So, high sec, Gate guns are rapetastic, 400km, excellent tracking, yadada.
My question is on low sec guns. I have, in a system that I frequent, a group of individuals who cyno in their jump freighter right on the gate. I can always get in my vexor or drake to blow these things up, but I wanted to use my Hound.
Now, the problem with the hound is that it's rather squishy - two gate guns will probably blow it up in one volley. My question is, is it possible to sensor disruptor the gate guns to increase their lock times? If not, how long would it take them to lock a frigate anyhow?
Many thanks. |

You are aware that a JF (maxed) has over 335,000EHP yes?
Oh and no you can't do anything about the guns. They have infinite tracking and always hit for full damage.
Edit - they will lock the hound faster than you can warp unless you're aligned. Even then you'll be lucky to get out.
tl;dr utter waste of time, you have no hope of killing anything other than the cyno ship
Edit2 - you could try to bump him off-gate but you'll need something a hell of a lot bigger than a hound. You still have to kill that 335k EHP although anyone who cynos a JF (current value 5.5-6b empty) onto gate is a moron so there is hope |

Sensor disrupt, not tracking disrupt. As in increase their lock time. My question is, is it possible to do that? |

Take this as a rule : - frigate hull in low sec PvP (unless at a belt or a celestial) is FAIL
Gate & Station Guns will ALLWAYS **** you.
Just forget it or go to 0.0 / wormholes.

Lowsec gate guns have a 350 kilometer range, they will engage any target within 151km of the object they are protecting and they do 300 DPS to the target they randomly assign as the thing they want to shoot. I'm not familiar with the formula that they use to designate which gets shot next in large engagements, but they will instapop any frigate that isn't a jaguar on sight. My recommendation is to use a Myrmidon or Sleipnir. Both can tank gate guns indefinitely with ease as long as they have cap to use it. The only issue is that if your targets are jumping a JF to a gate is preventing it from jumping through. You'll have thirty seconds to get set up, but if you can't bump him out of jump range, the entire theory becomes moot. |

That's because the Jag itself is just ****, but mainly because of the resists. Jaguar has a phenomenal resist set, and they can omnitank 300 DPS easily. Doesn't matter if its armor or shield, its the only frigate I've seen that can survive gate guns |

No there is nothing you can do for the gate guns.
They have infinite range (as long as on grid) and infinite tracking. The only thing different with them is that they do less dps than high sec gate guns. |

The Jaguar has a brother with more EHP. And there's no way in hell a jaguar can tank 300DPS, that's more than alot of cruisers active tanked.
Even so, it's pretty ****** under gate guns. Commanding Officer of the Treacle Tart Brigade SLAPD Director |

Good day:
In this battle -- http://tuskers.killmail.org/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=10688935 , Smoke XN went GCC at a gate in his Taranis (frigate hull) to get off a shot or two against the Punisher that had used a small energy neutralizer to cap me out.
Smoke XN's Taranis took four (4) gate gun shots and was able to get off field (heavily into structure though) with his ship still in tact (granted, flames everywhere).
Yesterday, I accidentally brought out a Crusader when I still have gate / session timer aggression (after gcc cleared), forgetting I still had those combat timers... the station guns hit me a few times before I realized what was going on, and I was able to get out (in structure).
So while I would not recommend being in a frigate to take gate guns, depending on your tank, you might be able to take 1 to 4 volleys before you have to get out (and if you are not pre-aligned, then that might not happen).
Thank you.

Frigates don't instapop under gateguns. Just look at EHP and gate guns dps and you see that any well-tanked frigates can surive a couple of volleys.
I've taken out ships in my Crusader under gate gun fire, though they obviously need to be poor EHP ships. In the Crusader's case, Crows and Covops. |

lol, good luck with that, but hey I heard Rooks and Kings killed a bil isk harpy once so who knows.
I have GCCed plenty in frigates, you don't need to sustain defense on a gate to gank someone, and if you really did a Vengence would probably be able to get a tank you could be proud of far cheaper than a jag and a ganglink tengu would.
[Vengeance, New Setup 1] Centii C-Type Small Armor Repairer Centii C-Type Small Armor Repairer Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II

200mm AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S 200mm AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S 200mm AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S Rocket Launcher II, Gremlin Rage Rocket
Small Nanobot Accelerator I Small Auxiliary Nano Pump I
There the only faction on that costs less than 20m isk, and it needs no ganglink ship to get it's 314 sustained defense. Stable with cap boosters, also good luck killing anything under gate gun fire being that slow while only doing 109 DPS with all level V skills. Frigates just aren't really suited to this sort of thing. Though if someone is really stubborn it can get 432 with a gang link legion.
Tl;DR if you want to throw money at it plenty of frigs can tank gate guns, it is still a terrible idea. If if you must do it, the vengeance can do it cheaper than most.

These questions are best "asked" on the Test server, Sisi: try it and see. But no, gate guns are rather unreal in their bias against frigs. |
