Currently as we know it the following problems have been repeatedly been mentioned
Lagg Blobs Node Crashers
Recently I have been doing some research and found theres a way to permanently get rid of the following issues, my good friends in NC have kindly been explaining over the past few weeks how eve online is exact like the Afghanistan / Iraq / USA war.
The Problem
Lagg - Lagg occurs mainly when theres alot of people on the field making it impossible to get a decent fight.
Blobbing - Due to a limitation in skill one side freely blobs another side with 1000:1 odds
Node Crashers - Most alliances put everything they have in a system for the sake of Node Crashing / Lagging, this is considered skill to most alliances.
Now as I stated most alliances previously havent liked my ideas as it forces them to use skill so now I have included RL in the formula.
Since 0.0 is RL I think it is best we introduce embassies and culture points which will affect 0.0 / sov
When an alliance gets sov they will produce culture points, this will allow them to capture neighbouring systems automatically, this culture will spread and freely capture systems of neutral / hostile entities adding the necessary expenses to the alliance, culture will be spread based on activity / population of the alliance and bordering alliances.
Culture wont really affect those that are equally active so those alliances close to enemies will ONLY get affected by culture if they are inactive (macro mining, station docking, afk cloaking, macro ratting DOESNÆT count as active)
Embassy - This will allow you and your proposed ally to become blue, this will have to be built a system by both alliances and without this both alliances will be marked as 'undecided', for each alliance you wish to blue you will have to have one embassy EACH and the cost will increase per blue and population, the upkeep of an embassy is based on how many members are blue, alliances blue to each other wont be affected by friendly culture.
So lets look at the scenarios here
1. Alliances abuse this system and decide to NRDS freely having current allies neutral and everyone else red just for the sake of meta gaming.
Outcome - Culture affects all NON-BLUE so if alliances wish to meta game they will in affect get a HUGE BILL, get bankrupt and all their once allies will lose their space
2. Alliances mark everyone blue in 50 jumps (much like now) dropping alot of embassies
Outcome - A heavy bill, alliances will have to decide whether its worth bluing someone.
3. Alliances disband and form a single alliance
Outcome - Since culture is based on activity / population unless theres a strong activity number in that alliance they will notice their influence severely reduced
4. Alliances continue to Node Crash
Outcome - Because theres a HUGE price tag involved in bluing alliances (based on size ofc) alliances will have to decide if its worth bluing everyone for the sake of Node Crashing, one thing is for certain it wont be cost effective.
5. Alliances abuse culture and capture everything from activity
Outcome - Sov will still be capturable by military and as long as border alliances are active (not station docked / afk cloaked, macro ratting, macro mining) they wont be affected by culture.
If this happens alliances will FINALLY get a risk reward when dealing with other alliances something that is missing as theres no risk involved in bluing. I understand NC and other NAPs will get emotional about this but this is more like RL --

"Lagg" is a very small village on southern coast of the Isle of Arran in Scotland made up of a few houses and a hotel. The family run hotel has a restaurant and is one of the oldest inns on Arran, dating back to 1791. The shop/post office has closed and the hotel no longer has a public bar.
You probably meant "lag".
Also, confirming the OP has played too much SoaSE. _

You cant fix Blob warfare, No mechanic will ever change Bring more people = Win.
Even using your RL comparison, In Afghanistan and Iraq the USA and friends brought in what 4 or 5 times the amount of soldiers and equipment that the 2 nations even had, the USA formed a giant coalition and roflstomped them.
And with more people come more lag, if you increase the amount of people that can be in a system then you just get back to the lag. Your system encourages larger alliances and with that will come even more horrendous blobbing and lag.

What??? Please enlighten us with the wisdom of NC. As for your ideas, are you suggesting that alliances should build McDonalds in space and so win by the spread of Culture. Wonder what the Space Taliban will make of that.

