1. Consistent, flawless game behavior
I understand fully and well that there are limitations to how for instance lag can be fixed. It is bound by architectures not under the control of CCP (such as routers, etc.) - but when the matter of fact decline in performance since a patch or two ago, it has to be related to programming. The same thing applies to the machinery in which players are connected to the EVE-online world with, namely the user interface. How this hasn't been a priority is beyond comprehension. How a UI-designer can place 'Trash' next to repackage is unfathomable.
2. Incentive to explore
The diversity in EVE is enormous, it is truly a sandbox. But why is everything available everywhere? And why are there not specific rewards related to certain areas of space? Before you mention different type of rats, which I believe are a triviality; I'd like to add: significant differences. Under this topic could be listed: differences between low-sec and high-sec, differences between Amarr space and Gallente, or just plain differences between the assets available in a certain location, more than just ice, rats, and differently shaped stations. The experience of doing something in certain solar systems should be significantly different AND significantly rewarding, be they low-sec, 0.0, wormholes and high-sec. Or doing faction warfare, planetary interaction, pvp, pve, trading, pirating, et cetera. Give the player a motive, a desire to travel and explore the diversity. Do not feed the lazy.
3. The game design and additional content Adding content that fulfills the above two criteria should be done AFTER the current content is fixed. I strongly believe that while adding content is fun, having USEFUL, functioning content is what keeps players interested in the long run. If you log on in your sovereign space and find that you cannot play the game because of game-mechanics and lag frustration. You will not be a long-time customer. The developers behind Conan realized this a year late. And had tons of subscribers for one month.
And a plead to CCP: Please do not furthermore ruin this game which I've grown to love, and recently be very frustrated with. Not because the content isn't there, but that it's as if Minmatar built it, with duct tape and a "it'll hold out another month" mindset.

1) close down the forums so the highly vocal minority has no voice to influance the fate of the silent majority for the sake of their self serving e-peen.

If those three issues are dealt with then eve will probably rise to the status of the best mmo evah in the etire history of mmo!

Considering the direction CCP is going in (i.e. money hungry faceless corporation) and who the silent majority is (Casual bears): No thanks, I don'r want another WoW clone.

If you really think eve is going the wow clone route then you need to actually log in and play sometime instead of just whooring the forums and listening to the spinmeisters wax poetic about selfish crap.
Lets face it guys. The forums have always been the playground of the vocal minority except when something truly idiotic happens like the proposed mothership changes that actually had real players from ingame making comments in threads unlike the normal activity of part time players lulzing it up to satisfy some personal grudge because ccp nerfed thier trillion isk afk empire mechanics.

Really, that is your answer? COMPLETELY REMOVE all form of feedback to CCP other than what they see in bug reports and petitions? Please, for your own sake, put the crack pipe down.

If no one ever complained it certainly would turn into WoW as it is. Lag -> every PvPer quits -> The only ones who need to be appeased are the bears and future bears, WoW in space.
I love how you think the proposed mothership changes were in any way more important and more of a real issue than the complete code ****ed to ****, CCP not giving a damn situation we're currently in.

I would have loved to have a dockable mommy!
Besides I was being sarcastic as 99% of the crap that gets the new topic treatment is self serving drivel and you know it. That proposal for the mothership changes was simply ccp trolling the players just like the players like to troll ccp when something doesn't go their way. So boo muthafrakin hoo you got your feeling hurt you special snowflake you.
But do I really want the forums to close down? Of course not as that would deprive me of so much legitimate fun at others expence.

Need a bloody sarcasm tag in the forums
Dockable moms, blech. Don't fly one, never will.
Why is it so wrong that a minority is vocal? A silent minority is worse than a silent majority; the minority is easier to ignore.

I have stayed out of the whole ranting business so far, but given the relatively productive OP I decided to add my two cents for a change.
The OP is right that CCP needs to enhance the existing game in order to keep it viable in the long term. Players are willing to forgive certain flaws in a game, as long as they feel that there is a commitment to to continued and dedicated improvement. That feeling is quickly ebbing away.
Even though the focus of the criticism is clearly on lag at the moment, the real issue is a sense that CCP have lost focus with respect to the core EVE mechanics. They seem more concerned with new projects than building on this incredible game they already have.
DUST is a very clear example of this. Dust a ridiculous gamble, and one that has very few, if any, benefits to EVE players, even if it turns out to be succesful. The argument that DUST profits would eventually benefit CCP and thus EVE is flawed; if Dust turns out to be a success, more money will be spent on new, similar projects, not on EVE. It is naive to think that "CCP growth" automatically means "EVE growth". The larger a company becomes, the less it is attached/dependent to individual projects, and the easier it pulls the plug or reduces investment in them.
Incarna is a different matter. It might turn out to be a real and positive addition to EVE gameplay, bringing in new players and enhancing the overall experience. However, it will only work if CCP continues to (significantly) enrich the experience of the already existing EVE mechanics. And that's where they have a less-than-stellar track record of late.
Lag, FW, missions, low-sec, the horrible interface, the bounty system, corporation mechanics, sovereignty, ship design, exploration, etc., are all things that could use a lot of love from CCP. If Incarna means that they will all be neglected for years to come, then CCP are taking another outrageous risk with a wonderful game, concept and community they have build up over the years.
EVE has been succesful because it has always focussed on dedicated, gradual improvement which allows for a deep and rewarding gaming experience, thereby creating a loyal community. This is unlike many other MMO's that were all hype but without substance. Hopefully CCP will not stray from their original model.
PS Given that this is my first post on the matter, and that I'm not involved in fleet battles and have not experienced lag-problems myself, I guess I would be part of the "90% silent majority". It's a mistake to think that the "silent majority" disagrees with everything that the "vocal minority" posts, it's just that they (we) don't care enough to post. Instead, they (we) just unsubscribe after a while.
