Just wondering if I'm alone in wondering this. I logged on tonight just to 'see', you know? Anyway, the last status update amongst my 'friends' was 36 days ago.
Also, it's slow.
/me unlikes Spacebook.
Anyone found any real use for it or does anyone have a group of EVE friends that use it regularly? What for, if you do.

I like evegate for checking my in-game mails. For me though much can be done to improve EG for example showing you whos online from your contacts within the game possibly being able to chat with them? Unsure if thats at all possible but an idea.

This. But it's more important to me than you might think. Sadly, I keep forgetting to check it on a daily basis because the site itself is slow something fierce and I really, REALLY hate the fact it censors any links (even those to the EVE forums, wtf is that).

I use it on average about once a month to quickly check eve-mails when I don't have my laptop with me. I'm sure it was totally worth the 5000 man hours. Lag is a small price to pay to be able to access my in-game mails once a month.

Lol. 5000 !!! man hours?? The frontend looks like they spent 16 hours on it so all the work went to the backend connections? And we can only see mail and some char info you can see (better) on a 100.000 other 3rd party tools ?????

As the MacOS mail 'feature' of the eve-client is still bugged to death. And is for many mac os users.
We HAVE to use eve-gate to check our mail. Which is great on the days that eve-gate become unavailable even when the main game is actually up.

The Eve Gate ? Obviously not, as it is broken since the beginning, and impossible to repair it, as all ships who go near the gate will be destroyed by the spatial distortion who is present in all the New Eden solar system.
Oh wait... did you mean the website ?

I do not use SpaceBook because:
1) e-mail rendering is unreliable.
2) the UI is clunky / slow.
3) the damn thing isn't available during the game's downtime.
SpaceBook was a novelty for me when it was first released, but now it is just an annoying default home page for the IGB (which has to be changed across client installations).

I use it every single day at work, to check my eve mail to see if there's something I need to log on for. I got a pretty busy real life and can't log in to Eve proper as often as I'd like to. Eve gate enables me to keep up with my corp mail and schedule time in advance for any serious corp ops.
The facebook style status updates, oh hell no.
But being able to check eve mail from outside Eve has changed my whole gaming experience for the better. And just being able to verify where my skill training is at from work is nice too.

Since late June, many Mac users are not able to read mail using the legacy EVE client. The stickie recommends EVE Gate "We are currently investigating and working with Transgaming on issues regarding accessing EVE Mail through the EVE Online Mac client. If you are unable to access your EVE Mail, we suggest using EVE Gate, either through the in-game browser or a browser of your choice."
This provides a convenience to CCP - EVE Gates allows them a workaround and so presumably lower the priority for client fixes.

Keep in mind that the eve-gate development went hand-in-hand with overhauled ingame mail and the ingame calendar.
Even if we ignore the ingame mail aspect for now, anyone that makes use of the ingame calendar, at least, is making use of Eve-Gate.
And from what I can tell, that feature at least gets used relatively frequently.

I would use EVE Gate to read my mail due to mainly playing on a Mac, but it's faster for me to boot my Vista laptop, launch EVE, log in and read my mail ingame than it is to log in to the EVE Gate web site.
Seriously, I don't know what they think they're doing, but way back in 2000 the rule was, "30 seconds to load all assets, or you've lost that customer."'

I use it to check corp/alliance mails on my iphone as well as on my mac at work. It's a lot more discreet than loading up the game client and logging into it, which is what I used to do.
That said, it could use a lot more functionality, such as the ability to view my inventory, buy or sell from markets, or dozens of other things that don't require you to undock to do.

It's been very valuable to me as a tool to check up on mails while at work.
Also, since I'm a Mac user, and have the wide-spread mail cache problem, it's currently the only way to check my Eve mails.
So yes, I use it very frequently.
The calendar part has lots of potential. I just think it's not used frequently yet.

Evegate may not be the greatest thing since slice bread but its a useful tool to have on the swiss army knife.
TBH the reason ppl hate it is its modeled after social networking apps/sites and they hate social networking.
I could sit here and say that's because they live in their mommas basement and don't talk to chicks, but that would trolling, however accurate it may be. This is clearly a signature. |