I think it's always good when people come up with new ideas, even though I'm not sure this particular one is practical or even desirable. However,

I'm sorry, I just don't get it. Could you explain?

I met this girl the other day, she's pretty cool.. not my type, but we would like to be friends. But for us to be friends tho.. we each have to put 5 USD in a box once a week, every week. A mysitcal, magical box that is owned by no one.. it is simply, there. Cause thats real life.. and thats how you solve problems in a video game is by using real life.

So lets see.. I make a post about how illogical it is for making people pay isk to have friends. That's what 'blues' are, your friends and allies. Why should anyone dump money into a meaningless well that serves no purpose other than to promote the idealogy of decreasing the amount of friends and allies people have?
And you retort.. like a child? I suppose not surprising coming from someone that has repeatedly handled this entire manner in rather strange ways. Claiming to be incredibly rich and significant, but if such really is the case.. why hide behind an alt? Why not come forth and be known.. surely it would create more of a buzz and get more people behind your cause if you have a good story to weave through people's ears n minds. What would you have to fear if people know your main?
Something about the past, isn't it? The story of your past isn't quite so grand, correct perhaps? This is something much more personal for you, and you know revealing yourself would simply create the complete opposite of what you want.
Maybe it is simply you wanting people to play the game the way you want them to play? If the majority of people wanted to do it your way.. they would be. But they aren't. You can try to break it all up, but people will go back together in larger n growing packs.. it is human nature. How EVE currently acts now really is no different than reality, people packed around cities, cities packed around resources and/or vital tranportation routes, protected by governments, with defenses and friendships with other governments.. whether they want to or not, simply to help promote their own survival.
Ahhh yes.. good ole survival. It will cause people to band together again no matter how far broken up current society is shattered.
Good luck with that.
Using people for your own goals.. hmmm, sounds kinda NAP'sih to me quite honestly. Doesn't it?

Anyone else find it funny and amusing that this idea is coming from a player that is in the "NAP Coalition"?
The entire EVE Online community can not hold hands and sing Kumbaya. Sorry if I broke your gaming strategy!
Leave things the way they are and just fix the lag. As history has shown us that once CCP starts to mess with the solv system things start to go down hill!
CCP, once you fix the lag, take a long vacation and comeback and fix the rest of the problems that have been piling up since 2002!
If you do that, I'm sure that that everyone in the game will PLEX up all their accounts for a year! ROFL! ------

This, for all items in the OP.
The current problem IMO is not caused by blobfare, not by cramming the whole alliance into one system or anywhere remotely like US wars.
The current problem is the fact that economy is bad, servers didnt get that fast as Intel's wet dream predicted, and EVE got a lot more popular. Offcourse this is my wild guess, and it's kinda worthless, but logic suggests exactly that.
On top of that you have a codebase that probably is hardly worked on by the original creators anymore, and if you ever coded more then a few lines of "Hello world!" you know that it can be a nightmare to get a grip on the logic, or lack thereof (in your oppinion) of "the previous programmerÖ".
In every reply made by CCP to the threads regarding LAG you can see they are aware of the issues and working on it. This is not something you give your average programmer to do. It's also not changing a few variables and adjusting a FOR loop.
It involves looking at every stupid thing that gets sends from client to server and the other way around, when it happens, what exactly does happen, and why it does in that way. Then you have to restructure it, try to streamline it, and not break it in the process. So in effect, you are looking at how to do what you already do, with less traffic, and without braking the game. Including network setup & configuration. On top of that you are reviewing the entire fracking codebase on performance.
You could compare that to having to restructure a book by using less words, and still keep the story true in all it's aspects.
If that wasnt enough, you get to think on how to get those darned nodes reinforced dynamically.
I doubt there are many people here that are up to such a task or even comprehend what it all involves. Yet, we all know that CCP is a bunch of lazy asses and that they are taking way to long to fix something as simple as lag ... right ? ========================== Nothing is true, everything is permitted. ========================== |
