WHAT: A festival of ship-to-ship mayhem in the Bushkazi Arena for glory and riches! WHEN: Saturday 14 August 2010, pre-game begins at 1700 EVE time, matches begin at 1800 EVE time. WHERE: A to-be-disclosed location in the Evati star system. WHO: All comers are invited! Form into teams of three or compete in the solo free-for-all! WHY: Because you know it will be fun! Also: for the glory and prizes. HOW: Read the rest of this post!
The origins of Bushkazi are lost in time and no historian is certain precisely when or where in New Eden the sport was first contested, but most do agree on certain common details: the sport involved mounted riders, a decapitated herd animal was used as a ball, and it was brutally violent. Specifically, teams of mounted riders would dash away from the starting line, race to grab the carcass, drag it around a pole driven into the sand, and then back to the winnerĘs circle. While this went on, the other riders did whatever it took to stop this from happening and to score the goal for themselves. Typically the riders carried whips in their teeth and wore armor. The game was notoriously dangerous and serious injury was common.
For our enlightened and modern age of spaceships, we have substituted frigates for mounted riders, a cargo canister of livestock for a carcass, and the bleak vacuum of space for the dusty and arid arena. It will, however, still be brutally violent. The full rules may be found on this page.
Two main events are planned for The Bastards Bushkazi Festival: an elimination-style tournament in which four teams at a time compete to advance to the next round, and a single free-for-all in which all comers compete in an all-out orgy of absolute mayhem.
A glittering array of prizes will be awarded, including an Ashimmu, a Navy Hookbill, a Sisters Probe Launcher set complete with Sisters probes, and much, much more. See our prizes page for more information. (Prizes courtesy of TheHermit, Kai, Leroxee, and The Bastards.)
Teams may pre-register by sending EVE-mail to Persephone Astrid (the Chief Referee); please be sure to list all three members of your team as well as a team name. Pre-registration is not required, but it is encouraged.
