I was flying back to the station I call home when I saw 4 Guristas outside. This was in .5 space. I'm not sure if this is a bug or what but I though I might as well drop it here

General rule: If rats are in odd places, kill them, they might be special. --

It's fairly common overall but still cool to see. I also remember when missions used to spawn on the same grid as stations and stargates Signature locked for inappropriate image. Zymurgist |

Yeah I've had this happen in high sec and 0.0. Same with rats on gates in high sec. Quite unreachable too

Someone stretched the Grid, that's all there's to it really. NPCs hang sometimes at gates in low- and zero-sec space.

Corpmate once told me that belt rats sometimes follow you into warp. If someone was in a belt and warped to the station, the rats may have followed him there.
Never had this happen myself.

Nope, at least not in the last year or so.
They do however spawn at belts, gates, stations and control towers, even in highsec. With increasing sec status this becomes much rarer, but still possible. I've never seen them on planet warpins or customs offices, but it is possible that they can spawn there too.
What I would like to know is what causes the occasional rat spawn about 50,000 km (yes km, not m) away from a belt/gate. ___________ EVE is dying! Now for real! |

He was guessing (worth noting it's not entirely wrong*). Rats occasionally spawn off from where they intended to, simple as that.
*What does happen however is when someone warps to a belt, the rats aggro them, and the person then aligns to something else and warps out, the rats constantly MWD out in this direction. Usually this is negated by the despawn (or "Relocation") timers. Could be where at least a fraction of these cases come from in systems with a small space between a belt and the off location spawn.

would be Ihakana
and yes, used to be a bug where the rats from belts would follow you and spawn in other places. Not sure if it still does, but I've seen rat spawns on Stations, in Safespots and outside POSes (before being vapourised by the POS Guns)

Confirming this is actually common. Though I must admit I never thought to pop them and see if they had special stuff. Trolls? In my EVE forums? It's more likely than you think...

Recently when repping POS mods we also had a bunch of NPCs spawn at the moon.
