Edited by: Sassums on 14/08/2010 18:21:48 I started playing Eve maybe before Christmas, and I took a LOA in about March, and of course I come back and the whole game has changed again, it looks like another Expansion or patch was released :)
I'm just looking for some help on getting started again, because I am still just as lost as I was.
I have a character that I consider my Miner, or Industrial I think is what they call it in Eve, I am in a Hulk and really haven't the slightest clue what I should be training for. If I remember correctly, I used a remap and have all the attributes set for Memory/Intelligence, and I maybe have one left.
I have a second character that I wanted to be a combat type character, as well as I was eventually going to train him up to pilot the Orca to transport for the Industrial. I have him also set with real high Memory/Intelligence, however the other attributes are low, he also has one remap left. I have most of the mechanic skills trained with him, but I am not sure what else to train before remapping back to train the weapon skills. I keep getting destroyed in every mission and I have no idea why. Is there like a way to post each characters skill sheet on the forums here to give a better idea as to what I have trained so I can get a little help? :)
Also each character has between 2.2 and 2.8million SP in the Learning area and both characters are Gallente.
Thanks.

With the combat char, remap for a long term combat goal like marauders, t3, or carriers perhaps. Sitting in the orca don't require a remap. My two chars are exactly this. Main was a marauder missioner ( then my second daughter came along) so he became a smoking orca pilot and other char is in the hulk.
Mind you, I have lots more sp but the goal was similar. Pull my finger. |

I am kind of confused on what I should be training for my Hulk...I have Metallurgy being trained because I believe I need it for the crystals that are used in the mining lasers? What does the "mining upgrade" skill do for me? Also, which mining turret should I be using? A strip miner? Normal mining laser? I couldn't figured out the difference between the modulated strip mining laser 2, and the standard strip miner laser.
Also, I am at a total loss as to what I should be training on Cokster, who is the combat character. Any help would be appreciated.

Ok bro, let's see if we can get your straightened out a bit here. While I haven't read it in awhile and it may be slightly out of date at this point, Halada's Mining Guide should answer all your mining questions.
What level missions are you trying to run with that character? His skills are all over the place so doing anything other than 1's would be difficult honestly. What is your goal for him? And why did you train energy grid upgrades 5 so early? Also post your ship/fit that keeps getting killed.

I'll read over that guide, thanks for the link!
And I am really not sure, I wasn't sure what to train to begin with, so I started working on the Learning stuff. Then I started training shield skills, but was then told Gallente is more of an armor tank type race, so I switched. So now I am really confused on what to train, maybe I need to remap and start training all my weapon skills?
How do I post the fit for my ship? Is there a site like the one that listed all my characters skills?

Halada's guide will help you heaps with a mining career.
The hulk is a shield tanker, so you haven't wasted those skills. Gallente are primarily an armor tanking race, but I often fly a Gallente force recon or a Gallente HAC (tech 2 cruisers) with a shield tank (not always, sometimes I use an armor tank). It's not always cut and dried as to what race uses a particular tank.
For the hulk, you'll primarily need astrogeology, mining barge and exhumers, etc.
Mining upgrades will allow you to fit some modules to improve your yield per cycle.
Strip miners will only fit on dedicated mining ships (barges and exhumers). If you can't fly those, then mining lasers are your only choice (and possibly some mining drones as well). Again, Halada's guide will answer in far more detail.

Thanks...
Sassums has already trained up and is currently flying a Hulk, but I am not sure what I should fit it. Strip Lasers? Deep Core lasers? /confused.
Cokster is the combat character, and I also want him to be the transport character, which I hope to train him to fly an Orca soon.

Until you can fit the T2 mining crystals (requires the ore processing skill for the relevant ore at level 4), you're better off with the T1 strip miners. You can fit mining laser upgrades (MLUs) in one or both of the low slots - depending on skills, training up mining upgrades will help. Fit a buffer tank in the mids - shield extender and some shield resists. The highs should be all strip miners.

Well I am confused on what laser actually mines the quickest, there are so many to pick from, and the mining guide was semi confusing....lol

The T1 strips have a base yield of 540, while the T2 strips have a base yield of 360. Meaning that the T1 strips are better when neither has crystals fitted. T2 strips with T1 crystals give a modest increase over T1 strips. T2 strips with T2 crystals give a bigger increase.
Until you have the skills for crystals, you're better off with T1 strips, as soon as you can use crystals, move to T2 strip miners.

I believe it's still level 4 of the relevant ore processing skill, but my knowledge on that is a bit dated (sold my Hulk 18 months ago).
Do a show info on the T2 crystals in the market screen to confirm. ______________________ Agony Unleashed Home of the PvP University |

From the looks of it you have quite an odd way of order for the skills which is "all to V or bust", An approach which is all fine if you plan on selling character in training for good ISK but no so much if you want to play with the said character. So fist of all you should get your self EVEMon and start looking what you get by training skills to IV before you train them to V. All to V approach is seldom useful for young pilots with less then 20mil SPs (20mil SPs cover pretty much most/all module skills at IV par capital modules of c.) The way I prefer to do my skill training is to have plan in EVEMon and respec accordingly to see if I save any time (I usually don't unless it's a 300day plan) and then I swap the skills around the queue to see which one I'd like to get trained first. After that I usually forgot the plan and just train what ever strikes my fancy and I've followed this philosophy up until now that only things ahead of me in Gallente line up are capitals (I wanted to specialise in one race from the beginning and just because hybrids suddenly suck wont sway me from my course).

Thanks I have Evemon Downloaded and have really used it for "Sassums" however I wasn't really sure what the heck I was doing with Cokster, I am trying to train anything that is Intel/Mem because that is what I have mapped, I have 1 remap left....since I have it set this way, it makes no sense to train anything that is Willpower/Perception, which would be all my guns and missiles, so I am mainly looking for defense. OR I don't know really. I am so lost. Not sure what the best way to train him would be. I am just tired of getting killed all the time.

Curious, how you got Energy Management trained to V, but you did not train Energy Systems operation at all.

Are they better than a standard strip miner for mining other items?

The MDCSM II (250m3) is better for merc, the MSM II (360 m3) is better for all other ores and can not mine merc.

Great I just spent all that money on the MDCSM II and the cheaper MSM II are better for everything else? Do you have any number crunches so I can see how much better they are?
Also is there anything I can train to reduce the CPU required for the mining lasers? As well as something I can train to increase cap and cap recharge?

Edited by: Che Biko on 01/09/2010 13:01:29 I already gave you the numbers, the yield per cycle in m3, there's not much crunch to it.
For capacitor, you can train Energy Management for increased capacity, and Energy Systems Operation for faster recharge. As far as I know there's no skill that reduces cap use for mining lasers, but there is one for mining upgrades. There are also skills that reduce cap use for other types of modules in the Engineering catagory.
