Some of us who need to plan very far in advance would like some travel package options now to begin booking.
That said, putting together a package on my own comes to about $450usd flight, and $900usd for hotel (Ranga). It'd be nice to get that total under $1000 like last Fanfest. Now. While I can still plan for it.

How cold will Iceland be around then?
I'd be tempted to go but staying in a hotel might cost too much - would a rented car, sleeping bag and tent for fanfest and a bit of sightseeing be possible without my extremities freezing off?

Around +1 degrees Celsius, so you wont be freezing your balls off (if you have any) ;)

Cool, maybe I could start a festival in some Reykjavik park!
Like Glastonbury, but only colder...and a few less people.

It's one of the few chances you get to chat with people about EVE face to face. One of the more difficult things of the forum is that a lot of subtlety gets lost or is completely taken out of context. When you are just chatting people seem a lot less likely to do this and it's much easier to correct them in a personal conversation
It's a good avenue to talk things through I find
And last time 2manydj's was really great
Perhaps if more people at CCP feel that the forums lack subtlety, or that statements so easily get completely taken out of context, keeping in mind that Fanfest is still so far away, CCP should consider other options of communicating with the players?
If I remember correctly, you were the one stating that there is currently a larger gap between players and CCP than ever before. If this feeling is shared, why doesn't CCP address this through other means than forum posts and 'dev blogs'? There are plenty of 'social media' opportunities available for 'setting the record straight', as well as for the players to 'confront with grievances'.
Naturally, for this to be meaningful, and not dismissed out of hand, the CCP talking partners have to be fairly high up, as, clearly, the dissatisfaction expressed by players so 'inelegantly' on these forums is structural, and would need to be addressed by those who have a say on the structural level (please, no more PR/marketing mouth-pieces, PRC Social Media Solutions can't help you here). Naturally, to avoid it being dismissed as a scripted event, with consequent little believability, the moderation has to be neutral, and the discussion free (so no 'send your questions three weeks in advance' so we can prepare a statement, and no 'prepping' or 'selecting' the discussion partners).
I know things will be difficult because apparently everyone is off on holiday at the moment, but surely it should be possible for CCP to address at least some of these issues directly outside of the common, and let's face it, untrusted, channels of vacuous forum posts and the damage-control dev-blogs; 'face-to-face' if it were.
Surely, even with the internal segregation you currently face at CCP, you, together with the other devs, can make the case that the previous face-to-face interaction with the player elected CSM didn't, to put it mildly, work out as well as you'd hoped, and that, beyond the silence and the damage-control, something else may be required? Surely the internal disconnect hasn't reached such levels as to prevent the you lot to make a case for that now has it?
Because, quite clearly, this game just bleeds customer dissatisfaction all over the interwebs, and this must surely have an impact on the metrics marketing is using right now. If what you have tried to do thusfar hasn't helped (in fact, I would argue, made it worse), isn't it about time to try something else? Because if you think things now are pretty grim, things will only get worse if you don't do something. If players are disenchanted now, what you do think the reception will be when you do trot out Incarna ****winter? Do you really think this will have all blown over by then? Do you really think that it will be judged on it merits alone? Do you really think players will not compare it to the things you could have done instead?
Please, tell the that you lot at CCP aren't seriously considering just sitting on your hands like this until, hopefully, some day, some magical lag-fix will come out that will make all this just go away. Because it clearly won't. This disenchantment is structural, and I, and many with me I believe, have one foot out of the door, and am wondering why the other one is still inside. Remember the people emo raging here on the forums, are just sad little people, they dont have the balls to do anything when they stand infront of them! And I am sure, we would lynch them, should they decide to try anything anyways!
At last fanfest, some locals got into a ruffle because someone was badmouthing EVE!

You're very optimistic, but it would be great if they do.

Stay at the city hostel, it costs you maybe a hundred dollars for 4 or 5 nights and its a 10 minute walk from the venue.
