As i'm an amarr pilot I'm not 100% sure on other weapons and ammo. My question is what large projectile ammo do pilots use in their taped up matari ships? ------------------------------

Projectile is damage specific to some degree. Unfortunatly, I can't get to the information here at work, but if you google, you can find the comparison of ammo that specifies damage type and range.

As an all around type of ammo I prefer Phased Plasma but it all depends on what you are shooting at.

You have three types:
Short range/higher damage (50% reduction): EMP L - 36EM/4KIN/8Explo Phased Plasma L - 40Therm/8Kin Fusion L - 40Explo/8Kin
Mid range/mid damage(20% bonus) Titanium Sabot - 24Kin/8 Explosive Depeletd Uranium - 12Therm/8Kin/12Explo
Long range/low damage (%60 bonus) Proton - 12EM/8Kin Nuclear - 4Kin/16Explo Carb Lead - 16Kin/4Explo

Each form of Projectile ammo has it's use: Ammo/primary damage type short range: Phased Plasma/ Thermal EMP/ EM Fusion/ Explosive
medium range: Titanium Sabot/ Kinetic Depleted Uranium/ Thermal,Explosive
long range: Carbonized Lead/ Kinetic Proton/ EM Nuclear/ Explosive
So it depends on what you are shooting at. [url=http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/combat_record.php?type=player&name=Tiger%20Prince][img]http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/signature.php/string,Tiger%20Prince/tpl,minmatar3/signature.png[ |

Above is correct but there is one very important thing to remember, those ammo types only impact optimal. AC's are virtually all falloff and arty are half falloff, half optimal. My maelstrom with 2x TE's has an optimal of 1.7km with fusion/EMP/PP but a 35km falloff if my memory is correct. If I load titanium (mid range ammo) my optimal goes to around 4-5km but the falloff is the same. Given that effective gun range = optimal + falloff and total gun range is optimal + 2xfalloff, the difference is negligible.
Barrage (t2 AC ammo) gives both a bonus to optimal and falloff. As such it is the longest ranged AC ammo and does more damage than faction medium range ammo. However it does have a tracking penalty like all t2 long range ammo. My maelstrom with barrage has a falloff of around 50km + 7km optimal. Thus far you shall read, but no further; for this is my sig. |

Right thanks for the info guys
One more question Do you use normal ammo for the large guns more than the t2 variants? ------------------------------

Mid range ammo has a tracking bonus also. Whether you use Barrage or not depends entirely on the ship setup and if you need the range, IE kiting or face-hugging. Plenty of Matari ship fits for either.

great thanks for all that.
Bit different for me as with the amarr there are less ammo options.

Not really.
Amarr's ammo option is to change their optimal from 3km-40km, making their weapons very good at a huge ammount of range.
While Minmatar's ammo options is mostly just to change damage type, and the range is mostly limited by the falloff.

In regards to what ammo is used most, I use a maelstrom for both pvp and pve (the same maelstrom in fact). My ammo is faction/standard short range + barrage. For pve I just load the optimal damage type (ie standard fusion against angels/minmatar) with barrage available for any npc's that hang out at 50km. For pvp, I carry faction fusion, faction PP and barrage. On rare occasion I'll bring EMP for pvp if I know I'm going to be fighting lots of shield tankers. For a mission, I may carry 4000 fusion +1500 barrage in cargo. So short ranged gets used more, but barrage gets used up pretty quickly too. It's maybe a 2-1 split. For pvp it's about the same but I pack more cap booster charges and carry less ammo as a result. So for pvp I'll carry 1000 barrage, 1000 fusion, 100 PP in cargo and PP loaded in the guns (960 rounds). Those aren't the exact numbers, the ship can hold a little more but that gives you a rough idea. Thus far you shall read, but no further; for this is my sig. |

What i meant by the amarr ammo comment is people generally use Scorch on pulses for range or multifrequency. Thats pretty much the consensus from what i've been reading. However with projectile lots of different ammo works in different situations so I was unsure.
Thanks Rothgar that was what i was looking for some in depth knowledge of what a matari pilot carries.
P.S that haldrin forsworn is me but i misclicked so my unused alt got used instead kinda annoying :P ------------------------------

If you want to know what to trade just look at the npcs in this zone. For example in amarr space where there's a lot of sansha/blood raiders so focus on EMP.
