Everybody loves kill mails! The more you have or the bigger the thing you killed adds to the impressiveness of the achievement itself. But what about padding your kill board with rookie kills?
I have noticed some people with an impressive amount of kills but then I will find most of them are rookie ships like velators. Is this a new fad?
Do these guys walk into a juice bar and sit down next to a hot girl. Then say something like "Hey sexy, my kill board is 20% velator kills. Wanna come back to my mom's place and listen to some linkin park?"
I mean really, who is impressed by that? I see these types, they run like hell away from anything larger then a navitas and talk plenty of smack when there is nobody around except noob ships.
The quote "loud as a motor bike, but wouldn't bust a grape in a fruit fight" comes to mind when I think of these vultures.

I am just makeing the point that bragging about a velator killmail is bad for the ozone. "My name is legion, for we are many" |

Your Velator and Pod are in my kills.
Flying a rookie ship and asking to be left alone in Sov 0.0?
Come on, obviously you are a troll/spy alt.
And, FWIW, Rookie Ships and Pods don't make "counted" kills in our Killboard, so the only reason you exist is because I am supposed to post everything...

Personally, I say more power to the rookie ship popping pirates. When I was new and had no idea what I was doing, I lost loads of frigates being stupid. The frequency of these ship losses made me say "Hmm... maybe something is wrong with the way I'm playing." These pirates aren't jerks, they're educators. Somebody give them an apple!

tbh I haven't noticed this exact thing... but the other day I hada slightly lulzy experience along this same vein.
I was bored, so I got ahold of a Velator and threw a blaster, scram, 2 hobgobs and a EANM on it and went out to can flip. I happened across a belt where I saw a noob mining away in a Navitas, with a ten (10!) day old toon in a Cyclone harassing him by bumping. "Ten days old and in a BC" I thought. So I flew over and popped a can. The BC just sat there, then slowboated towards the sun or something. I flew along side it and after a bunch of km, I popped out another can. No takers.
I then get an evemail from the Cyclone pilot saying that he knew I was a "t2 player" (???) and so he won't fight me in my Velator. WTF evar.

Where I live, we shoot at anything that moves. Be it a dread or a nub ship. The number of kills of each type is determined by the number of ships people bring into our systems. So basically I couldnt care less about killboard stats as long as I just have fun.
I will however agree that bragging about rookie kills is lame. But then again, who cares as long as you just have fun yourself?

I just find it more fun to see noobships get blown up just by their own doing..
The other day I was mining with an alt and a corp member was a bit bored and picked up a destroyer to salvage a few wrecks I made and other miners made... a 1 day old char came in and tried to pick up the wrecks but wasn't able to as they were tractor beamed away from him :) Then he shot the destroyer...
POP... bye bye :P He docked in his pod and disappeared out of local... ------- Always a deeply religious people, religion remains of great importance to every Amarrian, a fervour which at various times has been responsible both for great good and great evil. |

Killing and pdding nubships in losec is mostly a waste of time as almost all of them are no cost alts who have set their home stations at most one or two jumps away. Kill them and they're back in 5 minutes (and do it often enough and chribba gets jealous because of the free trit they're getting!).
That said, Eve would be a better game if nubs were given a pvp and game mechanics tutorial in addition to the pve stuff they now get. How CCP would get that to work is beyond me, but they make the game and they want the player retention rates.

Nobody cared before everyone started to use killboards.
..and since we're on this age-old topic, let's bring up pods as well. Why does most killboard not count them as 'real kills'? Alot of people fly with implants, and I dare to say that the average podloss is worth more than the average, say, t2 frigate kill.
Then again, if we had no killboards, noone would care. - I'd tell you why but then I'll have to kill you. And to kill you I'd have to log in. And to log in I'd have to stop browsing these forums. Both you and me knows that'll never happen. |

You all make very good points but I must say that there is a difference between being goal oriented and commited to a given objective and being just plain antagonistic.
Doing something just because you can is not a sign or a sophisticated player in my book. A player that dose something because of the benefits to himself or others is going to go far in eve.
You have alot of players that think the end all and be all of eve online is camping a gate in null sec with a tech 2 frig and a few blue balls.
It is not so much "what" you do but "why" you do it that matters to me at least. You can do something that most players would say is extreamly stupid and pointless but if your reason for doing it is because it helps you further your agenda in some way then more power to you. |

agree.
out of curiosity: how does mispelling 'extremely' help you further your agenda?

but holy cogwheels are they tiny. Can barely fit anything good into them. Granted I did manage to smuggle several million isk worth of tech 2 loot from kbp to dital in a velator.
I can't wait till CCP releases Marcabian Issue Ship BPOs or a mechanic that allows for vanilla ships to be upgraded to marcab issue.

Edited by: Alazontez Gallenteur on 30/07/2010 17:54:49 @ OP, people still kill them depending on the person and the situation.
Personally, I don't generally pop them in lowsec unless I've confirmed they are hauling something valuable. They aren't worth the sec hit, too many other fish out there that are. In a war however, I've popped countless rookie ships, because most often I was paid to target said corp, they are in said corp, regardless of what they are flying they are a target and thus have to be eliminated. If by some chance I have aggro on an actual noob in highsec flying a noob ship, I'll pop it. Its a free lesson for them and free exposure to the harshness of this universe.
If I was part of a 0.0 alliance, you better damned well believe I would pop every noobship and pod that came into our claimed space. That's one more scout, one more set of eyes for the real enemies.
Just my two cents, but what do I know.

I agree with you entirely. my issue is with the people that won't risk attacking a rifter or a cruiser in null sec gate camping because they are too afraid to die. But they will always shoot noob ships. |
