I heavily endorse this initiative. Discussions here are had with a high level of rigour, and effort is taken to ensure that multiple points of view are represented.

Edited by: Benjamin Shepherd on 15/10/2010 06:47:24 The Assembly Council and myself thank the Interstellar Correspondents for their article on the ongoing Presidential elections. It is my hope that additional capsuleers are able to listen in and take part in the discussions taking place within the Assembly hall. Though there are a few grammar errors, it was a nice surprise.
And for the record, if anyone wishes to contact me, it's Shepherd, not Shepard. Just for the future.

I appeal to the members of this counseul to enact a way to prevent Corp Gankers from joining Corps. These cowards use there character to join a corp and then destroy and pop its fellow members. Seeking Revenage is almost useless. You can contact Mercs to go after them but they are high sec Cowards and putting a bounty on someone is a joke. Players have more respect for Pirates at least you know who is popping you. These players who join corps to kill are the scum of Eve. Here is one Goldlina. Bellator Militaris CEO History Inc. The exclusion of any faction is a clear sign that there are motives at play that are at odds with the spoken intent. The supposed focus of this endeavor is to promote tolerance between factions, and as a community, provide a neutral table for conflict resolution, as well as preventing conflicts from expanding beyond their initial scope.
Even should a faction be known for, and espouse tactics and programs of operation that are at odds to the overall peaceful focus of this effort, they should be allowed to be at the table as equals. Their effect on the community is equal to any other member, and have as many adherents to their philosophy of conduct as any other represented here.
For the governing council to show favoritism to one ideaology over another, takes from their ability to be respected as moderators of communication between factions. Who can even imagine the result if they would be able to allow themselves to rise above their own ideas, and allow others of a vastly different mindset an equal measure of respect as they would their own family? Give a man a fish, and he has one good meal. Teach a man to fish and he has a way to **** off his wife every Sunday. |

I am not sure what the presumption is here. Are you hypothetically speaking about the necessity of a balanced group, or are you stating that the current Council is biased to a particular entity?
At this time, there is a Councilor from every major empire, the Angel Cartel, Sansha's Nation, and Star Fraction. The Councilors do not represent their respective corporations and alliances per se, but instead share and offer opinion and civil debate within the Assembly hall. Previously, there have been Councilors from other groups, however these capsuleers requested to resign due to time conflicts and underlying issues.
If the question could be restated, I would gladly answer it in a more logical way.

A presidential debate will commence within the Assembly hall this Wednesday, October 20th, at 21:00 EVE Standard Time. It will last for no longer than an hour. The topics will be focused on Assembly-specific issues, such as how each candidate will assist with debate brainstorming within the Council, planning capsuleer summits, et cetera.
For clarification, the two Councilors running for President are John Revenent and Graelyn.
If you have questions for both candidates, message me before the debate and I will present some of those questions to the candidates during the debate.

@ Benjamin Shepherd- I merely saught to clearly state that the current efforts of this assembly need to maintain at their core the idea of neutrality within the council, and to actively seek members from all major powers in New Eden.
I also feel that smaller factions should be able to combine under a banner within the counsel only, in order to represent the larger numbers of citizens who are not involved in the broader scope of operations and conflicts that the largest factions of New Eden engage in. I have seen from my own efforts that a few citizens with clear focus are able to have a huge effect on broader issues, and that to exclude these type of focused groups could lead to disruptions of the process as a whole.
Other than this, I feel this project can have nothing but good results, as long as the members seek to respect one another, even through the schisms that may seperate them outside the council. Give a man a fish, and he has one good meal. Teach a man to fish and he has a way to **** off his wife every Sunday. |

The nomination protocol is described in the Charter, but your view is noted.
As for a corporation, no. There is no need at this time for a corporation to exist for a debating society.

After two weeks of voting, the Council has elected John Revenent as President of the New Eden Assembly Council. The votes were counted as follows:
John Revenent - 7 Graelyn - 3 Abstain - 2 Void - 4
I thank the Councilors that voted, and the capsuleers that listened to the presidential debate yesterday. Beginning immediately, I shall now act as Council Adjunct, with Mr. Revenent taking over the Director's roles, and those granted to him by the Charter. Mr. Revenent will have one week to select a Vice President and Council Chair, as per the Charter.

I as many of you are aware am a man of few words, so I will say my piece. First I wish thank the council for giving me this opportunity, with such power bestowed upon me I will ensure the NEA keeps on its path of neutrality where everyone no matter what race, religion, or political alignment can have a voice in a safe, open, and understanding society.
I understand the responsibility placed upon my shoulders, and welcome it openly for there is much need for change in these times. For this is where our unified voice will affect the outcome of our future.

I whole heartedly support the notions of tolerance presented by John in his brief posting, with the exception of his use of the word "safe".

It may be a little bit late for this, but I would like to congratulate Mr. Revenent, Taisho of the Ishuk-Raata Enforcement Directive, as being the elected official president of the New Eden Assembly Council. As weÆve worked closely in the past I can attest the fact that you are more than up to the task and will be a synergic force that will surely lead NEA Council towards the next level.

On December 21st, the current President's term will end. Therefore, today begins preparations for the second Presidential election. President John Revenent's plans for a cultural seminar are still being worked out, and it will commence before his term ends.
We will announce in the coming days how this second election may differ from the previous one. Additional debates, voting structure changes, and term limitations may change based on future discussions with the Assembly Council. Until this information is agreed upon, I encourage everyone to visit the New Eden Assembly's FTL channel for the civil discourse that is expected.

Sadly, a project that claims to be freely usable uses nonfree ways to distribute its papers. I request that you use some free way to distribute them, as I do not want to register needlessly on random corporation sites. Idea seems interesting, but one cant judge without knowing the details...

On Sunday, December 12th at 20:00 EVE Standard Time, I will be overseeing an hour-long "Free Speech" event. During this time, from 20:00 to 21:00, any capsuleer - active in either the FTL channel or in our physical Yulai assembly hall - will have 5 minutes to speak of any topic or issue that they wish to present to the Assembly patrons.
The only rules during this time is that no physical or personal threats are made, and each speaker may not be interrupted.

I have, after an extremely long period of time, returned. Mr. Shepherd it is, as it was before, an honor to be receiving you. My absence was not without cause. The time spent away from this council has not, in any way, been a vacation. Lives lost, trusts gained and broken, and priorities shifted. These have been the topics of my existence since my disappearance. It is, with hope, that I ask to re-join this council. I have noticed, from the transcripts, that several decisions were made... and people have come and gone. I ask to be updated, as I see much has changed.
