I understand that the different fighters have different primary damage types, and that this lends the different racial types to be best against certain rats. Apart from this, however, I seem to recall reading that the different fighters had different AI characteristics which made some of them less useful for PvE (like slowboating all the way to rats instead of MWD'ing). Is there any truth to my memory, and if so, what considerations should I take, if any, besides the damage types when choosing which type of fighters to use in a carrier I plan to run anomalies in?

Judging by the lack of responses, let me rephrase the question.
I'm planning on using a carrier to rat anomalies. The local rats are serpentis. Is there any reason I should NOT use Caldari fighters against these rats?

Check their stats. I believe you'll find that Caldari fighters have the lowest tracking ability of the bunch and the second lowest speed. The Gallente ones (I think) have the lowest speed but the highest damage output.
Not sure about AI characteristics though. As far as I know, they behave just like normal drones except that they can follow a target anywhere in system without the carrier actually being there. _______________________

I'm pretty sure that anything but Dragonflies is fine. A full load of racial-damage-type-correct Firbolgs will do you.
Also, locator agent activated -- Killed me? Read about it in my blog! Northern Lights: Solo PVP in EVE Online

Bwahah mr. big piwate.
Why don't you just fly to 0.0 and you'll see the in every other system there's a carrier ratting.
That's the way things are done down here and even if you lose one once in a while you still on top ISK wise. Making 80 million/hour will get you your investment back.......real quick.

Use firbolgs :) even though on paper the dragonflys would do slightly higher dps... WHEN THEY GET IN RANGE... :P
Dragonflys cant even chase down the rats fast enough, they slowboat out of range of their firing... unlike the firbolgs, which have much less optimal range, (so they microwarp from smaller distance)
Hope that helped you

Yes, thanks for the responses everyone. I was contemplating whether the increased mobility and tracking of firbolgs might offset their slightly lower DPS, and, based on the responses, I think it's worth it for me to plan on using firbolgs instead of dragonflys.
Thanks again :)
Now that that's settled, I've come up with one last and probably stupid question.
Assigning fighters to still uses bandwidth on the carrier, right?

Umm... yeah... fail troll is fail. Did you bother even looking at what corp/alliance he's in, they hold Sov space in the north, and chances are he rats in a carrier himself (not that it's a bad thing).

For the record, Carrier ratting is awesome.
I use a mix of Minnie/Gallente fighters. Minnie are fast as hell, Gallente bring the pain.

Carrier ratting is fine as long as you have an alt to assign drones. You can certainly assign drones before you enter inside a POS but what about after you have entered inside the force field ?
