This is a notice for all pilots that have ever lost their ship to a highsec "Ninja" or "Salvage Stealer" and have had that person extend agro beyond the 15 minute timer by shooting a wreck.
The GM's have deemed that this is not an supported game mechanic and have reimbursed a player's ship that was recently killed using this unintended mechanic. If you have lost a ship after the initial 15 minute timer you can now file a petition and get your ship back!
Of course CCP is not currently taking action against people that due this, even though it has been confirmed by a Senior GM that this not action supported by CCP.

The trick here is that the person comes into your mission and loots from your wreck, this flags them as being a bad guy to you, you can then shoot at them if you chose. When you shoot at them you are given a 15 minute aggression timer where you can both fire at each other without Concord.
If you fire at them and they run away and you dock they have the ability to extend that timer by shooting at the wrecks/cans in space that are flagged to you so that the 15 minute timer can be extended up to 2 hours.
Highsec mission greifers have always stated that this is a game mechanic and working as intended and have NEVER been corrected by CCP. The Senior GM basically said that it is an exploit, they know about it, it can be reimbursed, they just don't care about it and will not punish anyone doing it. Consdering how long this has been around you also get the feelign that they are not going to fix it any time soon either.

Well then don't be a dumbass and let the ninjas have your salvage/loot!
You would have nothing to worry about if you didn't agress them. Most ninjas want you to shoot at them so they can pop your shiny expensive faction fit carebear crybaby ship. If highsec is to hardcore for you then perhaps another game might be more suited for you.

Working As Intended
firing on any item in space owned by a player will reset the aggression timer.
There are currently 3 mechanics set in place that support this.
1. Your aggression timer resets when someone aggresses anything you own in space. 2. You can ABANDON wrecks/cans so people cannot extend aggro. 3. YOU GET A BIG ****ING WARNING BOX EVERY TIME YOU TRY TO UNDOCK WHILE AGGRESSED, YOU STUPID ****S.

Nope, confirmed by a Senior GM, not working as intended. I cannot past it in because we are not allowed too since it was recieved through a petition.

I once shoot a ninja in my pimped out carebear Nightmare.
I was pretty much done for the night as I messed up the spawns of a blood raider blockade and was gonna let it reload the next day.
Stayed logged in and didn't undock for over an hour. They must have had fun popping wrecks for no reason.
I'm glad I didn't undock cause I didn't know about the extending aggro exploit.
Just like anything else ccp doesn't know or is too lazy to fix cause they're buzy didn't beer.
They really hate reimbursing players cause the game they made is bugged. You know the logs show nothing. But, an exploit due to bugged game mechanics is bad. --

I had something like this happen to me about two years ago. However I didn't shoot the ninja, he flipped my mission loot. So I took it back docked at the station waited like 16-17 minutes undocked and got shot at.
My ship was reimbursed in about a week. ______________________________

1. If it hasn't been posted by a CCP Whatshisname on this message board, it isn't true. 2. You have a post by some MR on his blog saying its an exploit, I have a post by a ninja on his blog saying its not. That evens it out.
3. There are THREE mechanics set in place to warn you that there's someone out there in space that can kill you.

Notice my post says "are", not "were"?
I'm not questioning what happened to you two years ago, or whether or not aggro mechanics were flawed as to validate your reimbursement or not.
I'm saying that the CNR pilot, and anyone else, who dies to a ninja due to the above mechanics, should not be reimbursed.
If you go read the C&P post, you'll see I personally ran a test on the aggro mechanics. Not only are there 3 mechanics in place to save idiots from dying if they're dumb enough to shoot at a ninja and get away once... but if you just dock up and log off for >15mins, the ninja CAN NOT refresh aggression by shooting wrecks/cans. ♥

You know, EVE is a bit funny like that. When talking about bugs those two words can be used interchangeably most of the time. Disregard that my witty commentary made more sense in my head, regardless... My point was there are still a lot of bugs, from what I understand, that have persisted for a very long time.
I of course, have not had to pleasure of confirming that the inaccurate display of the aggression timer bug still exists, however, I cannot remember them fixing it, hence my mentioning it. ______________________________

Awesome Possum you really need to stop being so butthurt. People get their ships reimbursed if this mechanic is found to have been used. You get to keep your loot from the kill, you also get to keep your 'lol I ransom u' money. The simple fact is this is something CCP can't be arsed to fix yet tolerate the use of.
If you make enough noise about it you are going to have this mechanic taken away from you.
I really don't care if you don't believe this or not and I won't 'proof or STFU'.
This is simply the way it is. You either accept it, or you are dumb.

AP, while I appreciate your wanting to stand up for what you think is a valid game mechanic, the fact is that it simply is not the case, CCP doesn't care. It is reimbursable as has been proven.
Given that the player got his CNR back that means the Ninja was using an exploit to extend the agro and should be warned, then banned if caught doing it again. You cannot have it both ways. Either it is an exploit or it is not. The fact that the MR got his ship back from a GM proves that it is an exploit, CCP just doesn't care.

Nah, I enjoy being right too much to stop having my fun. And I don't care if they "take away" anything, as long as they are clear on the rules of the game.
Its idiots like the above that consistently misunderstand how these mechanics work that keep people going "Whoa! it shouldn't have done that! the forums said so! exploit!"
As was pointed out by MonteCarlo, these aggression mechanics (if not understood correctly) hurt cap pilots more than some moron carebear.

AP couldn't be more right. If you want a safe game to play that has mechanics written so you can't be tricked and everyone plays fair and the teacher puts the bullies into the corner when you taddle play WoW or re-visit the first grade playground. You can run quests on most servers all day without so much as imagining a griefing incident.
If you're a big boy now and can deal with complicated mechanics that make it possible to trick other players, eve is a good game to try out.
AP did what all of you other self-righteous bigots wouldn't, he TESTED the actual mechanics and posted his results, he RESEARCHED ACTUAL dev commentary, and at least in regards to this topic, he knows his patches.
Now ask yourself again why this game mechanic that's 'supposedly' broken bothers the rest of you so much.
Is it because it's truly an exploit? Or because you are so used to games that cater to butt-hurt players that have to be tootled along, you can't deal with something that requires actual thought?
1. THERE ARE NO DEV COMMENTS THAT EXPOSE THIS AS AN EXPLOIT. No matter how much an ALT screams that there are he has no proof. Put up or shut up.
2. AP actually went out and verified the mechanics and EVEN came up with a solution to a griefing ninja. There are SEVERAL easy ways to avoid getting goaded into an unwanted fight. But you have to be smarter than a chinese isk farmer.
3. If YOU had researched and delt with the problem yourself you'd find you'd be much better at playing Eve in general. Let alone living life. In Eve reading patch-notes is a good start. From there actually THINKING about tough problems you face might be a reasonable solution. Unfortunately, with the exception of AP, it seems there are very few of you here that have ever done that. Like many players you just gloss over the painfully obvious details and cry H@X. You've likely never logged onto sisi. And you'd never try something for the sake of learning about it even it would save countless ships.
That's the real problem here.
does it strike anyone that theres a lot of crying ninja's in this thread?
if that comment was posted the other way around and it was a mision runner, there would be about a page of sarcastic responses about tears

I see no crying ? I see 2 oppinions of whom one is clearly defeating all logic, and spawned the OP, while the rest could even be classified as trying to protect the poor MR's ass from not getting a ship back from CCP after loosing it to this 'clearly not intended, yet itterated upon and fixed' feature.
I wish I had a 'look @' option on the petition system .. should be a good source of comedy. ========================== Nothing is true, everything is permitted. ========================== |
