist at all. And talk about gameplay, this "squad" thing felt like I was playing a freaking arcade game or one of the web-flash tower defense games, not a RTS (well, technically, it's not even a RTS, since it's not really strategic but tactical). Meh.

I've never heard this ever before. No one plays the original Starcraft today because it "has a good story".

I didnt play DOW2 myself, hated the concept of squad-based-gameplay. As for DOW1 it was IMO kinda decent but also few minor annoyances (close combat was suckish, "rebalance" patches every now and then which screwed up whole armies etc) but at least looked better than DOW2. Storyline - cant really remember but i guess clished to maximum as whole 40k universe is :)
As far as intros go: DOW1 into was also quite good (shows its age tho) but i liked how it was designed. Short, bloody, shows how 40k looks like as a tabletop game.
