No it's not. OS X is based on FreeBSD/Mach, and is UNIX certified. Linux is a Unix-like OS. OS X is not based on Linux in any way whatsoever, nor is the reverse true.
On topic: Yay, Mac crash fixes! Most of the crashed I've had have been when jumping to a new system... Not the most ideal time.

It looks like they have been attempting to address lag and have discovered a number of performance issues with the client.
True, this doesn't appear to fix the major issue of fleet induced lag.
However, this does appear to be a step in the right direction.
Which would you prefer: this or a patch that fixes game mechanic balancing?
Also... Troll, I am disappoint.

Just curious to see there is nothing adressing a rather annoying issue, that of Remote Repping in Faction Warfare.
Currently any FW player that reps a blinky loses more standing to the faction e.g Gallente, Minmatar - than if they shot a pilot in the militia.
Bi-polar Bears have petitioned this issue already and been told it's not correctly coded so where is the fix CCP?

You're updating Python from 2.5 to 2.7? You are delusional if you think this will go smoothly and be completed in 2.5 hours. It's not realistic to expect this can be done in less than 12 hours, and estimating 2.5 hours is indicative of incompetence at best, and outright lying at worst.
This is a huge step as any Python nerd will tell you. The changes made from Python 2.5 to 2.7 are significant; it is not merely a version bump with a few changes here and there.
Come back to this post in 48 hours and see how I predict the future: I told you so. Whoever is responsible for the 2.5 hour downtime estimate should be fired.

lolwut? Ok, I'll admit I know nothing of the difference between Python 2.5 and 2.7, but isn't it like deploying any other patch? The changes have been made, and they simply need to be applied (meaning any code that wouldn't have worked has been updated already). I don't get why that would take 2 days...

2.7 has probably been running on SiSi for a few weeks, so the only real concerns would be related to subtle bugs caused by load and usage patterns of TQ. These aren't generally 48 hour downtime kind of issues though, and if TQ won't start up or something they can simply revert until they figure out what to do.
That's why you see the update to Python in a deployment that includes few real changes.

More! More bugs, and the server will starting minimum UTC 16:30 not at 13:30. :D
And CCP do you tried the mass tests when many bubbles on the gate ? :D
Just try it, and see the differences. Instantly stucked weapons if fighters in the battle using bubbles, empty weapons in grouped weapon systems, when trying someone reload them, so need ungroup and load the empty weapons, when want to shot again, buged killmails (bad damage summarize), because server don't get datas from laggy fight.

LAG... CCP's fault? Dearest Grasshoppers, Lag is not something CCP is responsible for. Are they responsible for your location? How about your internet connection and ISP's throttling of your bandwidth? Or maybe you think CCP can control your neighbor who is tapped into your unprotected WiFi as they download from Lime [trojan, worm, malware] Wire? hmmmm, maybe CCP can stop your neighbors, for those of you with cable, from downloading movies or watching Huluu which if you didn't know slows you down? Ever play EVE on a T1 line? ho ho ho. no lag there. No my dear Grasshoppers, Lag is not CCP.. your Lag is you. But, please feel free to complain, moan, whine and stomp your feet or scream at your monitor [we know many of you do] [and what an odd thing to do] your lag is yours, wear it well. |

There will be a DevBlog about that topic to enlighten you all what we have been up to this summer. CCP Atlas was a busy man making your EVE experience smoother. In short: character services are services that don't need to be handled by the sol/location-nodes. So i.e when you browse the certificates the client will get this info from a character node without adding load to the node running the solar system. There are various other kinds of nodes that fir this patterns (market, PI, corp services ...). More details will come with the dev blog.

That sort of is on the spot. The changes have been lingering on Sisi for a while now. If the server doesn't start-up we can simply use the old version and have it up again on this.

Word processing? This is 2010. People dont process words anymore. Unless they have to use microsoft word. Then the processing is quite intensive I expect. I have to go work on my film editing now. On my paperweight.

I keep getting the "incompatible (protocol)" error come up yet according to the patch program, I am running the most up to date version (167...something or other)
Why? Why wont you let me back in EVE? Have I upset you in some way and you are now exacting your revenge upon me?
Or is something just totally screwed up here?

On that note, when CCP have extended downtime for new patch can they please *not* list the old incompatible version as 'current version' ?!
I'm sure CCP can check their logs and see how many noobs [mistakenly] download what they think is the latest (save bandwidth for when the real version is released)

Explaining those people that ccp is living in another global timeline then where they are should help also. for example ,i am dutch 13:30 ccptime means 15:30 dutch time

CCP quote UTC. World timezones have not changed recently so regulars should soon work that out. CCP could make times display based on your timezone prefs, but that wouldn't help schedule things with corp buddies in Evemail etc...
I was referring to an incorrect listing, rather than misunderstood statement, but anyway ...

Just add the standard UTC time to your computer clock (yes, you can set more than one clock, at least since Vista I think)... ;)
edit: Patch is online...

Reading that blog I could assume the patch notes are incomplete yet again?!?
How comes the bug tracker ID #98468 "Mac: Mail Cache Error" of mine didn't get updated from "Attached to a defect" to "Fixed in Planetary Interaction 1.0.4" or so for now?
You are seriously lacking QA when it comes to communication.
And it's pretty obvious bug hunter volunteers with limited tools as well as CSM elected by majorities are part of your communication problem (Why should Windows users care much about Macintosh problems?), not its solution.
QA for technical stuff and QA for communication should be the responsibility of different people. Tanis might be an excellent technical QA lead, but his inability to excuse on behalf of CCP (e.g. "sorry it took so long for the mail cache nerf to get fixed") and his obvious belief in "there's a working fix so people shall shut up and I can be proud" might not serve CCP best.
You still don't seem to keep proper track of where information sinks do build up / exist, nor are you pointing users to a single source of well organized and updated information which is easily accessible. Hiding stuff somewhere across blogs, forums and wikis just is not good enough. Appoint some extra person to be responsible for supervising chains of communication is what I do suggest.
Other than that: Good to hear about a patch again. I, Mac user, wonder if it'll be the best EVE patch my client ever had. Sounds promising.... and grats to the folks convincing management a good hardware testbed is something worth investing in!
