Edited by: Eternum Praetorian on 11/08/2010 02:03:44 So one day I log onto EVE, and someone is going on about how a Thanatos sucks. Thinking he was a noob I corrected him, being I seem to recall Thanatos's having chrome wheels and packing Mac 10's. Suddenly something happened and now people are telling me about how L33T the Nidhoggur is and it is like I have logged into bizarro land.
So, if you would be so kind, here in this thread please detail what exactly changed that made this happen. And while you are at it list Carrier's and Dred's in order of most desirable to be flying atm (and why)
I seem to have fallen out of the loop, and for all I know Revelations suck now
Commence . . .
P.S.
Or you can just respond with "If you don't know you shouldn't be in one" that answer is also accepted.

Amarr caps still dominate pvp and the thanny is still the superior plexing carrier.

Not much has changed with Dreads. Carriers however have seen a decline in combat use with the addition of the Titan Deathray and Supercarriers.
The way I see it:
Capitals(Carriers and Dreads) in a nutshell:
PvP: Amarr>Gallente>Minmatar>Caldari PvS(Player vs. Structures): Minmatar>Caldari>Amarr>Gallente PvE: Gallente>Amarr>Caldari>Minmatar
So going by points, you get this picture overall(If you plan on doing all of the above): 1. Amarr (9 pts) 2. Gallente (8 pts) 3. Minmatar (7 pts) 4. Caldari (6 pts)
As you can see it's pretty close.

Nice troll, I'll bite. None of them suck, all of them have their strengths and weaknesses. The thanny is a great pve and gank carrier. Yes, I said gank carrier. Typically it should have full tackle. I know that's heresy for you null sec guys, but grow up. A carrier is just a big neut/RR domi. Thus far you shall read, but no further; for this is my sig. |

Oh come on, the only reason you'd ever want to fly a Nidhoggur is if you're hoping to maximize repping power. IMO, anyone rating it higher than an Archon is bat**** insane.

The Thanny is absolutely, hands down, the worst Carrier for PvP.
162 more DPS (of crappy fighter DPS I might add) between a carrier 4/fighters 4 pilot is not quite worth 20% resist or 20% rep power. *** Currently Playing: Trolls from Outer Space Current Equipment: VISAcard chain mail, +2 Amulet of Epic Whine, Self Banstick +2 WTB: +666 E-peen killboard stats |

Normally i think Torpir is right on except this seems way out of whack to me.
Caldari Dread in pvp is 2nd IMO because range and DPS/Tank huge DPS and huge Tank, the missle lag isnt as bad actually now that Lag effects fleet fights, plus I have seen tons of close fights now. All you do with Caldari Dread is target 2nd target right away, but as far as dreads go they are on there own and they cant get reps while in siege so the Armor bonus is null.
PVS Cald can be number 1 since it can swapp ammo types and with torps has huge Dmg and doesnt like Gal have a 19km optimal. so with 6500 DPS and a way bigger tank its the best IMO esp since missle lag is nullified.
Carrier is by far won by Archon, and Niddy close second when using pantheon tank but I also like Cald since it is a great tool to rep pos`s which sucks if you are pilot but great if you own it.
All in all Cald Dread is very underated because its change of DMG vs Range vs Dmg vs Slotlayout is great.

Or must also support shield tankers. Or actually use it in small engagement where the better lock time and superior rep can save the day.
Not even counting the number of armor tankers that were saved by a capital shield transporter keeping them alive long enough for the LOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNGGG Capital Armor RR cycle to kick in.

Yeah because 2.5 seconds per cycle in triage is too long to wait

Is this the superior rep before or after you realize that the Archon actually has better capacitor (for superior repping) and enough grid to fit remote reps?

Actually, Chimera is worse simply due to the fact that fleets focusing on either armor or shield are way more effective then fleets using both, and since armor is way more common then shield, that should be armor, which Chimeras don't get a range bonus for.

If you must also support shield tankers, you are doing it wrong.

With a Damnation giving bonuses and with triage bonus, that "LOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNGGG" cycle is 1.85 seconds. Overheat for 1.65.
Basically, the only thing you'd want a non-Archon carrier for in PVP is POS repping.

Archon definitely got superior cap and is much better at getting shot. But in situations where you use the carrier as an equalizer to engage a capless bigger gang the carrier is unlikely to be shot, or it it is your own gang is either dead, in which case you'd die in any carrier, or slaughtering the opposition. So in this scenario the carrier own tank isn't that relevant.
I like how you don't address the shield transfer issue.

When your bait is in hull as you land, it IS very long. And I wasn't speaking of a triage situation. Archon clearly being the best triage if you can do without shield.

Honestly you're talking about a *SUPER* niche use of a Nidhoggur - and even then I'm not convinced that you will save him with your one cap shield transporter. Honestly, the Nidhoggur is just a pile of **** all the way around unless the only thing that's important is repping a supercap or tower. Get an Archon. Move on.
