..should ignite when the ship goes nova and fire in random directions damaging other ships nearby.
Well, that's my idea.

Well, I guess it shouldn't work with bombs then.

Yeah, that'd be nice
I'd fill my bestower with EMP L (about 12k m3 of EMP L) and it would do 480k damage total to random targets around me if each EMP round did 1 damage each.

Sorry dude, you can't descriminate.
(See: Halifax Explosion)
In reality this could happen tho.
mmm Iteron Mark V with 12000m3 of POS fuel. The remaining space will have tourists and metal scraps (shrapnel)

How would that work with the existing aggression rules? Would the blast only hit those you were at war with or could "legally" damage or would it hit everyone? If it hit everyone, would you lose standing and would everyone destroyed by your blast wave get kill rights on you?
This would be the ultimate grief tactic. I'd sit on Jita gate or station and wait for an industrial full of ammo to come by. After I suicide gank him, the resulting explosion would rip apart tens of ships which my buddies would come and loot.
You should really think about the repercussions of your suggestions before you post them. If you still think this is a good idea, then you should tell us exactly how you see it working with the current iteration of EVE.

I was kind of thinking this would be a 0.0 thing.

In that case it would be fairly interesting and lead to the development of a whole new tactic. Although, in the end, I still think there's a lot of potential to abuse a feature like this.

If an idea has rather obvious issues in game design, griefing potential, side effects and so on, it mostly shows that the one proposing the idea did not put much thought and / or work in his idea or does not have much knowledge about the game / the area of the game his idea would affect. That is why most people will not take the idea very seriously and rather point out / troll the obvious flaws.

Sorry Jenkins, but you need to put a little more thought into your ideas if you want them to be taken seriously. I mean your whole idea post was 20 words.
Plus, if you have to keep adding caveats in like;
Oh, it wont work with bombs, Oh and, it should be just 0.0 Oh and, maybe only with something else....
It really does not sound like a well thought out idea.
Too many people post ideas without thinking how other people will use their idea.... what effect it will have in the varuous different sec-space.... or how it will effect other peoples play styles.

Didn't this used to be the case? Selfdestructing the ship would blow up the ammo too, damaging nearby ships?

so a moros with 6000 xl antimater, 1200 stront, and 10,000 units of jump fuel would kill just about everything on grid when it exploded. As mentioned above think more about the potential abuse of a feature before you ssugest it because if it can be abused it will be

Lets see there was that guy who tanked Concord and killed hundreds of highsec'er, using RR before it was illeagle. Then theres POS bowling, can lag/bubble lag, Macro's, scamers that use CCP's name, noob system canbaiters and so on. This is all against the rules and there done, thats why.
If it were allowed I would do it yay 50 kill mails at Jita and all it cost me was a Bestower, =) I'd then quit and play a less broken game. =(

A better idea than yours would be to
when a ship dies there is a random chance of an engine core going nova. we'd have to work out explosion radius' and strengths per hull code etc. etc..
But in the end it would mean you don't want to butthug each other during fleet fights because there is a chance if your buddy dies you can get caught in the splash damage when/if his core goes bust.
