Why does everyone think that 18 months is when the game will be fixed?
They said that it will be 18 months BEFORE they start looking into and possibly looking how they can fix the problems.
You aren't going to suddenly have a working game in 18 months..
Try 21 months at least.

Explain to me how you can suddenly have the fix the game in 18 months.
Seems to me that its going to take some time after they assign the needed teams into investigating the current problems; because the one team is doing a poor job of doing it now.

well it takes 2 full years to start a fresh character and fully train all universal ship skills to V. so if you started right now, the game would be fixed in time for you to be fully competitive in the ship of your choice, so it all works out.

SWEET! So only $360 USD (Ç270 EURO) and 2 years and we can might possibly fight in large fleets again! \/
I hope they don't start "Incarna 2" in 18 months

The game is working right now, and I have no problems at all.
But thanks for creating another spam thread on these forums. It might lack its originality, but hey, who cares.

It's never so black and white. They might already know what's wrong and how to fix it. It might also mean that fixing it NOW would mean x-amount of working hours and then when incarna comes it would already have the problem solved. So it might just be a case of "do we want to pay x-hours extra to fix it now, or pay only for the development of incarna and it fixes it"
It's a business after all. The point being made is...will the fleetlesslagplay do more harm than the amount of money it takes to fix it (now). Stop whining. |

IMHO, A serious business wouldn't have the majority of their staff go on vacation in the middle of the year.

Actually, I think its required by law/agreements in some countries. Or at least it is in Norway from what I understand. Between may and august (I think) you are required to take out 3 week vacation, unless ofcource you are holding a leadership position or something..

Not everyone. It is just that there are a certain number of holidays guaranteed by law and they need to be held primarily in the holiday season. Practical and seasonal needs override this ofcourse, but majority of workers have their long holidays during this period.

Ofcource not, but the company might run on skeleton crew / minimal staff throughout the summer. And that usually mean only the most neccesary things will be done. The rest will simply have to be postphoned till the others are back again.

I bought this new car, the engine might be broken (0.0) and the back seats are smeared with something pretty smelly (lowsec) but as long as I leave it parked in my garage (highsec) and only polish it once every few days instead of actually driving it (PVP) everything works great with it.
Best car I've ever owned!
Just because your idea of a large fleet is when you log on your salvaging alt to clean up your level 4 missions doesn't mean that all of our gameplay is so limited. We want to play EVE as it is intended by CCP and as it is being sold and advertised. That mainly involves large fleet battles.
And if your next argument is "then don't fly in large fleets" then my response is: before the change to Sov mechanics I voiced my concern that CCP was implementing as system that would give the side with the most numbers the advantage. My suggestion was to split up the Sov-structures (or at least the SBUs) over multiple systems so simply stuffing your 2000 people into a single system won't help take/hold Sov. Sadly CCP found it a better idea to make blobbing the only way to take or hold Sov.
But why am I even telling you this? You probably don't even know how the new Sov mechanic works. So go back to Irjunen and don't forget to haul those PLEX afk through empire.

Or do they present large fleet engagements as one of the key points of this game?)

I though everyone with brain understood that just from reading the devblog and CSM minutes.
They will not be able to allocate resources to bug fixes, lag or balance for at least next 18 months. They might allocate some after that time period, and god knows when could we see some results. So we likely won't see any major balance or bugfixes (or sov change, or Dominion induced 0.0 performance issues fix) for two entire years or more.
CCP has been silent for weeks now, my sub expires in 4 days... Well if they do fix stuff, and I'm still interested in gaming, and no better games show up till then... I'll just leave my stuff nicely frozen in DB for next two years. AKA none of you can have it.

Poor reading comprehension.
They said they won't have resources to allocate to anything for the next 18 months, projects can run long or they could be scrambling to make patches to fix things that popup after deployment since they don't seem to hold back on project deadlines. Point of fact they will not commit to anything players have brought up as a way of doing business, ie they don't want to make promises they have no plans to fulfill, IIRC this is how it has always been. Anger/rage come from the fact that this is announced, EVE primary gets a small crew, larger crews are on Dust and Incarna, part of the Eve Primary crew is working on PI and Dust linkage, the gem 'data doesn't support that polished quality sells better than new features' is dropped and rage ensues.
Lag is an ongoing project so if that is your 'game broken' issue, you are wrong, EVE is essentially going to be in 'maintenance' mode with whatever projects CCP had/has in the works, no room for player issues unless they were part of CCP's plans already. If we were lucky they had some in the 'plan' I seriously don't think anything big (bounty overhaul, FW overhaul, UI overhaul) will be though, we can only wait and see what if anything 'we' asked for is part of their plans.
You're point is mostly correct nothing player suggested, could possibly, maybe, be looked at by CCP, if it isn't too hard/expensive to do until at least 18months then you add on however long they take to do it, 6months, a year etc. Don't forget they aren't interested in 'polished quality' they want 'new features' to bring in more subscribers.
-------------------------------------------------------------- The 5 minute forum time delay was a crime against humanity that CCP took forever to address. |
