The problem of 0.0 roaming I run into is this... if I use cheap stuff i die way too quickly to get much real experince becuase i almost always lose to the players with the expensive ships. In fact in low sec i have never seen any one fight me with anything less than a pirate faction ship or tech 2 bad a!@ against my arbi or mauler. At least when i used the legion (wich by the way wasn't even fit for pvp) it took a group of gankers to take me down and it took them about 20 minutes. Then there's the problem of ammo. If i use the popular and effectve gun ammmo i have to go back to get more wich means going through gate camps or 0.0 station camps. So the idea of using cheap ships to get experience seems good but not nesseccarly followed (show me the people that are doing this as lone pilot and I'll show you where the gank squad is hiding. I just dont believe that anyone acctually follows this advice.) It's hard to get experience when you are only alive for 20 seconds. Maybe i need to find a 0.0 corp. I've been givven a lot of good advice (thank you) but pvp still seems to be the only for the high point pcs and the expensive ships.

Move to somewhere else, some areas are more blobby and use more expensive ships than others.
and cruiser work just fine for solo pvp, if you die in less than 20 seconds you're doing something wrong..

It is really about picking your fights in a T1 ship / low SP config.

This except it applies to all setups not just cheap ships. Obviously, you cant always pick your fights and t2s will give you more of a chance at surviving all encounters. Really its knowing what ships you can take on and what you cant. Chase the ones you can run from the ones you cant. Unfortunately t1 frigs and cruisers are really near the bottom of this barrel.
Solo pvp is quite rare in eve though and much harder to find than if you were in a small gang of 2-5 people.

unless you really like low sec pirating and dont care too much about your sec status you wont find many 1v1 fights anymore. used to be what most pilots did and now its all about who has the bigger blob of drakes w/scimitar support.(please nerf drakes tank CCP for gods sake.)
but. if you dont mind letting the sec status drop and having to rat/mission it back up to positive then repeat then low sec is still a fun and viable way to go solo. pick your fights but you will find many faction warfare nubs running around in assault frigs/frigs/destroyers that can be ripped apart by a standard cruiser quite easily. Edited by: Xylopia on 08/08/2010 01:28:44 I used to live in deep in low sec and did some biz. Meanwhile, I hired a guy with low SP for scouting my transportation op.
What he end up doing was, instead of looking out, going on a killing spree with his pathetic T1 gal cruisers. He killed Raven with Vexor, Cerb with Thorax, and many more. He did it so persistent and almost religiously that I had to cut him lose at the end. ( I didn't want to stir up the whole area and make ppl come after my trans op.)
To these days, I don't have the slightest idea of how he picked up his target and how he pulled off all those kills, but the fact is it's possible and there are people doing exactly that. |

*ahem* The drake is fine...it does what it is supposed to.
People rarely solo fight because of the chances of getting ganked..baited or otherwise setup for a fall. Join a corp...roam with a fleet or face the consequences.
even drakes aren't solo pwnmobiles.
Fly a myrmidon or cane or harbinger for solo work. If you want a BS...its hard to beat a good blaster domi Remind people that profit is the difference between revenue and expense. This makes you look smart. Scott Adams

BWHAHAHAHAHA...That's like saying "I lived in a .5 system in hi-sec and did some biz"
Now to the OP:
What you need to do is find yourself a decent PVP corp in 0.0 and start staying away from the 'renters'....Look in the recruitment forums and/or start a thread there.
There are many good corps out there

Also remember that many of us that fly in dirt cheap ships (we buy 50 of them in one go) also have good skills. Skills do make a difference. When you combine that with T2 modules (with good skills) the ship is actually a minor thing. Yes, they give bonuses to armor and stuff, but skills also make up for it.
Also with cheap ships the "do or die mentality" helps. You just go for it and don't chicken out. At least for gallente pilots the battle isn't over when you hit structure, that's when it begins to become victorious :) Stop whining. |

100% right.
I think I have lost six or eight t1 cruisers by now out of 10 or 12 trips to rat in null. I mostly lost them on the way back from null, like you, to gate camps. My rule of thumb for ratting in null is this: I am going to rat in null, I am not coming back in the ship I left.
So far I have been able to make isk to cover my losses, but that is about it, no great profits.
My advice to you. If you go to rat, make isk from bounties, then go and rat and do not engage in pvp, avoid pvp, do not look for 1v1. You are there to rat, to make isk. If you can stick to that, you will be alright, you will cover your expanses and make a profit.

Join Faction Warfare. You can solo in T1 frigates, eventually move up to cruisers/bc's etc. People whine and moan about FW being broken, but as an entry-level PvP system, it's perfect.
When you can fly a T2 cruiser with all supports at 4/5, go try and solo 0.0 :). Yes you -can- roam 0.0 with less, but as you said, it just ends with you dying in a horrible fire.

Uhm: I see it this way...
You lack exp and nose to catch those weaker then you... and let stronger guys find you.
Dont worry yourself tho - I can find anyone weaker as well - yet stronger guys regularly find me.
Bottom line: you have to find weaker guys - cause they run from you, stronger guys must not find you therefore you have to run from them. Easy system, takes years to master :D basically like chess.

I can see a bit where the OP is coming from but....
The ISK you make in 0.0 is so darn good that the ships you talk about are basically throw-away ships for the ones that live in 0.0.
So basically the 0.0 crew is using cheap ships for pvp also but their definition of cheap is different from yours because of higher income.
(I consider a drake a very cheap ship and don't feel comfotrable without replacements in my hangar, just like T2 frigs. T2 cruisers I consider cheap although I don't have ready replacements but I feel comfortable taking them into battle.)
