First off this is not a troll or a dig at CCP...
I have been playing eve online for almost 3 years now, and although most of the time that has I admit been in the 'carebear life' I have tried other areas of the game, but each time after a period of time I find myself thinking, why do I still play this game?
Its not that I am no good at pvp ( I am rubbish lol) its not that I find missioning or mining, boring, its just I cannot seem to focus on one thing or the other, I start training towards one thing, and then I see something else and I switch, which is why I have such an odd spread of skills..
I think the point is, EVE has almost lost its touch for me, I use to be pretty much one of those people who could play for hours, and lived at home with mum, but lately I been getting out there, and I have a social life and soon to be moving in with a girlfriend, it just seems like where EVE was some what important, its now dropping rapidly off the list of things I like doing faster than a pre-nerf nano ship..
Question is, do I take a break? drop sub and if I change my mind come back? or should I just quit? Walking in stations, DUST, will change nothing in EVE for me, although I would be tempted to give DUST a go being a console owner..
EVE has lost its buzz for me, but will it ever come back?

The key to staying in Eve is having an awesome corp. After a while, they become the ones you stay for.

What's the point? You know you'll be back after a month or three. Then you'll think about all the training time you lost.
I, like you, have a rich social life and I'm a very active person IRL. Therefore I don't always have much time to log in and do stuff. I find however that this makes me want to play even more, and as soon as I get free time I eagerly log in.
My advice to you is to not quit even though you've lost your spark. It'll come back!

There's pretty much no down-sides to taking a break if you actually have doubts. If it turns out there's nothing else fun to do with your time or the spark returns it is always easy to come back. Whereas just doing the same things repeatedly because you feel "obligated" or you have too much "invested" is just being trapped.
A game keeping you occupied for 3 years is already impressive, but no game stays fresh forever.

You're just as free to quit at any time as you are free to re-sub again afterwards.

Yea take a break. The great thing about eve is with the frequent expansion releases, you can come back in a year or 2 and have tons of new things to play with.

OP: you are putting too much thinking in all that. Eve is sort of hobby just like any other, it is supposed to add a little spice at the end of your daily routine... you know, like, when you have nothing better to do you log and play to have some fun. If there's no fun go find something else, it's that easy.
Btw you'll know you're in trouble if/when game becomes substitution rather than minor addition to your rl.

It's all about balance, and there are many aspects of a human life, so balance is not easy. Real life is always better than a fantasy world. If you are addicted, you should quit and not look back. Otherwise, keep up your sub, and you can enjoy the game when you have time for it, and your skills timers will keep on ticking! On the other hand, I have quit and come back a couple time now, just because circumstances required it. It's no big deal either way.
Relationships require cultivation, and healthy ones require two-way exchanges. If your relationships are important to you, you'll have to decide if the time spent gaming is worth it.

Dude, if the game is no longer your main form of entertainment then why are you questioning your gut? Quit or take a 6 month break. In the mean time stick it in your girl's pooper till that gets old for you and then try EvE again down the road. Jesus... this ain't rocket science!

Just take a break, no need to completely delete your account and if you choose to come back then great.
Personally I have taken a number of breaks, its nice to have the option of coming back without having to restart from scratch. In fact i normally put on a long skill in training and leave for a while. Try something new or just, as you say, get out there

Ive been playing just short of a year and I think I may also take a break. My former corp got really inactive at least when I played so I quit and have since been stagnant in my one man corp. Thought about joining another but TS or EVE Voice is often required and Ive not had much luck getting it to work. All I've done lately is log in, stare blankly at the screen then log out. Theres a million things I haven't done though. I'm quite sick of running missions, esp. solo and I'm wondering what if anything would hold my interest as a solo pilot.

I knew somewhere there would be something like that in this post. Unfortunately I kind of worded it wrong, we already in a place, only just got internet up and running..
point is, I do still have time for eve, but it feels like so much effort to do anything in EVE lately, plus the fact I keep having to buy new headsets cos someone/something keeps destroying the wires (two cats and a dog might have something to do with it).
I think I will take a small break and come back to eve with a completely different attitude

Take a break. EvE gets abit dry for everyone at some point. I've took several breaks, and I know alot of people who have done the same... but we always come crawling back in a few months time.
The people you play with also have a big impact on how much you want to play. The people I fly with are a great bunch of dudes and I want to touch them all in places I shouldnt. Even when I'm "on a break" I log on to say Hi.
So yeh take a break. Its impossible to quit eve.
And if you can afford it, I'd keep your account active for the skill training. And while your away train something completely different. Like a complete new race for example. That way when you come back it will be alot more "fresh"

If Eve feels like too much effort then take a break definitely. Don't have to decide now whether it's a long one or short one.
When you get bored of the gf or other games, what have you, then come back, find a good corp and get on with Eve. It'll still be here :p

There is no and will never be a game to replace the joys of life.
A break is welcomed. Always. MMOs should just be a way to spend some of your free time and they will never have to become a way of life.

After 4 and a half years I'm leaving this month. Lifestyle has changed over the years and the game doesnt hold the same appeal anymore. That and I just dont have the time to devote to corp/fleet duties.
Kind of dissapointed too that basic flawed fundamentals of the game keep getting forgotten about by CCP for new stuff that doesnt appeal and just adds more problems.
Bit of a shame to be leaving especially as I have just finished getting most of the Leadership/Command skills to lvl5 but there you go. Paying ú13 a month to click a skill update every three weeks isnt really worth it any more.
I might come back but if after 4-5 months I havent felt the need then chances are all my stuff will forever remain under dustsheets in the station.

I have been playing since 1/09 and took about month break cause I was getting kind of burned out. Nothing wrong with that really, I just regret not putting up a long skill in advance. If you got the extra peso's then keep subbed and just train whatever just in case you do decide to come back you won't feel like you cheated yourself. As much whining that's going on in the forums ppl will still stay subbed and keep training, so don't let that discourage you in any way.

Edited by: Journey Man on 03/08/2010 18:14:10 I think it depends on your financial situation. If the monthly fee is a drop in the ocean of cash you earn, then keep training otherwise put your account on hold.
I've been playing since 2004 and have taken multiple breaks, the longer ones have been when I stopped paying (and training) and during the shorter ones (I'm on a two month break now owing to work and holidays) I really got satisfaction from training long lvl5 skills.
Also just a bit of GF advice: Always go to bed together at the same time, don't find yourself online at 3am while your GF is pretending to sleep anxiously wondering whether you are looking at pron on your comp.
